Part of the problem of Brit commentary (and this is bias, I admit) is there is a prejudice in British broadcasting for the posh pronunciation, as well as, not just the manner of speaking, and by that I mean the natural language of the speaker, but their choice of the subject of their commentary.) 'She's brilliant, isn't she?' Well, maybe she isn't brilliant. Why don't you just say 'she's brilliant.? It's really a form of small talk that has been, if not enforced, strongly suggested as a style of Brit broadcasting identity, or marque. I find it very annoying, as a 74 year old university library administrator who is devoted to scrutinizing how other English speakers around the world approach the problem of making meaning, and the accompanying nuances of language crystal clear to their auditors. It would have been nice if he could have pronounced her name correctly! And that aside, why wasn't he able to learn about some of the other runners besides the winner? Seems he's German, and was just bent out of shape that one of the few elite level German distance runners(Klosterhoefen) wasn't there for a major race in her home country.
World Athletics implemented rules requiring women who were born intersex like Semenya to reduce their natural testosterone levels with testosterone suppressants in order to compete in the 400m, 800m and 1500m events. Semenya won't take the drugs, so she can no longer compete in the 800m event she used to be so dominant in and decided to switch to competing in the 5000 which does not have a testosterone suppressant requirement. She competed in the 5000m at the recent World Championships and didn't do so well there either.
Since you mentioned her, World Athletics is a travesty for making Caster Semenya compete at longer distances where she's not competitive. Just because they think her masculine appearance makes it look bad if she wins a race. It wasn't her fault she was born with a rare genetic condition that made her develop more muscle and therefore look more masculine than other girls.
