Thank you so much! I know people are purchasing new Canons by now, but I still love my T3i but never shot a movie with it. The manual isn't a whole lot of help, but this video certainly is! I'll be doing some art tutorials pointing down at a desk, so thank you for the zoom function info and for showing us how to navigate the buttons. I'm sure I'll be returning to this many times. Your video was the find I needed. Thank you!
I have been a photographer for a while and upgraded to a Canon 600D around Christmas time last year and your video saved me! I hadn't videoed in my camera for a while after filming a New Year's video, and thought to play around with it before my dance comp on Sunday to get some footage. But when I switched it to video, it was so so dark! Then when you changed your aperture, I noticed that I didn't even think of changing it! Now I see everything fine on my screen! Thank you!
THANK YOU I spent over an hour trying to find information about my camera's movie mode but couldn't get any results and this video answered all my questions and more. Again, thank you for this highly in-depth video about movie mode
Thanks for the video! My Rebel t3i won't focus at all when I am trying to film a regular video of a person at their desk. I am only using the lens that came with is, 18-55, but I thought I should be able to do something that simple?
You should be able to engage the regular auto focus while shooting a video, but I wouldn't recommend it as it will focus just like in photo mode and make a loud sound from the motor. The T3i does not have the ability to auto focus in video like a camcorder does, so many people switch to manual focus and simply do it themselves while filming.
You're welcome! The T3i and the 600d are identical cameras. Canon and other companies often give the same product different names for different world markets to prevent grey market sales.
Hey, i just got 50mm. and i am not able to shoot from it as the lens is too zoomed in. i have to keep it in opposite corner of my room to even capture from head to waist in the frame. any tips? or advice? i would really really apprieciate it. i am a regular content creater on youtube and this is giving me hard time.
Its a great tutorial but please can someone tell me why all of my readings show exactly what you have shown except mine shuts off recording after like 5-10 seconds?
Check to make sure your memory card is fast enough to accept all of the data of full HD video. In this case on your memory card you should see a letter "C" with a number 10 inside of it. If it is a lower number than 10, then the answer is to simple get a new SD card. These days cards that fast are super cheap and easy to find. They are referred to as "Class 10", or the newer designation would be a card listed as "V30". This memory Card should be more than fast enough: amzn.to/2A8QLZD
+Naveed Hooda You can stop the recording and start again at any time. However, this will create two separate clip files. I don't currently know of a way to pause the recording and start it again while it remains one file.
any help this is a comment i saw and everything about it its right can you help please? I have this exact camera and around the 1 minute mark I noticed something different. My camera (on the 1920x1080 setting) only goes to 25fps and 08:06 minutes. Once I start shooting it doesn't tell me how long I've been recording for. It also stops randomly. A message will appear saying "movie recording has been stopped automatically" any idea what is going on? I'm using the standard 18-55mm lens that came with the camera. Does the SD card I use have any effect on this situation? -veronica salinas
It most likely means that the memory card you are using is not fast enough or possibly not large enough. You want to use an SD card that is Class 10 which will be represented by a "C" on the card with the number 10 in the middle. If you already have this then try getting a larger memory card.
Which button do you push. Everybody leaves that part out. When I push the button it says "Still photo shooting is not possible in movie mode." Must be the wrong button.
Most likely your focus is off. The T3i does not have auto focus during movie mode except for the kind used with taking pictures. Its best to manually focus during video with this camera. It's more of a pain the in the butt, but you can get the focus exactly how you would like.
Not that I know of. Even the firmware hack called Magic Lantern cannot extend the recording time, although it can add a huge amount of functionality to the camera.
Yes, but it's not very good. I believe the T3i does have an external microphone input which you can plug another microphone into. I recommend Rode brand microphones as I feel they are a good quality at a good price. Here is a link: amzn.to/2hPZIsV
+sasha223 I think the SD card you are using may be too slow to record Full HD video. Make sure to use an SD card that is Class 10 or higher. It will have the letter "C" on the card with the number "10" inside of it.
My 32G card says it has 8 hours of video on it but is a C4. I haven't used it yet but the one in my camera now is C4 and says it has 7 hours and stops after 8 seconds too. Why the advertising if not true?
When i record, the video lasts about 30 seconds before it stops and says the recording has stopped automatically. My sd card has space and all of my settings are like yours, but this still pops up. i am at a loss and i would like to make a good us of this expensive camera.
Yes, that's correct. You do need an SD card that is at least class 10. Virtually all SD cards sold these days are at least class 10 and you can easily find some online for as cheap as $7-$10.
My video automatically stops when using the canon T3i after about 4-7 seconds and I have a SanDisk ultra plus 48 MB/s 1 class 10 32GB memory card any suggestions
In that case your card may be a forgery of an SanDisk card which is sadly all too common. I would try with another card that is at least class 10, they are very cheap these days, and see if that fixes the problem.
I'm having this problem too. The 32gb card is class 10, but as soon as i go to the video mode it immediately takes a picture, and continues to do this every ten seconds or so.
why is it that when I make a video it goes for at least 10 seconds and says automatically stopped? it will be great if you told me because I have a presentation in 4 days
The SD card you're using is too slow. You need one that is a class 10 to be fast enough to accept the HD video. A card that is class 10 will have a small letter "C" on it with a 10 in the middle instead of the 4 you have now. These cards are common and easy to find at most local stores.
Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant the tax laws in some places on importing photo cameras vs. video cameras are different. Some times it's advantages to manufacturers tax wise to keep the video recording limited to 30 min so it's not classified as a "video" camera, and so is taxed at a lower rate.

Again, thank you for this highly in-depth video about movie mode
Absolutely the most informative video I've seen. Thanks for taking the time to create this.
Really good video on the camera video features. I am struggling with it and learned lots here.

Very informative video! Still learning how to operate my t3i and work the functions and menus better. Thanks for sharing!
your the best, all i was looking for was how to record no one else but you told me how THX
Thanks so much sir what about something on canon 600d
You're welcome! The T3i and the 600d are identical cameras. Canon and other companies often give the same product different names for different world markets to prevent grey market sales.
This video was the most helpful one. Thank you!
Vey helpful for us beginners, Thank you!
So I Can record for 30 min then stop the recording and when I start again I will have another 30 min of recording
Yep, as long as you have room on your SD card.
I have canon 600D but I can only take a video record for 12mins? I have 64gb can you help me?

any tips? or advice?
i would really really apprieciate it.

On a crop sensor camera like the t3i a 50mm will be pretty zoomed in. I know canon makes a 24mm lens that would work better for you: amzn.to/2loKIse
hey thankyou so much for the advice.
:)
DIVVYAH NAGAR Planning to buy a 50mm but I landed on your comment. Is it really zoomed that much?
Hey yes it is.
but that depends on the purpose.
for portraits its great
Lit, nailed it on the head. Nice work
Awesome. You are very knowledgeable. Thanks for this style of video. I learn so much from the way that you teach.
This was really helpful! Thank you so much!
I literally could have watch 55 more minutes of this going through each button in detail lol
Wow thank you for the video. I'm going to play with my camera now for sure.
thank you very much for what u done

Thank you I will give it a try
any videos on why it stops recording and how to set the noise interference
I am having the same issue.
I had the same problem, i just got a memory card with more space, like a 64gb
Same issue
yup same problemo
I had the same issue, it's all about the memory card; some are not very useful for this camera. Try with another memory card :)
thank you so much for this video.
Very useful. Thank you!
is there any way during recording i can pause and then start recording again...?

well done
Very helpful
Thanks, Mate.
Is the menu/settings for the T3i and the 600D somewhat identical?
+Noah Dancaster 600D is simply the non-American market name for the same camera.
thanks it helps me a lot :D
Thank you so much!!
Thank you. i shot video this weekend and it came out blurry. what am i doing to cause this?

Hey guys, is there a way i could record a video for an hour or more using this particular camera?
Not that I know of. Even the firmware hack called Magic Lantern cannot extend the recording time, although it can add a huge amount of functionality to the camera.
does the camera record audio on it's own in movie mode?
Yes, but it's not very good. I believe the T3i does have an external microphone input which you can plug another microphone into. I recommend Rode brand microphones as I feel they are a good quality at a good price. Here is a link: amzn.to/2hPZIsV
Okay. Thank you so much!! I appreciate it!

try a lower resolution setting, your sd card is not fast enough to save de information

Ok, i need to get a better SD card as i found out. where could i find a "class Ten" and how much would i cost?
Yes, that's correct. You do need an SD card that is at least class 10. Virtually all SD cards sold these days are at least class 10 and you can easily find some online for as cheap as $7-$10.

Sir there is problem in my camera video not record after 4 sec can u help me plzz ?
Your memory card is probably too slow. Use a memory card that has a C10 on it. It will look like the letter C with a 10 in the middle.

Agreed, I had a Transcend class 10 card that would do the same thing. Switched to a Sandisk and haven't had that problem again.
my question answered thanks
loved my XT to death, took quite a few years to kill it, currently working on loving my T3i to death. thanks for the excellent concise vid.
Ok found it😁
Hold the clock, did u say it was illegal to film with a dslr for more than 30 Minutes????
Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant the tax laws in some places on importing photo cameras vs. video cameras are different. Some times it's advantages to manufacturers tax wise to keep the video recording limited to 30 min so it's not classified as a "video" camera, and so is taxed at a lower rate.
