      I agree. Something that large should not have just have standard weapons. Planetary phaser arrays for a start, like the one shown fired by DS9 when it destroyed a bird of prey in one shot. It HAS to be more powerful than anything the Sovereign class is carrying. Plus something akin to Riker's deflector beam weapon he used on the Borg ship in Best of Both Worlds P2, but designed specifically for the ship, and finally a Phaser Lance or two. Plus, a whole lot of quantum and photon torpedo launchers.

    2:26 in my setting I use ships like this as forward operating bases, think about it it takes a fair bit of time to build a station and their normally defenceless while been built so how do you get around that? You have a mobile station that’s main job is to set up in a location that dosnt have a station or maybe it’s a location you don’t plan to build a station but you need one for a short time.
    It’s also a fantastic way to evacuate a location, say you need to evac a planet? Using normal ships it could take days or weeks or you send in one of these things and get it done in one maybe two trips.

    a multiple mobile star base probably after the issue in Picard season 3 the federation new aliance with the borg allowed delta or fox quadrant exploration, the distance between star bases made it impossible to travel for a number of craft that relyed on standard warp drive, and back for essential repairs or extensive refits following a hostile encounter with a new form of specis 8472 to many it was a one way trip like the voyager incident , so in collaboration with the alide borg a new class was developed allowing multi ship slip stream movement, this allowed star ship class ships stranded to return but also continue there mission in the new quadrant, yet also remain mobile and capable of self defence in the event of a hostile race encounter

    • @davitto01
      @davitto01 11 месяцев назад +2

      I would see it as a precursor to a Universe Class. As startfleet starts exploring other galaxies, they need mobile command centres. So the first iteration was just whacking some nacelles on a starbase and shooting it into another galaxy to establish a beach head.
      Once the idea has proven successful, then they develop other classes intended to be mobile bases from conception rather than just kit bashing. Eventually evolving to the Universe Class Enterprise J.

    I imagine a mobile starbase would be very useful in a rear line in a war front where damage ships can make minor repairs before heading back to the front line or emergency repairs before heading back to the shipyards for extensive repairs. It will also serve as a supply depot for a fleet and r&r for crews. My main complaint of the USS Basestar is the shielding is way too weak and not enough weapons.

    When I first saw the name “Basestar” before clicking on the video, I thought this was a Cylon ship.
    Very interesting ship. I wonder if it’s a mobile carrier for starships. You can fit a small fleet inside, take it to the edge of a war front, all the ships inside go off to the front lines and the Basestar stays behind in case any need to come back for repairs. You could also coordinate the war effort from the Basestar, and its armaments ensure that any opposition that comes too close can be repelled by the Basestar itself and protect the ships inside that need repairs.
    I am curious though, the Basestar’s doors are open, could you take a shuttle or a small ship and fly inside it?

    @davidprinzing8059 11 месяцев назад +3

    I like the concept, but it's underpowered for a starbase. DS9 doesn't even have this massive warp drive but they clearly have superior shields and weapons. A stationary starbase is going to be built deep in friendly territory and will likely always have access to dozens or even hundreds of vessels, but this is a type of forward operating starbase (FOS) which would require even greater defenses and weapons. Even if you didn't heavily arm it, in the very least it should be a turtle with a super-hard "shell" of a shield grid.
    While we are on the topic, those warp engines when off should allow for a massive supply of power to the other areas of the ship. Therefore, it shouldn't be so power constrained.
    I want to see a Star Trek episode or movie where they have one of these, and the ships inside get "docking locked" to prevent them from shifting during an emergency warp maneuver. Can you imagine how much power the inertia dampeners would require to warp out with not just the full mass of the Basestar, but also all of the docked ships as well?

    The reason Starfleet created a small defiant ship to go against a huge borg cube is because of its manoverbility to avoid enemy fire. A huge ship like this is sitting duck for small ships to attack. Tarsha Yar also said that the ambassador class could better defend itself against the slower romulan ships because of its manoverbility. A huge ship is not good for combat. It cannot implement evasive manourvers. Kamakaze enemy ships can take it out within seconds, you know in star wars where the purple 🟣 hair woman rammed into the big ship?

    • @ryuukeisscifiproductions1818
      @ryuukeisscifiproductions1818 11 месяцев назад

      Only in the world of fiction and dogshit fire control systems is that true. The reality is that good fire control systems and accuracy pretty thoroughly negate maneuverability advantages, especially in settings dominated by highly accurate guided missiles or lightspeed directed energy weapons. No ship no matter how fast or maneuverable it is is ever going to outmaneuver a missile, So pair a large ship up with a very powerful long range fire control system and lots of missiles, small ships basically become cannon fodder.

      @ryuukeisscifiproductions1818 11 месяцев назад

      @@themeaningoflifeexpert that's a bad argument, a very bad one. because only the clinically insane or braindead stupid are deranged enough to use subspace weapons. Not even the klingons, Romulans or Dominion are braindead stupid enough to resort to subspace weapons. And it because the damn things are highly unpredictable, with just as much of a chance of killing the user as they would the enemy. not to mention what do you think is going to happen to that highly volatile unpredictable subspace weapon should the ammunition magazine containing it take a hit.
      In fact the TNG episode unification part 1 shows exactly what happens when you try to stick far too many weapons onto a small hull. Sure the small ship had enough firepower to significantly drain enterprise D's shield, but enterprise D only had to hit back with a light phaser blast and the whole ship's magazines detonated. So in other words small ships with overpowered weapons turn into flying bombs that die to light hits.
      The only reason this didn't happen to the defiant class is because starfleet used lots of very compact and highly expensive technology and engineering on the defiant to make that happen. Thus defiant is not a cheap ship, its a very expensive one built in a very compact hull with very high maintenance requirements and very poor endurance.

    I like it. It can be used to search for Voyager before they found away home, but continued to explore the Delta quadrant . It can also be used during war as a forward operations base it pick up damage ships wounded troops can be beamed to medical rooms monitor star fleet borders that are high risk of conflict or not. It can be used to move colonies from dying or troubled planets, and lastly, it can be used against the Borg, Jem'Hadar, and the Voth after meeting them again.

    Given the pounding the Starbase took in Picard. I would put it as a ship that eclipses dreadnoughts. If the saucer section detaches you could either have a Starbase delivery ship or a ship carrier vessel for ships that are fight ready but can't warp in at the same time.

  • @hexenhammer483
    @hexenhammer483 11 месяцев назад

    Its an gigantic aircraft carrier / mobile dry dock. It qualifies as a rue Flag ship and would be able to center of nearly any large scale operation the Federation under took. Evacuate a planet? Defend a large area of space? It'd spearhead exploration into new unexplored areas.

  • @HawkGTboy

    Cool idea. IMO a ship like this should have six nacelles, multiple warp cores and have its own small fleet of small ships in the Defiant to Intrepid range. It could be the super-long range explorer that the Galaxy Class was supposed to be when they were first developing TNG.

    You know that "basestar" was the name of the cylon motherships in Battlestar Galactica :) Nice concept, but bigger isn't always better. The starbase orbiting earth is really massive, hard to imagine that even part of it would act as a ship. Maybe, if you build the real thing for us and take us for a ride, we can test it out and see for ourselves :)

    i like it, but only for what i would use it for, i would modify it to have separation of the saucer, and allow the core to warp without it, and move the bridge tothe core, and use the ship to deliver the saucer to new colonies on the frontier to be used as the core of the actual star base they build/extend off the saucer... allow for rpid deployment and armed core special for hostile regions of space

  • @YoLo-bb2vc

    so starfleet created a mobile command base? well tactically it keep fleet command on the field in war time and in peacetime seeing this behemoth show up might make your average pirate think twice!
    conceptually this is similar to a mobile repair yard i called a "Sentinel" it was huge easily the biggest ship i ever built for GC3 at the time but such things would only see combat if the frontline was pushed back to it as its a stategic asset for some serious deep space logistics. id imagine this being parked up somewhere safe near the front lines with freighters go to and from it while repairs are done to damaged starfleet vessels and recently repaired ones are leaving back to hold the line or fight who ever they had issues with.
    also the crew requirements for such a beast would be huge and so starfleet probably could only field 1 of these bad boys.

  • @gabiballetje
    @gabiballetje 11 месяцев назад

    The two... pilons, things coming from under the dome back to the nacelles, they hardly have any windows, while they're huge, there would surely also be people living in there, or labs, just, stuff, and windows, and most likely more nacelles, for redundancy, and because they probably have to use so much power so you can switch between sets and keep going.
    Depending on how big it is, having a few Defiants and Akiras and Steamrunners etc in there might be a good thing, together with a bunch of fighters.
    The inside would also of course be a repair bay.
    And for the mass problem you have, it should basically have sublight engines on EVERY side.
    And it would obviously have quite an accompanying fleet all the same.

    So, an aircraft carrier for full-sized starships. Like with aircraft carriers, they aren't heavily armed themselves, but rely on their planes and the various escort ships for the majority of their defence. So, part of its "attack" strategy should be to launch various starships, shuttles/runabouts/fighters/etc.,

    That thing could be a true juggernaut if it was designed for offense. it could launch a hurricane of torpedoes with basically unlimited magazine capacity. or it could be a carrier for like 200 Defiants that could swarm out.

  • @KronosGodwisen

    This is basically a Starfleet Death Star. The Federation isn't in the business of cracking planets but it would be a shame to waste an opportunity.
    It's a bit crazy to create weapons platforms and put as many civilians on it as possible. A mobile space dock could be more useful.
    In my opinion the Constitution class remains the best sized ship or most missions we see in Star Trek. Exploration for months on its own, border patrol, defense and what not.
    Galaxy class would be great for multi year missions, maybe even decades without returning to Federation space. It's rather wasted the way it's sent back and forth.
    This thing would be great if you want to explore the other side of the galaxy and leave a network colonies on the way.

    I think it needs less speed and better msnurability though the concept is a good one from a tactical stand point, you could deploy them as forward commsnd posts and have them launch loads of fighters to screen your incoming fleet

    I would have expected a lot more robust power from the shields and weapons. Overall looks like a neat concept. With a little more refining that would be a really cool way to recycle star bases. It also puts the trek universe closer to the star wars universe in terms of ship size.

    "The power of a statbase"
    Which isn't possible as the power supply comes from the generator in the base of the long shaft under the mushroom cap of the station.
    What we see on the ship it doesn't have enough room for the power supply needed for the ship to properly function.
    This ship though interesting just isn't feasible.
    Give it a secondary hull like say the shaft of the lower section of the star base but on its side under the mushroom cap connected by a short thick neck then add the pylons and nacelles.
    Maybe not as "cool" looking but would make sense.
