A new GH6 should have two USB-connections that allow power over USB and SSD recording at the same time or video over USB like a webcam. Probably they add a versatile connector for different add-ons that can be attached below the camera and this can hold an SSD or battery or additional USB. The camera would be usable as it is for run&gun but it also can be rigged up with SSD, external power for a whole day of shooting or for a full day of live streaming. This all could be done with much less cables and things hanging around.
I was wondering why there’s not split cable or adaptor that can do both.

I think it goes without saying that the next iteration of the GH6 should have PDAF. That's been a request for a long time from most content creators and low budget filmmakers. I'm guessing that the sales of the GH6 have dropped off since the S5ii/x came out. It's no coincidence that those two models gained a lot of attention. As much power and features the GH6 has, I would more likely grab the G9ii if I were to go back to M4/3. Personally, I'm more attracted to the full frame of the S5iix for its sensor and Panasonic look. But, the G9ii would be great as well.
On point. Real-Time LUT, Leica Monochrome and E-Stabilization would be huge.
As a GH6 user myself, I have to agree but disagree with some of the things in this video. Overall, GREAT video. I agree that the autofocus needs an update, the screen needs to stay (which the screen on the S5 II X pisses me off way too much), better battery life, and better IBIS.
I don't agree on the matching card slots. I personally love having the option of using both. I hate using an SSD on my rig because it's one more cord to bump or break, I can't use the USB port to power the camera if I'm using an SSD. It's one of my biggest gripes about the S5 II X because I like shooting to a CFexpress, and they aren't that expensive. I honestly use the GH6 more than the S5 II X for my production work because I find that the S5 II X gets in my way a lot with the design and lack of function buttons/customizability, etc.
If they kept the body how it is and added phase detect, better battery life and IBIS, improved the photo dynamic range, and made the camera a bit less noisy, I think that would be the ideal GH6 and I'd buy them.
I’d just add one more desired feature to your insightful list-dual native ISO.

@@harlemwoodstudios The GH6 has dual gain, cuz it's a video camera (Arri Alexa uses Dual Gain). Dual ISO is usually a thing for photography focused cameras.

lol i know this would never happen, but i would love them to pull a Samsung and have a buy back gh6 when the next version comes out. lol
Speaking of dials, I've been wishing (since the GH4) that the drive modes (single, burst, post focus, timelapse etc) go on the right dial, and PASM on the left. For a hybrid/video-centric camera to have 4 modes to take pictures but only one "Creative Video" mode that combines all 4 in the menu system really bothers me. I'd rather set my drive mode to M(anual) and leave it there.
Proxy recording with SSD and/or card slots is a no brainer update. If they don’t do this, they’re obviously abandoning the GH6. That is a feature specifically for professional use because of the redundancy.
Do you have a GH6 and which features are you waiting for to hopefully come to the camera? Panasonic is great at updating camera bodies, so fingers crossed the GH6 community gets another meaningful update! Let me know wha you'd like to see from a future GH6II or GH7.
I’d love to get wireless live streaming and live composite that gh5ii has, and maybe internal braw if I’m being super hopeful. And so much stuff that can just be added with firmware. Oh and maybe more fixes for the high contrast bright streaking issue
Dual native ISO.
I know we probably can't expect improved shadow noise or a lack of streaking, but if they could enable it as a webcam or with direct streaming (not through OBS), that would give the camera more usage for me.
I've got one, unfortunately bought it right before the announcement of s5ii, and I hold no hopes anymore on any significant updates to get rid of some of the most annoying aspects.
I would atleast like them to tweak the autofocus a bit. Also, everyone says the video quality is a little soft so i say sharpen us up a little bit.
As far as I'm concerned, the main advantage of the e-stabe in G9ii is corner warping correction. Godsend. Future features? Dual USB-C ports. One for PD, one for data.
I would love to see real-time LUT and live-view composite come to the GH6. Also, CAF in photo modes at more than 7 frames per second, which should be more than possible since it can do 60 fps CAF in video. Would also like to see firmware upgrades for the GH5m2. Haven't seen anything significant beyond what they promised at launch. For a new camera, a way to power it with a battery bank while recording to SSD would be incredibly useful.
I love the GH6 body. I hope they keep it for the GH7 but add a pdaf sensor, 4K 240p, and 5.8K 60p

Great vid mate! Still a fantastic camera. I do feel like the proxy functionality should come to the GH6. I think it’s powerful enough. I’m not a camera engineer though 😅
100% agree with you. Sadly Panasonic IMO isn't going to throw money or firmware updates at the GH6. Once they cut the price substantially they basically washed their hands. A shame as it is my favorite camera at the moment. I love love the ergonomics and the image quality and the slo-mo and basically everything about this camera.

I am not into the real-time LUT preview mainly because of the screen size and quality - just think if thats what your after than an external monitor is a better way to go - my 2c :). The Leica Monochrome Profile i would like on all Panasonic cameras but we are allowed to dream :)
The GH6 is still great if you use anamorphic or cinema lenses , but I have a suspicion that a G9IIX is about to be announced real soon ..
as the current G9II is an S5II body without the Fan .. which it desperately needs to be a full functioning video beast.

Phase Detect AF and XLR input would be all I need to stay with MFT. If not, I'll probably wait until an S1Hii like model is dropped.
One option im considering for my GH6 is getting the new Dji Focus Pro system as it seams it may fix the one main issue with the GH6 as you say its focusing system.
Im going all out.
GH7: PDAF. Internal braw, daul ISO.
A nice set of affordable prime lenses. 8mm, 12mm, 25mm, 40mm/ micro. All at 1.4...
With a special edition "creators case" label: " Lumix - Braw. Blackmagic cinema".

GH6 is still great, other than the autofocus. I would like to see open-gate 60fps & PDAF in the next GH camera.
I tend to shoot rock concerts so power my 3 GH6s from mains via the DMW-DCC17GU DC Coupler and shoot onto SSDs so car slots isn't a big issue for me unless the price of CF express cards miraculously suddenly freefalls. (I use battery grips for my S5, S5iiX and G9ii.
The big update on the GH6 and especially the S5, S5ii x and G9 ii I'd like to see is timecode via Bluetooth from either an Atomos Ultrasync Blue or the Atomos connect (or similar). If Zoom can do this then I'm sure Panasonic can.
Totally agree on the Leica monochrome Picture Profile, what a great fall back if concert lighting is a bit dull. And I'd love to see the Real-Time LUT added.
It goes without saying we'd all like to have Phase detection AF.

@@GeekyNerdyTechy When using a gimbal, the screen can be rotated easily when you connect the microphone cable and headphone cable. And I always take long shots in the field under the sun at 35-45 degrees celcius and it doesn't get hot at all. A7s3 fujifilm xt4, sony a73, canon r6, nikon z6 and z7 were all getting hot and I couldn't shoot. Sonyfx30 cropp 4k 120 baddd. Lumix s5ii and gh6 saved me. Sorry my english😄
The next version needs and will have, PDAF and open gate 60.
I`d be happy just to have the very same with just phase detect AF and the streaking issue fixed.
GH6 is great for handheld shooting with great IBIS, best slowmotion and body design. My wish for GH7 is that it should include digital VND plus PDAF.

As much as firmware updates are a good thing for consumers, you kind of have to also think in the perspective of Panasonic as a business, their M43 are not really selling that well anymore, the G9M2 kinda changed that, its been selling out everywhere like hotcakes in Europe and in Japan its constantly out of stock. But their full frames are moving much larger numbers.
I do hope that Panasonic wont be ending their M43 lineup, if anything they should pounce on OM Systems and revive Olympus brand and have that as a photographic centric lineup while the Lumix are all relegated to hybrids and video cameras.
I doubt they'll be stopping it. While the releases have slowed down the G9II was an unexpected gem of a M43 camera. I think there's most likely some great stuff coming.
I hope GH6s get fully abandoned by Panasonic so I can pick one up cheap on the used market :D Selfish, I know. But with PDAF the camera kinda of had it coming from the moment it got announced.
i sold my gh6 for a used g9ii, so i got that for free.. 😂 but man sometimes i miss the gh6! i can't really put my finger on why, but its just feels like the gh6 had... "heart". and the g9ii is kinda like a technological camera.

I own two GH6s, and considering getting a third one. However, I am also questioning whether Panasonic is a company I want to continue supporting based on the way they are treating me as a customer. Things like realtime LUT and proxy recording are just the basics, and if their attitude is that I need buy another camera for what the GH6 is more that capable of, then I’m not sure they’re a company I want to do anymore business with.

Panasonic are abandoning video to video cameras, as are Nikon and Canon...except their high end models. You can buy a Lumix S5 and be done for all your photography needs. Pisses all over the GH6.
