On topic of the hatch bit, I remember years ago I had a game as survivor where we finished all gens; instead of leaving some guy told me to follow him only for all 4 of us to find and escape through the hatch, I still have the 4-hatch escape achievement saved on my ps4 to remind me that it was a real event that occurred
but what you have to remember was is this was back in a time when both killer nor survivor cared about balance and generally looping wasn’t a major aspect of the game, not until a a few months to a year later was it truly incorporated into survivors strategies. moreover, this focuses more on the balance of the old state which yes is a significant factor as to why it wasn’t the most fun game it could’ve been, but the horror aspect (which is literally in the games description “asymmetrical horror game”) was there, which was funner than the “horror” the game is now.

I know just how broken some perks were, but the game had more soul. Saying these problems (in the video) were problems presistant in 2016 to 2017 dbd. Not the DBD that most people entered the game into (what people say is the old dbd). Most players just miss the soul that the game had when they first played, not what dbd has become now.
I miss Old DBD because old DH, Boon circle of healing, DS, Locker saves, Flashlight clicking but unfortunately killer mains cried to much and ruined it
I liked the old hatch opening mechanic, it was cool to have a silly optional objective late in games. In probably 200-300 games I only ever saw it interacted with in maybe 5 of them? Or 10? And probably half of those was one or two dudes leaving, leaving the rest behind lol. Ofc hatch standoffs were dumb and bad, but that's a player issue. DC and go next, wasting time over a hatch is just pointless. Edit: I'd love to see the old hatch spawn mechanic come back in 3-gen situations where nobody is downed or hooked after like 5-10 minutes. That'd be funny.
The old hatch mechanic was horrid and no, it was not a "player issue". Who wants to spend 20+ minutes in a match and be told you should have DC'd and lose all your points? 🤣 Hatch standoffs happened in way too many matches.
Games still in a pretty crappy place now for sure but I remember having to deal with the old hatch standoffs, juggling DS survivors, and infinite recharging sprint bursts of the time too, I think the biggest thing was I miss the mindset most of the playerbase of DBD had at the time, cause the majority of the playerbase just didn’t realize the power they had back then.
I remember most of these.. The worst for me, the one which got me closest to quiting outright, was pallet vacuums. For those not in the know, when you sprinted at a pallet, you could press space as soon as you were near enough to the pallet to drop it on your side, and you would get zipped to the opposite side of the pallet instantly, as if it had sucked you into position for the drop animation. Killers would chase a survivor around the same loop 3 times, barely getting close enough to hit, only for the survivor to suddenly zip to the other side of the pallet just as your swing was about to connect. Rinse and repeat for every pallet on the map.
I wouldn’t mind a separate game mode where every perk is overpowered for both the killers and survivors. If everything is overpowered then everything is fair.
Me as a survivor main in modern DbD either being tunneled, proxy camped or slugged every game or watching my team get tunneled, proxy camped or slugged every game :P

Literally not a single person who says old DbD was better has in mind year 1 of the game. For me, around 3-4 year mark was easily the best time for DbD as it required much more skill from both sides.
Not going to lie I remember the two gen hatch from way back where a group just needed a rainbow map and a skeleton key and just gen rush the two and immediately look for the hatch and escape with everyone it was interesting to say the least
Im newish to dbd, and i keep hearing killer mains cried and made the game unfair. Im a killer main; but what if they gave the old properties to perks like dh, ds, etc. to survivors, and removed bloodlust; but killers dont have a terror radius,, and spine chill doesnt exist.
The hatch change was borderline ridiculous and so disappointing, being able to close it is good, but the setup with it spawning considering the gen to survivor ratio was so good, the killer or a survivor could gain an idea of where it is for when there is just one person left, so it wouldn't be a random chance of whoever finds it first in the endgame, the keys are now useless and work 90% less of the time, and it just takes away from the game for no reason, it wasn't OP, unbalanced, anything, was just fun and made well
0:08 Oh yeah, Rost... He's the type of "killer mains" (He's actually not) who will say that DH rework was unneeded, and Snowmans from Winter Event 2021 were fun.
Tbh, I just picked 2 thumbnails that fit my agenda and ultimately leads to a bigger watch time. That's about it. There was no intent to actually call em out
imagine how much more content and balance we could have in this game if dbd devs and others above could actually understand balance back then especially i swear it took them like 4 full years of just reworking their mistakes and mess ups of making things OP like i swear do these idiots even play the game.
Over half of these are from the first 6-8 months of the game. I'd say peak dead by daylight would be 2018-2019, where the only bad things in the game would be infinities.
Also you forgot about unhooked and never spawned back again or destroyed traps, self-heal, moonlights offers, splinters offers, survivors perks and killers perks mixing bug.
Those killers that think old DBD was better are into being tortured it seems, because the game was downright unplayable for killers lmao idk how anyone would wanna go back to that, insta blinds, insta heals, insta gen pops, pallet vacuum, Borrowed time on both unhooked and the one doing the unhook, OLD DS, all those things make current DBD look like a perfect game lmao
Old DBD make me the main killer I am now, I still playing with the feeling they will gen rush me in less that a minute XD and that help me to use the map to my advantage
Ya the game used to be horrible for killers and absolutely wonderful for survivors for the most part. Maybe some of those people saying old Dbd is better are actually survivor mains?
Damn I never play the old dbd now I understand killers being a survivor main definitely was much easier back and plus with perks like ds and dead hard man just too broken

I recently got grabbed off a hatch by Wesker just as I finished unlocking it and was about to jump in 😄 Instant flashbacks to old DBD. A guy in our SWF got into a hatch stand-off with a Wraith, told us to go play a match without him - and was still in it when we finished. That Wraith ended up relenting first. Peanuts compared to the examples you've given in the video - but still. If only DBD had tournaments for pettiness... I got grabbed off a hatch by a Clown who faked out hitting me by using his bottle throwing animation - and I was too impatient to wait to actually lose a health state. I went to do gens because a Myers was camping hatch (we had like 2 left, I think). I got distracted while repairing, he found me and killed me. Another Myers was chasing me while I had a key. I accidentally ran across the hatch and insta-unlocked it. Was this objectively worse than what we have now? Definitely. But it did create some memorable situations. I remember the Ghostface PTB. The sorry state of his power at first aside, Badham had holes in it. You'd jump in and fall back onto the map from the sky. You could land on tables, or even containers. There was another PTB where going into the basement sent you into a void: you'd just be stuck perpetually falling into emptiness. There was the bug where survivors would get stuck at hill corners. I still occasionally rewatch Krugozor's "Dead by Daylight 4.5.0 PTB In a Nutshell" - that was the PTB where they introduced new UI and new animations. Such a beautiful mess. Old Haddonfield was one of my favourite maps as survivor because I simply liked the way it looked (hated Badham then, hate it now). But then I tried playing it as killer. Mother of God.... (⌐■_■) ( •_•)>⌐■-■ (•_•) I'm sorry, killer mains, that map was an abomination. Still miss its aesthetics though. DBD has come a long way. Hindsight is always 20:20, and it will be interesting to see what about today's DBD will be seen the same way we see lack of gen regression a few years from now ( _cough_ MFT _cough_ ). But I honestly don't think all the content creators going on about old DBD unironically believe that the game was better from a technical perspective. What was better was their experiences, how they felt playing the game - not necessarily facilitated by busted perks and map design - and that's what they miss. It's called getting old, my sweet summer children, get used to it ;) I do miss the old flashlight animation though. Little crabbies.
I dont think u understand whats going on. When people talk about "old dbd", they mean dbd from 2018 to the time when the movement got reworked. Everything that came after that except the new graphics is literally fucking up the game and it will never be what it used to be. The only people who say that old dbd sucked are killer mains like u that were crying when survivors were actually able to learn bunch of mechanics that are no longer in game. I hope now u enjoy a game where survivors are nerfed to max and playing a survivor is literally no skill (compared to old dbd).
Whenever i say old dbd is better, i mean the graphics and the animations. I really miss the old animations and the graphics. Everything u showed in the videos, is a mistakes that devs did. U cannot do anything without mistakes.

For me, around 3-4 year mark was easily the best time for DbD as it required much more skill from both sides.
Not going to lie I remember the two gen hatch from way back where a group just needed a rainbow map and a skeleton key and just gen rush the two and immediately look for the hatch and escape with everyone it was interesting to say the least
wasn’t better but it was far more fun
For which side lol? 😂
What’s that trap perk at 1:15
That was pain! Dont forget non respawn hook😢
Im newish to dbd, and i keep hearing killer mains cried and made the game unfair. Im a killer main; but what if they gave the old properties to perks like dh, ds, etc. to survivors, and removed bloodlust; but killers dont have a terror radius,, and spine chill doesnt exist.
The hatch change was borderline ridiculous and so disappointing, being able to close it is good, but the setup with it spawning considering the gen to survivor ratio was so good, the killer or a survivor could gain an idea of where it is for when there is just one person left, so it wouldn't be a random chance of whoever finds it first in the endgame, the keys are now useless and work 90% less of the time, and it just takes away from the game for no reason, it wasn't OP, unbalanced, anything, was just fun and made well
Bonus: Hooks Gone Forever, Sabo'ed Hooks Used To Never Come Back Meaning You Only Had Basement Hooks...
Don’t forget instant mori on first down and a bunch of killer stuff too
Old dbd had a lot of quirks and imbalance, still better than current dbd tho. At least the old dbd had aesthetics and feeling.
Big disagree. As both a Survivor and Killer player.
Missing honorable mention like perma sabo that was craze
Old DBD make me the main killer I am now, I still playing with the feeling they will gen rush me in less that a minute XD and that help me to use the map to my advantage
It was just perfect in 2021. It just went downhill from there.
Survivors could break all traps of Trapper with toolbox😁
now we only got tunneling pig…
8:52 Of course it always has to be Claudette coz why not!
Ya the game used to be horrible for killers and absolutely wonderful for survivors for the most part. Maybe some of those people saying old Dbd is better are actually survivor mains?
You forgot to mention pallets and window vacuums, and the only thing why old dbd was better is there is no SWF at release version, only KYF
This video is just a killer main saying how he hated things about survivor mains back in the day. I’m a killer main saying this😂
Damn I never play the old dbd now I understand killers being a survivor main definitely was much easier back and plus with perks like ds and dead hard man just too broken
I still prefer the old cold wind farms
Darker maps are only things i ask 😢
no bloodlust too
And survivors want to complain about the game being "killer sided" these days.
dbd is only survivor sided if its a swf, if its solo q it is killer sided you cant deny that
I’m a killer main and with the uneeded nerfs they are getting yes this game is definitely killer sided😂
@@raredivineand yet survivors deny when I say the game is survivor sided when you are in a swf its just both sides not wanting to admit that saying that the game is one sided is just wrong because it depends on the situation of the match if it's a swf it's survivor sided if it's a solo queue lobby then it's killer sided anyone who genuinely believes the game is one sided no matter what side they are on then they are just wrong
Damn I’m glad I didn’t play at the very beginning 😳
Its alot more killer sidded more than ever
This video gave me too much ptsd
Ah yes, the old hatch mechanic sucked because survivors that play well shouldn't be allowed an easy escape
too much balance makes the game boring its like in fighting games there’s always guna be a top tier no matter what imagine if every character played like ryu there would be no player expression thats why it sucks when they take out stuff you can do that requires skill like chucky 180 flicks
1.0.0 And other
for me this video was.... 10 reasons why old dbd was better.. a lot more fun...
It was so bad but damn I had fun I'm ngl
Old dbd was fun. This iteration is full of tryhards that have watched one too many RUclips videos

I'm sorry, killer mains, that map was an abomination.
It's called getting old, my sweet summer children, get used to it ;)
I do miss the old flashlight animation though.
Very good!
Thanks!
Old dbd was better was actually a horror game then but it was way more survivor friendly for sure
Killer mains are saying old dbd was good? 😂 I call bs on that statment.
old dbd was better!
I mean it sucks even now lol. For just different reasons.
Old dbd was way more fun. Your opinion is of the minority but I respect it either way.
Well, it was fun)
Whenever i say old dbd is better, i mean the graphics and the animations.
I really miss the old animations and the graphics.
Everything u showed in the videos, is a mistakes that devs did.
U cannot do anything without mistakes.
Yeah you complain to much get better
you didn't watch the whole video huh

Yea old dbd was so fucked only o e thing was okay was old dead hard he was balanced not now when he is broken and is for noobs
womp Nga womp
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Old hatch mechanic was better 😤
That's me!
a lot of these are from 2016. i dont think most people refer to the very start or alpha days of dbd when they say "old dbd". for me its 2018-2020, which was different from what it has become now.
