I miss your channel. It's one of the best.
Thank you! That's really kind of you to say.
@@VintageOptiks Me too. Just throw something up to say hello..
Your channel is great and we are missing new content - one of the best - if not - the best channel about vintage lenses
Thank you so much for the feedback. I appreciate it. And sorry that I haven't uploaded anything in awhile. I've been working on a massive project and haven't had much time to get back to RUclips.
The internet needs you back A.S.A.P. 😀
Thank you! That’s nice of you to say. I would love to make some new content but I’m really short on time. Hopefully sometime soon. Cheers!
@@VintageOptiks Short on time means you ain't dead! How about a web site?
I miss these videos. They are just so good
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the videos.
Sir, retro style and consistency of presentations blew me away. Sorry, had to subscribe as I also appreciate and collect the long forgotten lenses that last for centuries and beat any modern plastic fantastic excuse for a lense.
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy the videos.
That's very cool bokeh. It almost gives a 'woven' texture to the background! Thanks for the upload!
You are welcome! Glad to hear you are a fan of the funky bokeh!
Oh that square bokeh is SOOOOO nice!
I want to tell you that i CONSTANTLY have problems watching your channel... Your the ONLY one. It just FREEZES after a few minutes. And if i fast forward, it will freeze again. I don't know of anyone else told you... I FRIGGIN LOVE YOUR WORK!!
Probably your connection or app, it’s never given me problems.
@@Photovintageguy it's REALLY ANNOYING. MY favorite channel and it's always a problem....
Yeah, I love the square bokeh from this lens!!!
Sorry to hear that you have issues watching my videos. No one else ever mentioned anything like this. As John W wrote here, it's probably a connection issue.
Glad you enjoy the videos. Cheers!
The Minecraft lens!
Yes! :)
I am fascinated how you come up with ways to adapt a lense...
Thank you.
You are wonderful photographer
Thank you so much!!
I only discovered this channel a few weeks ago, but I can't help but notice that there haven't been any new videos for quite a while now...
Hope you're well!
I love the retro esthetics of these videos.
Thank you!
Like many others I miss your channel, I'm planning on doing the disposable camera lens mod that seems to be going viral because of how easy it is and it made me think of you.
Thanks for reaching out. I'm sure you'll have fun adapting the disposable camera lens. Cheers!
@@VintageOptiks Ah! Alive as of 3 weeks ago. Just go out and shoot some cool stuff with a Konica and we'll be happy...
@sclogse1 Yes, still alive 😆
I’m getting ready for an exhibition in September so I’m very busy right now, but hopefully I can find some time to post something new soon. Cheers
Thanks for showing this lens adaptation. Very creative.
You are welcome.
Another fascinating lens. I’m so impressed with how take these old forgotten lenses and bring them back to life 👍
Thank you Matt! Really fun and unusual lens indeed. I’m always amazed at how good these old rangefinder lenses can be.
you should sell adapted versions of this lens. I think it is interesting but actually the adaption is not as simple as it looks :)
you need to come back i loved your videos
Thank you. I need to make a video update. A lot has happened since my last post.
So beautiful 😍 🤗👍
Thank you!
Brilliant and now my go to for cinemodding lenses like this. Well done and thank you.
You are welcome! I appreciate the feedback.
Another beautiful DIY project! Nice one!
Thanks so much!!
I always love your videos when you take a forgotten lens like this and adapt it to be used on a modern camera - I really must give it a try sometime. That square bokeh is so cool, I definitely need some of that!!!
Thank you Tim!! Glad you enjoyed the video. The square bokeh from this lens is definitely special! I love it!
Great video and a unique lens for sure. I always enjoy the puzzle of a vintage lens and it’s fun to watch you work your way through it. Thanks.
Thank you!
Looking forward for your new project. All the best bro.
Thank you!
I purchased a Minolta Celtic 135mm 2.8 this year. Unbelievably, i got it for less than 30 bucks on ebay, and got a fine copy. I had watched a youtube with a guy shooting some video with it in L.A, and he had a nice touch, following bicycle riders, shooting friends. He had a style. But I wasn't ready for the optics on the Celtic. Not for that price. And I own Fuji primes, like the 16 1.4, and the 90 2.0. It suddenly became like a favorite child. Crazy sharp at f4 with a Fotodiox Fuji adapter. Rendition wonderful. You still get of tons of subject isolation at f 5.6, as on a Fuji X body, it becomes pretty much a 200mm. I cannot recommend this lens any higher. I tend to bias the white balance to some warmth with it, and it compliments the lens extremely well. I watched your Minolta zoom review just minutes ago, and decided to drop by on your latest hoping you'll read this. GET THIS LENS. Hope all is well, love your Bond style, (Check out SOMA FM sometime, it's breaks between tunes are all quotes from Bond films) I made a short noir some time ago. It was great to have my background in film scores in my head to help me think of style and editing. If that makes any sense. Here's the film. ruclips.net/video/CwQ84VaeJ-s/видео.html
That's great to hear! I love Minolta's lenses. I have the Rokkor 135mm f2.8, and from what I've read, a lot of the Celtic lenses used the same optical formula, but were housed in cheaper bodies. It's a great lens for sure!
I just watched your Bum Rap video. Excellent work! Thank you for sharing. I love the film noir look and black and white movies in general.
Side note - I spotted a Rolleicord in your movie in the scene of the man looking trough a book and falling asleep on the table. Love that camera!
Cheers!
@@VintageOptiks Thanks for watching! I should add, that it's SOMA FM- Secret Agent I was talking about. I recorded hours of it about 16 years ago. Big fun music...all instrumental. The Rollei was my fathers.
Nice find. Keep it up
Thank you.
more DIY stuff pls :P
You got it. :)
Excellent Video! I have a bunch of broken cameras I was going to sell in an "as-is" lot but now I am going to keep a few for these type of projects. Thanks for the video!
Thank you! Definitely try adapting some of the lenses from your broken cameras. The lenses on a lot of these old rangefinders were superb!
@@VintageOptiks I have a canon af35 ml I was hoping to get working but there was corrosion in the battery chamber and no power still. It has a 40mm 1.9 but it’s a point and shoot. Not sure if I can take a similar approach to that camera.
The problem with autofocus point and shoots is that they don’t have manual control for the aperture on the lens itself. That’s why I only adapt lenses from old rangefinders that have all manual settings. Unfortunately many brands started making automated cameras and the manual settings disappeared. You can still adapt a lens like yours but you won’t be able to change the aperture.
@@VintageOptiks for sure. I was thinking of using an m42 adapter with an adjustable aperture, but I don’t see any for sale anymore. Maybe I imagined it! Ha,
I’ve never seen those but maybe someone makes them. It’s a great idea if they don’t exist yet.
Hi, love this, great idea. I have decided to have a go at this myself but have come across an issue with the m42 to RMS adapter. Mine seems to be much bigger in diameter. Could you tell me the adapter I will need?
Thank you
Hello and thank you! I have listed all the parts that I used for this project. You can find them in the description of the video. There is a link for the adapters you are looking for. Cheers!
great video & photos for a small lens. will this work on my Panasonic gx1 model if so what mount would i need. thank you
Thank you. I appreciate the feedback. Regarding your GX1 - your camera has a micro four thirds mount. So in this case you’ll need an M42 to Micro four thirds 17-31 helicoid adapter in order to use this lens. But I’m not sure they make such adapters. You need to check eBay and see what you can find. Cheers
awesome contents. have you by any chance had experience with JC Penney 135mm f2.8 on APSC?
Thank you! I haven’t tested the JC Penny 135mm f2.8 so I can’t say how it will perform. But I’m sure it will be quite good. Many vintage 135mm lenses are excellent performers.
Great work! Do you have a chance to make a video list of the lenses that you have used so far and that you like the most among all vintage lenses? There are so many options and I think such a list would be great for those who want to collect the best ones.
Thank you! I think such a list can only be created once I've tested all vintage lenses under the sun :)
@@VintageOptiks I meant just the lenses you like the most among the ones you've used. :) There is no need for a new video, just a playlist (top 5 from the existing videos on your channel) based on your experience would be nice.
Really interesting results!
How do you come up with these adapting methods? They same a bit different for each individual rangefinder lens
I would love to try something similar, but all I have available locally is the Minolta hi-matic E, F, and 7, alongside yashica electro 35s
Thank you! Very unusual rendering from this lens for sure!
The adapting method varies from lens to lens. This Rokkor was particularly challenging, because of the loose aperture ring and the odd thread mount on the back of the lens. But I managed to figure it out. The goal is to adapt each lens in a simple way, without using power tools or machines. Each lens has its quirks, and some are easier to adapt than others.
@VintageOptiks I really like your videos. Any plans to release new ones soon ? :)
Thank you! I appreciate the feedback. I'm currently getting ready for an exhibition in September and I have a ton of work. So not much time for new videos unfortunately, but hopefully I'll manage to release some shorts. Cheers!
Love your diy doing! Did you ever restore an mirror Lens?
Thank you! No, I haven't restored any mirror lenses.
@@VintageOptiks Currently looking for instructions on how to disassemble the primary mirror to clean. Haven't found anything on RUclips yet. Do you have an idea?
Left of field question, but what music did you use for your opening and chapter intro? Both of those songs have such a cool tarantino-esque sound.
Unfortunately I have no idea who made the tracks. I only have these little snippets and they weren’t labeled. But I agree, they are really cool!
@@VintageOptiks no worries! Though I was hoping for a couple tracks to add to my next super 8 reel haha. If only they were long enough to use shazam. That chapter intro track is killer!
Interesting adaptation. Great work! I adapted both the Olympus 4,2cm lens and the Taron lens, well not exactly the same Taron lens but close enough.
Thank you! That's great to hear that you also adapted the Zuiko 4.2 cm and the Taronar! I hope you are enjoying them.
Really great channel man! Just stumbled upon it. But... no newer videos? Did you abandon the channel or do you plan to do some vintage lens reviews in the future? Wish you all the best!
Thank you so much! Glad you enjoy the content. I haven't made new videos for several reasons, the main one being that I started shooting only on film. I built a darkroom and have been developing my negatives and making prints. I absolutely love it! I do need to make an updated video because many people have asked me to continue the channel. Hopefully I'll find some time in the near future. Cheers!
I got an old russian lens for night vision devices, an 100mm f1.5. ¿Do you have any video on that? There isn't too much info about this rare lens. It have m42 mount
Sorry, but I’ve never tried that lens. It sounds very interesting though. If it has an M42 mount it will be very easy to adapt.
This video was published a while ago - but I'm wondering if the parts from a Minolta Hi-Matic E would be roughly similar once you harvest the lens and if the aperture ring re-assembly would be similar. The lens in the Hi-Matic E is a 40mm F1.7 and would be larger in diameter. Not as large as a Minolta early Hi-Matic 7 or 9, but still larger than this one from an Autopak 700.
Hi, I haven’t tried adapting the Hi-Matic E, so I can’t say if they will be similar or not.
@@VintageOptiks No issues, I have one and will let you know after I try it this weekend. 🙂 For that matter I have a Hexanon 47 f/1.9 and a Yashinon 45 f/1.8 I also have underway which I am trying to re-mount to M42 per your videos. Many Thanks!
Sounds good. I hope you manage to adapt it. Minolta made so many great lenses and I’m sure that the one from the Hi-Matic E will be fun to shoot. That’s great that you are also planning to adapt the Hexanon and Yashinon rangefinder lenses. Good luck and happy shooting!
Hi, how are you ?
Lost the inspiration , or have'nt met new extraordinary old nice lens ?
Cheers

Buona serata..chiedo se possibile sapere le marche dei riduttori se vi sono su Amazon grazie infinite
Do you know what is the diameter of that mount thread on the back side? Maybe we can find an adapter that will fit it
I suspect it's a D-mount
@@roman9509 Sorry I don't know what size is the diameter.
Oh! There is "Seiko" label on the bottom of the lens when it's on the camera. What did Seiko did there?
Seiko made a lot of the shutter mechanisms for many lenses that used leaf shutters back in the day.
@@VintageOptiks never knew. Thanks)
Are new videos still sxheduled? Miss your videos.
Unfortunately I don't have much time to work on new videos at the moment, but hopefully I'll release something in the near future. Cheers!
Just wondering: have you come across lenses that after testing you deemed unworthy of their own video?
Oh absolutely.
Wonder what IQ would this lens produce on a APS-C digital camera...
I used it on my Sony a7iii which allows me to switch between full frame and APSC. And since this lens was made to cover smaller film size, such as 126, it was definitely better when used on APSC. It's a fun little lens, especially if you like experimenting.
@@VintageOptiks If I find one, I'll give it a go.
Miss your videos hope all is well?
Thank you for reaching out. All is well.Just been incredibly busy, but I do want to continue making videos soon.
Hey brotha, you doing okay? Haven't heard from you in a while.
Hey friend. I’m doing alright. Thanks for checking in with me. Sorry that I haven’t released any videos in awhile, but I’m working on a really big project and haven’t had much time. Take care.
@@VintageOptiks just glad to hear you're doing okay. Is it a project for an upcoming video, or more of a personal life project? Either way, I hope your big project is coming together wonderfully! :)

Do you offer lens repair services? I need my m42 takumar and Pentax lenses cleaned and stuck aperture repaired
Sorry, unfortunately I'm swamped with projects at the moment and can't offer lens repair services. But there are some great repairmen out there that can help you. Are you in the US?
@@VintageOptiks Yes. I would really appreciate some recommendations on repair.
@@132indo Here is one that does a great job: www.rj-repairs.com/repairs

Yeah, I’m taking a break. Not sure when I’ll be uploading videos again, however I’m considering posting a video sometime soon. Thank you for checking in.
Hi! How come no more videos? Thanks!
Hello. There are several reasons why I haven’t made videos for awhile, but the main one is because I started shooting only film, and no longer use digital. I built a darkroom and I develop my own film and print my photographs.
@@VintageOptiks don't leave usssssssss. Your videos were pretty cool 😁. Funny, I just took my Nikon F4 out for the first time in months. I couldn't remember how to rewind the film and put a new one... I will do more film photography too 😉
@@jd5787 Thank you! Glad you enjoyed the videos. I wish I had more time to make new videos about film cameras and lenses and my love for the darkroom, but I don't know when that will happen. That's great that you took out your Nikon F4 for a spin! Film photography is super enjoyable and has a feel and a look that it's totally unique! Enjoy your time shooting film! Cheers!
