Glad to see this game get more attention in recent years. When it came out, it was the 3-D or bust era, so 2D sides-scrollers were considered old news. But honestly, the game producers in the 5th generation (N64/Saturn/Playstation) of Consoles really didn't take enough advantage of what they could do with 2D games with a new generation of hardware. I think games like this stand out because they DID do that, while a lot of the full-3D games from the era (aside from a very small set of classics) are forgotten.
That ad will haunt me for the rest of my pitiful years on this earth. I’m glad you pointed out just how jank the western game box arts were at that time. A weird obsession with anything 3D getting in the way of what was usually already 10/10 artwork in Japan.
Loved this game as a kid found out the hard way that the dash from thumbstick in same direction twice is way slower than the c buttons booster dash during the goddamn race segment of the festival and i still remember struggling on that to this goddamn day XD
What? I had to learn how to use the dpad dash precisely because the c button dash has a cooldown which made it impossible to win the meter dash festivities with C buttons.
All I remember about this crap was wanting to play it so badly, but blockbuster had it rented out every time I went. Except for one time when they didn't, so I rented it and when I played it I remember hating it
Love this game. Treasure revisited the grab and shake mechanic in warioworld on the GameCube. I really enjoyed the soundtrack, it has such a distinctive sound.
Nice video. Definitely a game I’ve now added to the list for if I’m ever in the mood to play a 2D platformer again.
