Malvern Hills Walk: Hiking 10 Hills in 1 Day

- This hike over the Malvern Hills, dubbed the 'spine', was so unique. A rollercoaster line of Hills that let us see over the three English counties of Worcestershire, Herefordshire and Gloucestershire. Reputed to be some of the best views in Britain. We bagged 10 incredible hills in one 10 mile walk, brilliant day and so worth the effort.
We started from a good sized, free, lay-by close to Little Malvern (WR14 4JN). Immediately we were going uphill towards Black Hill, unsurprisingly as all the land around the 'spine' is very low laying. We then started on the linear walk to the next peaks, Pinnacle Hill, Jubilee Hill, Perseverance Hill, Summer Hill, Worcestershire Beacon (highest point in the Malverns), Sugarloaf Hill, North Hill, Table Hill and End Hill. The sights we really beautiful, it felt like we could see the whole of England.
This is a historically and culturally important area. Caratacus, the ancient British chieftain, made a last stand against the Roman invasion here at the British Camp. The Hills beauty and history led the famous English composer Edward Elgar to write the Cello Concerto and is the inspiration for Tolkien's White Mountains of Gondor featured in The Lord of The Rings universe.

I always doff my cap to the Malverns on my journeys south to Devon and Cornwall etc. They do look a splendid ridge, rising up out of the lowlands. I knew they were Pre Cambrian but had not considered that that would put them as England's oldest rocks.....good fact that 😎. I shall trot that out sometime to impress my family and friends....😀👍.
Nice to see the harebells too, deffo one of my favourite wild-flowers.
The literary and composer-y references I liked too. There is something about walking in the footsteps of poets, authors, composers, etc. It adds another dimension to it all.

10 hills in 10 miles and with a view of historic places and a beautiful landscape - can it be better than that for a day trip? I do not think so; and as you have a lot of presence and charm onscreen it makes watching fun and enjoyable (and helps me to forget the fog and snow outside in my place today:) The little detail about Elgar I did not know; so I will have to listen that music and hear how he translated the landscape into music! Anyway; stay safe on your hikes and look abroad for new places to explore:)

The Malverns are beautiful. I’ve only done half of the hills on this range. Certainly a tough walk with all the elevation! Great video. You’ve captured it’s essence. ☺️

Free is a great price! End Hill is a great name for the last hill on the range! What a lovely set of hill well looked after by the local people. That sign was very spiffy. 10 hills in one day. That’s some impressive going Ceri and Kat. Summer hill seemed a very appropriate name as the weather looked glorious. Tea and scones. Quintessentially British 🙂. Some fab views on this one. Looked a lot higher than the 425 metres. Quite spectacular really. Great watch as always 🙂💚👍

Yes Guys! One of our favourite areas, used to go there all the time when we went to uni at Worcester. We've never done end to end yet, but we will one day!
Nearby the British Camp is a small cave known as the giants cave, where a giant was supposed to live!

Doesn't matter how short the hill is so much as how much prominence it has over the surrounds. Looks like you had plenty of prominence for those hills. Worcestershire is so much fun to say, isn't it? We live near places called Worcester and Gloucester south of us in Massachusetts, and it's incredibly amusing listening to people not from New England try to pronounce them... Doesn't work on you English folk though. You guys all know how to say it. 😕

10 hills is impressive. Curious as to if you tracked your total elevation gain for the day. Did you break 1000m of climbing?

I always love walking along ridges. So nice to have views on both sides. This is full-on ridge walking, and I can see why some claim it has the best views in England, especially as they change along the whole walk! Interesting geology and history, too. Wonderful video!

Came over from RVA Hiker Girl who gave you a shout out. I enjoy your style. I also enjoy British history (I'm a professed Time Team addict) plus I lived in England for 4 years, probably before you were born judging by your apparent youth. Your video reminded me of a little British geography. Apparently in Scotland there's a rocky area on the west coast made up of North American rocks from when the two continents bumped.

@@TeaInValhalla well as you mentioned it… 🤪 Hiked up Corn Du and pitched the tent on Pen y fan last night. Weather turned very quickly and was in the wind & clag all eve. forecast changed and the stronger winds came in the night, earlier than forecast ( should have been this eve). Right on the edge of my comfort zone TBH. Packed all away with my head torch and was on my way back down at 6am this morning in the dark. Back home now and all is well in the Womble world. Phew !

As a teenager I walked those hills many times but never realised how high they were. There is a really lovely walk over the British Camp, my favourite spot, and down into the valley past a folly. Very nice to see those peaks again that are unchanged. The cafe at the top of the beacon has gone, which is a shame, and that was a great place to recover when it was cold.

10 hills in 10 miles, I feel my knees aching 😂 but looks absolutely amazing and I can see why it is said to have some of the best views around. Wonderful vlog there as always and learning a lot about the background of these hills, and how some inspired the image of Gondor! (Big lotr fan here)
