As an owner op it’s not about getting miles. It’s about maximizing the money per mile or week. Less miles more pay is what you want
I love Landstar - as a business model. 35 cents for every dollar made without really doing nothing. 65 cents to fight it out between my minions of contractors sold to the idea that they are business capable operators. So much fun!
Ahhh, another smooth brain talking crap about Landstar. Have you ever been to Landstar? Did you fail at Landstar? 65% of the linehaul, plus fuel surcharge at 100%. Averages out to about 72% of what the load pays. You have deflated fuel costs. You have deflated insurance costs. You have higher paying the low rates because of direct customers. 100% of $1.50 is still less than 72% of $2.45. Landstar gives you enough rope to either hang yourself and fail, or pull yourself up and succeeded. But Landstar is a fantastic business model. For both the owner operator, and the corporation of Landstar. Can you go to a customer and say that you have 9000 available trucks? Because Landstar can. Government contracts, department of defense contracts, department of energy contracts, jet engines made by Rolls-Royce, hazardous material… All Secured by the ability to have 9000 trucks ready to take those loads. 9000 trucks equals better negotiation when it comes to freight rates, fuel price discounts, insurance discounts. if you’re an owner operator, show your numbers. What’s your cargo insurance? Landstar, it is zero. that’s what the 65% is. Cargo insurance, maintenance cost-free trailer. Stack your numbers with any Landstar BCO, who knows how to run a business, and yours will fall under their net revenue. Guaranteed.
To get a better idea of your average earnings it might be an idea to negate the first month since the fuigures are so inacurate. Also 35% is a huge slice Landstar are taking for that kind of payment I'd want them to have good paying loads lined up for me all the time.
Thought about it but months like that do occur and I think its important to show the good bad and ugly.
Hope you have a good bankruptcy lawyer😢
Direct shippers 5% of loads, the rest is load board bottom loads.
Please explain why given away 35% of the linehaul is OK,? If you own the truck, why wouldn’t you go somewhere that pays 90% and does dispatching for you you’re doing all that extra work finding loads and Landstar is keeping 35% of the load?!?!That looks like a problem to me!!!!
Who’s paying 90 percent
Besides the 10% or 12% some companies charge are the other expenses and deductions:Fuel,Cargo and Liability insurance,IFTA,ELD,2290,plates,trailer rental fee, etc. That 10% percent includes only running under authority, dispatch and quick pay
Freestyle...Blue Island IL 90% 2G in deductions lease of trailer cargo etc not a bad deal
Ha! I just drove theu massive downpour in Waco yesterday....a d my ABS lit up!
Once i got to dry land in Austin and shut down for an hour...restarted and all was well.
2 something a mile is trash, 1 dollar something should never touch the truck. Unless you put partials together
That’s horrible
It's chaffed wires, I had mine re soldered for 50 bucks solved all issues had nothing to do with sensors
thank you for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
Thanks for sharing your trucking experiences and journeys. Safe Travels.
You bet
Very cool glad your truck is paid off, looks like the money is on the way
This is the problem with owner operators.
Keep working on direct loads. The good freight never hits the load board. Keep working on a relationship with agents and you will grow. Crawl before you can walk. Keep it up but I need to see them suspenders 😎
Looks like the last two weeks are better. If you can run 3000 a week without big maintenance expense, you should do OK. Plan is coming together.
You're running that load board wrong, js. (Stay with direct shippers)
Direct shipper. Direct shipper. Direct shipper. 👍👍👍
Landstar has direct shippers on it? Please explain?
@hazmatlarry72 Direct shipper means that these are shippers that Landstar has a direct business relationship with. When they need to move freight, they call Landstar. The freight rate is pre- negotiated and usually priced way better than comparable spotmarket freight.
Yes they have direct shipper I’m working with landstar for over a 1 year
The only folks complaining about Landstar are the folks not at Landstar.
I love the Excalibur.
I wouldn't start my truck for that kind of money. They are robbing you blind.
True they are robbing truckers. Also how will you pay bills? Shippers and brokers are thieves, as long as we have pete booty plug things will favor shippers and brokers
How are they robbing people?
@davidthomas1194 if you are running broker or through an agent you are getting robbed get your own authority and get your own freight
Are you in the business?
Have you searched for shorter distance loads, for example Phoenix-LA back and forth or Arizona/cali Texas back and forth I basically run these routes with company but I don’t know how much they pay for you thanks for the content
Good information, appreciate the transparency. Ignore the haters who don't understand the numbers. Keep grinding, the market will improve.
Appreciate that
You have to put your foot down. Obviously you do what keeps your business running but if we all stood our ground, things would change. FYI….its pronounced (Kank-ah-Key) Illinois.
Dude… Tim… You have a lot to learn! I am glad to hear your truck is paid off. Congratulations bud. But some of the many things I saw that you definitely want to work on… Negotiation. First of all, when you search the load board search for direct shippers. There’s an option on that load board. Through the app. Look for direct shipper freight first and foremost. Secondly, negotiate. Ask for accessoriials. securement, hazmat, loading, unloading. Some of those will pay 100%. So any extra penny, you can get will help out. Negotiate. Ask for the West Coast fuel rate.
I was listening to your video, not watching. But it sounds like you went over a spreadsheet. Your cost per mile is a $1.02? That sounds inaccurate. I understand you don’t have a truck payment. But are you not paying yourself? You need to include Driver pay.
I applied you for having a spreadsheet and running your numbers. But I do think there is some inaccuracy with them.
Best advice I could give… Listen to the blue ribbon logistics podcast. It is on RUclips. Start at episode one. It may just save you. start listening to it today. Hope you see this comment! I will be subscribing. Safe travels, I will be watching more content and shoot my advice off when necessary. But I think you’ve got this.
Don't forget to set aside money for taxes, do you need to file quarterly? And also money for a truck replacement or significant repairs such as engine overhauls.
good shit
👍
Have you considered running a region such as Chicago triangle? you could really bank.
You're part of the problem of why rates are trash‼️....you won't last long at landstar booking loads like this. $1.80 are you serious dude?
Nonsense. He's not causing low rates. Most of you seem to have no grasp of how markets work.
@@bentonja668 you should keep quiet, you're clueless. I didn't say he's causing low rates but taking cheap freight is adding to the cause. Stay in your lane.
It’s not him, it’s the mega carriers bub. He can turn them down but there’s hidden consequence behind turning down loads. Makes the mega carriers look very bad on their promises.
Agreed wow I watched his other Video 1.35 before Landstars cut they have zero idea they are pushing money
Midwest to CALI ask for 4500 and settle around 4/42. If you can don’t run to NOR CAL only to LA same rate less miles/ but run opposite CA-Midwest,Midwest-Tx/la/Tn then to UT/NV.
Does your door have the landstar logo and dot #'s on it.
I just left Landstar, but i would say the agencies you make money with is CAN,WPH,CAP,RBL. those were my go to agents, direct freight.
Where did you go?
@pep5772 hauling reefers out of amarillo, making 73% with more direct customers, making abit more then when I was at Landstar.
Is Texas a good state for owner operators?
@Quema12 it's worked very we for me.
Is it worth paying your carrier so much? What are they doing for you? Just get your own authority. There's plenty of broker's that will work with you
Insurance is the big one. And a trailer. Also big fuel discounts, factoring, plates, compliance stuff... he gets a lot from the 35% that he would have to pay for on his own if he had his authority. Fixed costs are minimal. With your own authority, If the truck breaks down for a couple weeks, or you just want to take a vacation, you still have bills to pay that a lease operator does not.
Please explain why given away 35% of the linehaul is OK,? If you on the truck, why wouldn’t you go somewhere that pays 90% and does dispatching for you you’re doing all that extra work finding loads and Landstar is keeping 35% of the load?!?!That looks like a problem to me!!!!
Run Cali to Midwest then get load to Texas/Louisiana THEN get load to NV. Trust me you’ll make a goood lil change thank me later! TRIANGLE not square hhaha you’ll be fine.
At lease my truck and I never do anything Less than two dollars a mile
Why do locks and keys keep showing up on your payouts, thank you😊
Landstar requires drivers to have a king pin lock. I got mine from them so they are deducting it weekly. should be there for more than a couple more weeks.
Mr Roboto
Hey. How’s land star load board looking?
Will post load board segment next video
Hope that atleast is NOT for the week but load ouch
What do you mean you took your hazmat test on your route? Dont you have to have hazmat before joining landstar? I called them and they said its a requirement.
You started driving for them without hazmat?
If you pass the background check and provide proof you passed it you can join. You then have to go get the endorsement I think within like 90 days or something.
Is this the type of money you thought you were going to make at Lanstar? I would’ve assumed you would be making a ton more being owner operator.
First month had many issues. I believe things will start improving in the next few weeks.
When is the WSOP? R U still going?.
Starts next week
Planning on a tournament or two. Not going to spend too much time there. Not sure when ill be there
It appears you seldom or never have you FSC in accessorials. Strange.
I put FSC and Accessorial in the same column there.. I renamed it just now. I am not willing to add another column to the spreadsheet just for Accessorial. Too much clutter.
@@truckingthesevenseas I meant when you were showing the app. It wasn’t An insult.
Are you negotiating at all!!??
Landstar Doesn't do negotiating... I have tried in the past but to no avail. I believe it is possible to adjust the accessorials (Fuel surcharge, layover, etc) but that is about it and most wont do it. We were told very clearly at orientation there isn't negotiation and that seems to be the case. I have tried but it hasn't gotten me far...
@truckingthesevenseas any austin taylor load will negotiate rates brother, always try to ask for the most in accesorials.
😂😂😂😂
Did you even try to have another shop remove the governor or did you just take Freightliners word for it? lmao.
You gr0ss $1200 i gross $1600 a week as a company driver
Did u say a $1.08 or a $1.80? It sounded like a buck 8, not a good way say it if you did.
You should try FFC(Fremo Contract Carriers)out of Fremont, Nebraska, they pay by the mile so you don't have to deal with brokers
FYI there’s a hell of a lot better companies to lease on to than landstar. Don’t drink the koolaid, just sayin.
Who do you suggest?
@@kccnut79 just do some research. It’s really not hard. I promise there are more lucrative and less demanding carriers that will sign you on. I run landstar loads along with every other broker on the spot market. I get a better percentage, I book my own freight, I get great fuel, tire maintenance discounts. My insurance is cheaper. No one tells me where I can’t park. And to be honest my carriers not all that special. There are many more just as good or better than mine. Landstar is a mega carrier for owner operators. It’s extremely difficult to run your business successfully under the restrictions of someone else’s business.
Who do you suggest?
This guy says theirs better companies but doesn’t mention it. Such a clown
Well, danielrioss, what are the better companies to lease on to??
I have watched all your videos and I have noticed you want to be an O/O but u don't run that truck like a real business.
You don't want to take crap loads and stay in crap areas because it don't agree with your little square, too interested in staying in hotels and visiting people instead of building a successful business.
You don't fix your own truck you don't care to pay thousands in labor when u could do it just as easy with a few tools.
Majority of landstar people fail within the first year and it's because the run like you want to.
LEASING IS A SCAM!!!!! IF YOU LEASE YOU ARE A LAZY PERSON!!!!!!
Such a dumb comment.
Hope you have a good bankruptcy lawyer😢
