It went that way because Ruth wanted out of the show, because other opportunities were arising for her, no doubt because of her stellar work as Alison. It's a pity because Alison's story was one that had me longing for some real epiphany for her and a place where she could have risen above her grief and torment. The show took a very unapologetic and unflinching deep dive into the sometimes very grim realm of human tragedy, sorrow, pain and regret. These were very real people in the sense that NONE of them appeared flat and 2-dimensional.
The affair lost momentum starting season 3 , only 1 & 2 were up to the point . The author manipulated the events and drifted away from the sweet simple story , good for Ruth that she left the show , she is brilliant in disturbed women roles .

Others did way far better but she got the award she was causing issues complaining about equal pay they want her mouth shut plus she had already signed a new deal to make a movie while she was in Affair but she was not honest to the public that she left because of a new offer but she said because of unequal pay. Integrity matters.
@@almazabrahalol she left because of a toxic work environment regarding gratuitous sex scenes and problems with the show runner and character development. It’s very well documented. She made a comment about pay disparity which Dominic West agreed with, he literally came out and stated he didn’t understand why she wasn’t getting paid equal to him or more. Hardly comes off as a snob, Ruth has spoken recently about not loving the Hollywood industry because it’s full of hypocrisy which it is. These awards have always been that way.
She is a great actress.
Watch her in Luther, she is spellbinding.
Incredible actress. Well deserved. The affair is seriously not as interesting with her no longer in it, however, a fantastic drama and truly gripping.
She is great actress and person. I hope she will get this award more than once. I adore her
Should win for Alice Morgan, C'mon
TheJunmengo She scared the crap out of me on Luther. She played that character.
Tatiana Maslany?
Binge watching The Affair, on season 4, episode 8. OMG...sooo sad

Season 3 was definitely the worst season, but the show got its groove back in season 4, in my opinion.
Season five was the worst
