Many thanks for this; I have had a gimble for 6 years and do my best to control my walking, but this is the first time I have seen the roll-step and I look forward to trying it out! 😀
Masterful! Oh and those super slow-mo clips of you changing the Deadbamd settings was like the visual equivalent of “Repeat after me…Step #1 is…blah blah blah”. 🤣🙃🤣
Hi Matt, just checking in on this - every other video I've seen on this explains the exact opposite with deadband settings - the higher the deadband, the more the gimbal will ignore small movements, and thus the smoother the footage will be. Have I misunderstood what you're saying?
True, the HIGHER the deadband, the more "space" the gimbal gives you before it actually moves in response to your movements. This guy has it backwards :(
I have a mid size camera, it weighs 3.10kg and I bought a Glidecam HD4000 and it’s sooo heavy when all set up!! I workout 5 days a week and still struggle with it! I know I need a new/up to date camera but surely it must still be possible to do with a larger camera?
Hey, I think you have the deadband setting the wrong way around. High means it gives a higher deadband, the band in which the movement is dead. It should be set to high to not react to small movements!
Hi Matt, thanks for the tip, I have a consultation, I own a GH6, my dilemma if recording in CFexpress or in an external source such a NinjV+, I would like to shoot through a gimbal, which would be a better idea?
I don't understand why no company has developed a gimbal with a shock-absorbing handle. Really wouldn't need to be electronic. Just have the ability to tighten and loosen the spring(s) to adjust for weight.
Here is the biggest tip NOBODY is telling you: get a hoverboard. Yes they are dirt cheap on the 2nd hand market. Remember when they use to be a craze? Well you can pick them up for around $50 used. Use this for your smooth shots. 😎
Hope these tips get you buttery 🧈 smooth gimbal footage!
P.S. This video was colored with my presets, get them here: whoismatt.com/luts
you won't believe how helpful this was! thanks a lot
Love this quick tip video, Matt. You make even things like gimbal walking fun to watch. Good info and very helpful!
Im using Moza Aircross 2 and not found Deadband setting 😔

Wow. I didn't know about Dead Band. I am going to try this!
Masterful!

That's true, it should be set to "high" instead of "low"

Love the video! Thank you so much!
Is it more convenient to use sony cameras with Active Shoot on or off on gimbal?
I have an issue when I ninja walk I still get left and right sway. What would you advise?
Amazing content!
Thanks for the tips! much appreciated
My new Zhiyun gimbal 2 has too much horizontal movement. What to do?
Don't look for deadband on a Hohem M2. Not there.
Great video ❤️
yess the marching band roll step!
You know! 😂
Question, if you tilt the gimbal forward shouldn’t the motors now work on the vertical movements.
nope, only gimbals w/ vertical stability ⬆️⬇️ most gimbals are only 3axis not 4 axis . ..
Great tips!! By chance do you know if there is a specific “deadband” sensitivity setting on DJI’s OM 4 smartphone gimbal?
awesome tips
Thank you

I like the thumbnail 👌😄

The best
I did play a flute in a few marching bands. I should be good at this. 😂
😂😂
Can anyone recommend an affordable gimbal that can take the weight of a heavy zoom lense like the Sigman24-70mm?
Ronin S
Living dangerously with 5% battery on the gimbal. Balls of steel Matt! 🤣
Got a good chuckle because I'm married to a Matt Johnson 😉
a trinity-like set-up is the best way to get the smoothest footage without using a technocrane. ;)
Ohh i am changing my sensitivity right away 🙏. This video goes to private useful gimbal videos. 💪
Awesome!
Ninja walk!!!
Hi Matt, thanks for the tip, I have a consultation, I own a GH6, my dilemma if recording in CFexpress or in an external source such a NinjV+, I would like to shoot through a gimbal, which would be a better idea?
I would record internally

You mean a stedicam arm? ;)

Charge your gibal its on 5% 😂 thanks for this helpful video
😂😂
didnt help at all, might be me lmao
🤣🤣
Another tip: Make sure your camera/lens’s auto-stabilization is off.
Thought the whole point of a gimbal was for footage to be smooth. Now you gotta walk in slow motion lol so pointless
