    I don’t care what anybody says that sumo dead lift is a different lift. The range of movement is ridiculously small. I’m not saying they’re not strong, but I’m saying it’s a different lift to me. I do with the glasses is lifting the bar like 8 inches when when John is lifting it it’s gotta go a couple of feet.

      thats ridiculous. its all leverages and body anatomy. some people are built for sumo and some for conventional. a lot of very tall and heavy lifters would struggle to lift 75% of their conventional pull on sumo, no matter how much they trained it. as soon as plates are loaded on a stiff bar the playing fields get levelled, its deadlift bars that make these hyper upright no ROM pulls possible and I wish more federations would move away from them. after all, is it really a "dead"lift if the bar is already moving before the pull?

    • @vitaliyvorobets2738
      @vitaliyvorobets2738 7 месяцев назад +2

      Literally all the best conventional pullers in the world are the perfect example for you, none of them would gain anything from sumo, in fact they are weaker with it. Eddie Hall has stated many times that he wouldn’t even budge 500kg off the ground with sumo. Larry wheels failed a 765 sumo deadlift after pulling 900 conventional, John Haack (the conventional pulled in the video) has said he pull with conventional because he is weaker with sumo. The reality is that people pull what their bone structure and leverages allow, there’s no ultimate technique that’s the best. There’s a reason only 50% of powerlifters do sumo, even at the elite level where they would do ANYTHING to win.

    funny shit how the sumo guy only needed to pull the slack out of the bar to lock out his back.

    Sumo completely different lift than conventional. John put them all to shame.

    around 6 inches. BUT real sumo is without straps: you need to hold the bar. - 6 inches becomes 8. and heavier

    sumo deadlift and conventional deadlift needs to be separate events. Or just make the conventional deadlift the standard

    I don’t care. 2 guys do say 700. One conventional and one sumo. I think the first guys stronger. And whether you say it or not when someone does a lot dump you always thing “yeah BUT”.

    My nuanced take:
    Sumo without straps is valid. Sumo with straps is not valid.
    Sumo on a Texas deadlift bar is valid.
    Sumo on a kabuki bar is not valid.

    I don’t understand why anyone allows sumo at these comps or why any guys practice sumo, I really don’t get it.

    I know this is for fun. But I feel the lifts should be standardized. There are participants doing powerlifting grips, such as mixed and sumo and the strongman way with double over and straps or sometimes hook grip. And then there are those that are using straps and sumo or mixed, which makes no sense to me. And then there's the guy using the figure 8 straps, which does reduce range of motion. Just too much of a potpourri to take seriously.

      There are literally zero competition that allow the use of straps and sumo.

    Im convinced the people who hate on sumo for the rom advantage have never tried sumo because it is infinitely harder off the floor then conventional, requires mobility and levers most people don't have and targets smaller muscle groups. That being said strong sumo pullers are usually pretty strong conv pullers but almost never the other way around.

      no, it’s easier. when my 1RM was a beltless and strapless 695 i had never attempted sumo before. i was messing around one day and after a whole squat routine i pulled 675 sumo without knowing the form other than seeing videos of it and i almost completely locked out. it’s not a coincidence that i could almost tie my conventional PR doing sumo for my first time. i have the videos on my IG

    Especially watching the two one after another, you just can’t respect the sumo. It’s just…why even train it as your prime lift? It’s not something anyone respects
