The rules started to change after the low ratings of the 2005 Spurs/Pistons finals. Draymond never played under a 2004 defense. The closest would be FIBA rules.

Draymond calling Sheed the "weak link on defense" is quite perplexing- Sheed was one of the best post defenders of all time and became an excellent team defender with detroit.
Sheed was very versatile offensively and defensively. They had no weakness in the starting lineup defensively.
Sheed and Wallace gotta guard in space something they didn’t have to do with regularity. Who posting up consistently on the warriors? It’s all DHO, PnR, And screening actions it’s a whole different monster for Detroit.

If Rasheed is your weakest defender you are one hell of a defensive team. Rasheed offensively is what he’d have to worry about. Rasheed had great range on his jumpers he could shoot 3s he’s considered by many to be one of the more talented bigs at his position. Getting wide open looks from 3 in this era he’d be cooking.

However, if they are playing under 2004 rules they would have no chance of winning more than 1 game. Hand checking was legal during that time period, the majority of the moves that they do today were illegal and most of the moving screens would have been called like it was back then.

Idk. I think if they played in that era of the early 2000s I really don’t see how Golden state beats That piston team. Especially the first squad that got a ring. KD on those two teams makes a whole difference. But defense win games and Sheed, Ben, And Tayshaun can straight up guard. Sleep on prince if you want. He can do everything KD does. How can Draymond say that his team made the " 04" Pistons brand of basketball extinct when none of them except KD was in the league during the Pistons run. The last time the Pistons were good was 2007-08 and that year they Lost in EFC to the Big 3 lead Celtics in 6 games. Curry ("09" class), Thompson ("11" Class), Green("12" Class) & KD was in his rookie year.
Cause they're style of play you don't see in today's game.
It's not because they played against them or were in the league at the time. It's because their style of play revolutionized the game.
David Stern is the one that really killed that put that brand to rest once the 7 seconds or less suns arrived.
Underrated x-factor for Pistons just like in 04: Lindsey Hunter. He and 6'9 Tayshaun Prince with the freakishly long suffocating wingspan are 2 of the greatest perimeter defenders in history who locked down Kobe in the 04 Finals, and Prince locked down Tracy Mcgrady in 03 after the Pistons got down 3-1 and is perfect for KD (Tracy 2,0). However, the 2 Pistons defenders couldn't be more different.
Hunter is like a lightning quick, rugged, strong NFL RB who is the one guy who can get in Steph's grill 94 feet for 15-20 minutes a game like he's never experienced and physically wear him down. Whenever an opponent's offence got in a flow Larry Brown would throw Hunter in with fresh legs and it would throw a wrench into the machine. Hell, Matthew Dellavedova gave Curry problems with his Rugby athleticism and build before he was hospitalized with exhaustion because he wasn't used to playing half the minutes and expending energy guarding a generational player like Curry over multiple games.
Pistons D Matches up perfectly:
1. Prince has Durant and will smother him like he did to Mcgrady in 03 and Kobe in 04.
2. Rip can chase down Klay better than anyone because he does the same thing on offence and never gets tired.
3. Chauncey, who also has the build of an NFL player, will be a much better (2nd Team All Defense multiple times) version of Dellavedova on Steph before Hunter checks in. Then Steph really has to work.
4. Sheed guards Draymond who will have no problem sticking with one of the least athletic players in the NBA. It's Draymond's Jokic like IQ that's the wild card. Yet if that's a problem the Pistons can switch one of the most athletic, strongest and possibly GOAT defender in Ben Wallace.
5. Ben Wallace can start on Iggy
And Pistons shoot 3s too. Chauncey and Sheed can from very deep with Prince able to stroke it from the logo like it's a walk in the park, just watch his five threes in a row to start the game against North Carolina when playing for Kentucky. Future 7'0 All Star Mehmet Okur is a great 3-point shooter off the bench.
It’s weird comparing eras…. It’s also dumb. If Bigshot was chucking up 3s as well as Sheed it would be interesting. The Pistons were also the type of team that would definitely sick Tayshaun on a player like Steph and make it his only focus to stop Steph and sit in the corner. Steph struggled against much lesser defenders like Matthew Delladova just because he was committed. Klay never had a good finals series. Closer than people think. Klay is going to be chasing Rip around the entire game as well.
You can ALWAYS spot the people that don’t watch basketball. Steph averaged more TOs than 3s against Delly a dude who gets torched 😭😭😭😭😭

Warriors would be even better defensively than they were because they giving Tayshaun straight Tony Allen Treatment. Ben Wallace also required no offensive attention outside of 5ft from the basket. He was also a dreadful ft shooter those guys would tank any offense the Pistons would try to run because guys like Iggy and Dray can just roam and disrupt off ball actions. This is just a bad matchup

This is a hypothetical era vs era. The question is, what rules are we talking about? New era or old era. That's the defining factor in this debate. It could go either way based on that.
Most of the pistons have already commented on this exact matchup. Only sheed is confident of winning. Chauncey, rip, and Prince all agreed modern rules warriors win. 2004 rules then the pistons have a chance. According to them which could be a political answer. Or they acknowledge one team had 4 hall of famers and the pistons had 2.
Rules? Well for starters let’s call traveling, carrying. Modern day game degenerated to getting away will constant carrying, traveling.

Crossovers by the rules is illegal so are euro steps, hesitations but they make for a better visual product so they are allowed. I’m glad sheed touched on how the refs no longer enforce carry/travel calls anymore. Nowadays players lift their pivot foot, take 3-4 steps doing layups… Steph/harden among other will literally pick up the ball, take 2 steps back then shoot 🤦🏾♂️ I’ve also noticed the score keeper manipulate games as well. As a true fan, it’s looking more and more like wwe every season.
Y’all act like curry and KD can’t play regular. That whole carry thing started because warriors was killing the rockets and they needed a way to help harden vs warriors so they started letting it go and Curry decided to use it against them. But from 2012 to 2017 curry wasn’t doing that. & curry never got foul calls & still don’t. So you can’t use the refs to say they helped warriors. And if you say piston’s play hard defense you can’t bring up moving screens because if they not calling fouls on pistons why beg for moving screens? Just let it all go and see who wins. Being able to move your pivot foot, take 2-4 additional steps to create space to shoot/drive the lane breaks every fundamental rule in the book. First off Chancey is posting up Steph ALL DAY LONG. Klay won't be able to keep up with Rip constant moving. And Sheed in this era would be a MONSTER, he would destroy Draymond one on one. And also the Warriors can score but they ain't stopping that Piston team from getting buckets. Billups is too strong, Rip is too shifty, Tayshaun is just too long, and Sheed is too versatile as a scorer.

All the teams I mentioned were long, (pause), smart, tough, physical, defensive, good rebounding, no second chance shots, good shooting, good shot selection teams. Ain’t no way GS can handle all that. On top of it all they were all extremely well coached with very solid leadership on the court.
