    With an Instagram following comprising 33 million fans, actress and singer Sabrina Carpenter has enjoyed an iconic career of almost 13 years, earning her a respectable net worth and the love of a dedicated fandom. With a quippy personality that has garnered laughs just as easily as it has raised eyebrows, she is a force to be reckoned with. Currently on the road with Taylor Swift, she has made headlines as the opening act of the Eras tour, with appearances in Latin America and Australia under her belt. Ahead of her Singapore arrival, where she will once again open for Taylor Swift, here are some things you need to know about Sabrina Carpenter, from her net worth to her new house, as well as her drama and beef with Guts singer Olivia Rodrigo.

    It seems to be that pop stars are less controlled by agents and record labels than, say, Britney and Christina back in the late '90s. With Britney, Christina, and the lot, their agents were like, "We've already made your new album. All you gotta do is add your vocals. Oh, and act like a Lolita but tell everyone you're waiting until marriage, too." Olivia and Sabrina, though, seem to have more control over their images and music.

I'm really happy there are female musicians out there like Billie Eilish and Olivia that show that there music is what matters and not how appealing their body is to society and men....

    I’ve been listening to Sabrina’s music for over 10 years now and she deserves the recognition she’s getting so so much. I also wanted to add that I think branding herself very subtly as this “hyper sexual/feminine” woman, was such a smart way of regaining her own narrative after being labeled a slut by the entire public and industry. I’m amazed by how professional and strong she has been through all of this.

    • @pancakesxoxo1064
      @pancakesxoxo1064 5 месяцев назад +31

      Ikr. I also feel like it was lowkey sarcastic because of the direct quote from her song "I'm homewrecker, I'm a slut" cause real life personality is very bubbly. It feels like she puts on a persona of this sexy women when she is performing and then immediately switches back to her usual bubbly personality when she is talking.
      It was definitely intentional I think

    it’s funny that people are criticizing olivia on her lack of growth when her DEBUT album came out in March 2021. when drivers license came out there was no full album she clearly showed that in her music documentary. she was 17 when she wrote dl and barely turned 18 AFTER the album debuted. guts a sophomore album came out in 2023. this girl barely turned 21 maybe 2 weeks ago. i think her talent is out of this world for someone so young and honestly i didn’t give her work a fair shot since i was almost a 23 year old grown ass woman when dl came out and a week ago i listened to sour start to finish it was really solid and honestly timeless. that teenage angst that a young woman expresses can be a very universal experience and she encapsulates it really well.

    • @taylorgayhart9497
      @taylorgayhart9497 5 месяцев назад +50

      I completely agree! Guts may sound similar to her first album but it is also the clearly superior one too. I love her music and I’m a 34 year old woman, because she has a talent for speaking you the young women inside all us old ladies! Lol

    • @ohhoy713
      @ohhoy713 5 месяцев назад +29

      absolutely completely agree! not to mention, guts felt like a refinement of sour -- it was filled with more artistic lyricism, more crisp rhythm, and it felt like it had more of a definitive direction music-wise as well. and she really encapsulated the y2k trend, both aesthetically and sound-wise, which was super popular and trendy, but -- as you mentioned -- you can feel how timeless it's going to be as well. and it really shows a lot that olivia can do a similar sound, but also make it feel completely new at the same time.

    • @yuenmienyu
      @yuenmienyu 5 месяцев назад +12

      I definitely think sour got overplayed (that is not Olivia's fault), and because it only had eleven songs as a regular pop album, people can only make so much of her discography. I still wish she released a deluxe version of sour or released remixes of sour songs with other artists. that would've been so cool in my opinion, to collaborate with Conan Gray especially. whatever though, I was very happy with guts the day it came out and I still am listening to it regularly months after its release. people acting like she never improved or grew in terms of her sound is hilarious. she clearly amplified the pop rock, pop punk and alternative rock in her guts album, and it sounds great be cause her and the producer are interested in those subgenres and embracing Olivia's strengths. if Olivia released a ballad only bedroom pop piano album then they would be saying the same old things lmao. I was waiting for her to go rock and I'm so happy she did. ofc guts still sounds similar to sour because it's from the same artists, producer, etc. but pop rock is very versatile. not everything needs to be new, outstanding and experimental.

    Video-essayst fan and girl-dad here...I knew very little about Olivia Rodrigo when my girls started listening to her (2-3 years ago, maybe?)...and mind you, they're very young. I heard a couple of her songs on radio play and, yeah...not exactly my jam, but certainly great pop by any definition of the word. So when she announced her Guts tour, I did the girl-dad thing and decided to spring for it (not cheap). That concert was played just last week, and I'm not gonna lie...the tween energy from the crowd was UNREAL! My girls absolutely LOVED the entire performance...and while it's probably more the joy of seeing them go ballistic, I came away a fan. One really cool (and probably questionable) thing she did was she went around about a third of the arena to shake hands, take selfies, and even give hugs to fans in the first and second rows. THAT took some real...ahem...guts. It definitely kept her super-fans wanting more. 10 out of 10, would recommend. Oh...another interesting fact, both the opening act (for us it was Chappell Roan) and her band/dancers were ALL women! Only the roadies had a few men on the team.

    I actually became a fan of Sabrina in high school when I first heard her songs “Sue Me” and “Thumbs” and “Eyes Wide Open.” Four years after I fell in love with Sabrina’s voice and music, “Drivers License” blew up and I fell in love with Olivia because she’s such a talented songwriter and storyteller and she’s great at emoting emotions. When all that drama happened, I was pissed at the Olivia Stans sending Sabrina death threats and I didn’t think either of them did anything wrong. Olivia is allowed to talk about her feelings and experiences and Sabrina is allowed to date someone who is no longer in a relationship and wants to move on. I loved them both and was so pissed about how Sabrina was treated and I was worried about her career. I’m so glad the toxic Stan’s woke up and grew up. As a longtime fan, I love seeing how Sabrina matured and evolved musically. I want to see them both in concert so badly!

When it comes to Sabrina’s music though I’d say she was still searching for her sound and style. She’s just now finally found it. She’s always had powerful vocals and had an incredible stage presence. I’d been waiting for a more personal album from her for awhile. You could hear though from the Singular act I & II albums that she was getting there. Her music’s always been good in my opinion. It was a matter of time before she blew up to the mainstream. 1. LOVE Sabrina Carpenter! I started legit listening to her music after watching Nonsense outro compilations
    2. I absolutely agree. I'm don't think artists need to or should "rebrand" or drastically change their sound with each new project. Everybody wants growth, often meaning change or evolution, from an artist and I don't think it's necessary. I recently watched a video about Victoria Monet's Jaguar "era" and though I loved the video and the thought put into it, I couldn't help thinking to myself "what 'era'? We're still in it. Jaguar is 1 EP and 1 album with a relatively small tour like let Victoria Monet breath." In Monet's case in particular I don't want her to change her sound or rebrand nor do I think it's necessary. I think she's one of the few mainstream artists out right now who are blending throwback trends and sounds in music with contemporary stuff to make their own unique sound.

    Genuine question, people keep saying Olivia did apologies to Sabrina and trying to stop the death threats, but when I ask for evidence, they don’t give. I even tried to search it up but I can’t find it.

    • @audioscience1986
      @audioscience1986 4 месяца назад +5

      How many times did Olivia mention that she couldn't write a song about someone she doesn't know when questioned about whether "DL" was about Sabrina? They even released a video showing that the original lyrics referred to a brunette rather than a blonde. Olivia approached the situation cautiously for two reasons: Firstly, as a songwriter, it's common practice not to reveal the inspiration behind songs. By explicitly asking people to stop sending hate to Sabrina, she would essentially be confirming the speculation. Secondly, artists typically avoid discussing rumors that aren't true because doing so would only encourage fans to pressure them into addressing unfounded claims.

    Love this type of content. Also, one of my all time favorite artists who is highly underrated it Alessia Cara. She kind of faded after straying from her more accessible singles from her debut album but has had two albums and an EP since that both hit just as hard. Amazing song writer that reflects her stories of growing up and being a young artist that blew up out of no where. Her voice is unlike anyone I’ve ever heard to this day. Plus she is the recipient of a coveted Best New Artist Grammy. I’ve seen her in concert three times and she sounds just as good live!!

    Sabrina is having a real moment right now. She's not exactly an A-list pop girlie, but she is showing promise, and what she puts out for her next album will determine if she becomes an A-list pop girlie or remains closer to a niche legend - which is totally fine, btw!
    Speaking of niche legends, my music recommendations are Weyes Blood, Caroline Polachek, and Natalie Prass (though it's been almost 6 years since that last album!)! And I also want to highlight the podcast Pop Pantheon, a great podcast that deep dives into the careers of pop stars and ranks them on a tier list.

I think the only thing stopping her from being “A lister” right now is the Olivia fans that still hate her and refuse to see her talent.
