This channel never disappoints
The fuckin spooky music made me laugh out loud
You have achieved the supremacy of cinematic chemistry. What a breathtaking video with such a fascinating material. Keep it up, your videos are indeed beyond awesome. You have blown my mind, thanks a bunch.
And has missed the point of his channel, CHEMSISTRY, not film making for the masses!
But chemistry is more appealing to the masses when presented in a film like manner. Consider this...a McDonald's burger tastes the same no matter what. But it just seems more tasty and interesting when presented like it is on the menu rather than how it usually arrives in the wrapper. :)
@@keithweathersbee1 But you see, without a fascinating object to be immortalized in the film, the filmmaking itself would be useless. The main and absolute idea of the channel still is chemistry, the video is afterall about a very extatic, complex and mostly peculiar reaction, which even some professional chemists dont know.
When I was a teenager, many years ago, I had a stick of white phosphorus that an amateur (adult) chemist gave to me (along with many other chemicals). To impress a fellow young chemist, I put a piece out onto the sidewalk in front of our family home and waited for it to ignite. The piece, about a cubic centimeter as I recall, smoked for about 10 minutes but never fully ignited. I decided to help it along by bringing a lit match "near" it; well that brought it to life. It spit and spattered violently but really didn't impress because it appeared as though I lit it on fire (after all, gun powder would make a bigger show). That night my parents were wondering why there were glowing green dots all over the sidewalk, The glowing dots lasted about another two nights. How did I manage to survive those early years! 45 years later, I still have the rest of that phosphorus stick.
Thank you for the beautiful video, an absolute work of art!!
What fucking crazy man hands WP to a teen?
No problems in the old days....
Nowadays everyone is pu55y about everything.
@@hinz1 I am not usually a Karen, but WP is pretty wildly dangerous.
Gasoline you could at least get off with a garden hose.
Around the same time I was given the WP, when I was about 15, I was also able to purchase chemicals through the local pharmacies. Chemicals like fuming nitric acid, hydrofluoric acid (all the acids really), mercury and mercury compounds, chloroform, carbon tetrachloride, just about anything really. Things were different then ( c 1975), we weren’t pu55ies for sure. As I recall, back then most pharmacies had BDH Chemicals (British Drug House) as a supplier and they produced laboratory chemicals as well as pharmaceutical chemicals.
@@xxxm981 sure, some chemicals are wildly dangerous, but so are matches, cars, high buildings and bridges, Tesla battery packs, propane gas canisters, it’s just a matter of knowing and respecting the nature of the beast.
God damn the quality is over the roof
I am generally curious in chemistry but the luminisence shot made me go WOAH!!
The music is sublime. Absolutely stunning.
This channel shows chemistry in a way no other channel can
Holy shit bro! Phosphorus producing ozone wouldnt occur to me in wildest dreams! And that glow really looked like a nervous system with electrical impulses!
I never heard about this before and it's amazing. After searching for literature I got this: P₄ could react with O₂ in air, forming an incomplete oxidation product P₄O and an oxygen atom. The oxygen atom is highly reactive, which could either oxidize another P₄ molecule or combine with O₂ to form O₃. P₄O could be oxidized in the same way and form a series of products up to P₄O₁₀. The radiation of the excited oxygen atom causes phosphorescence.
Mind-blowing stuff, my man. I have done nothing but practical chemistry for the last decade and I now have so many questions about oxidation of phosphorus with oxygen, it seems to be a very complicated interaction. Your cinematography is incredible, as others have mentioned.
glow is probably caused by molecules in excited state
P + O2 -> PO* + O* || O* + O2 -> O3
PO* + O* -> P02 + (hv) = light || maybe something like this hard to say what the intermediate products are
Yes, I was thinking similarly
the glow intensified under O3 flow. or did i missed something? i do apologize in advance since i have only basic chemistry level
your equation assumes O2 as input?
@@windigo000 maybe O3 + O* -> 2O2 ???
I've never seen phosphorus glow before, but it was worth the wait. Fascinating
Beautiful footage.
I've seen this enchanting glow many times since I isolated it, but it's never boring to stare at it one more time. What a nice video.
Just imagine Brandt's feelings after first unsuccessful isolations that ignited, when he finally caught the thing in water and later observed it shimmer with weird greenish-white light in air.
This deserves so much more attention, it's almost criminal.
Wow the glowing white phosphorus footage is so cool, this video has to trend
This is my favourite element! Phosphorus is so alive! Great video!
It's only a matter of time before this channel blows the f up! This is too brilliant!!
Amazing, as usual, the best chemistry footage available on the internet. Bravo!
The new angle you have on Chemistry videos should be highly decorated.. You sir are a genius.
How would anyone dislike chemistry after watching this video?
Phosphorus is gorgeous!
You keep getting better and better! Thanks!!
Yours is the pinnacle of chemistry photography. I have never before seen such richly detailed beautiful images of reactions. The soundtrack on this video was masterfully applied as well. Bravo on a real winning vid.
Thank you so much 😀
I think the black spot under O2 flow is just simple wind chill cooling the phosphorus' surface and slowing the reaction that way. Very weird that the O3 flow brightened it, perhaps the O3 is both a product and reactant of phosphorus oxidation. It could be a catalyst that speeds the reaction up and that would be another explanation as to why the O2 flow slowed the reaction, it was blowing away the O3
I'd check first, if the enhanced luminiscence isn't just a result of oxygen blow, no matter of O3 presence.
as a non-native speaker/estudent of english, I have some trouble understanding you, but the science part is always perfect. congrats.
The macro shots are just beautiful!
As always, awesome video, thanks for making it! So glad to see this channel has grown to it's current size!
i'm in love with white phosphorous from now
and your channel evolving even more
Thank you very much! Those closeups and slow motion captures are very exciting and stunning to watch. Keep it up!
That glowing phosphorous is one of the most beautiful things I have ever seen. Absolutely not hyperbole, I mean it. Absolutely stunning.
This is amazing channel.. Music, Close-ups everything is perfect.. Thanks Man🙏
Great video thanks for sharing I really liked the glow part looked awesome
So beautiful. Thanks for making these videos.
Wow! That's beautiful. Congratulations and thanks!
Somehow I missed the notification for this one, absolutely amazing work as usual!
2:00 most dramatic music for a piece of paper I’ve ever heard.
one of the coolest videos ive ever seen. keep it up!!
Thanks. You’ve combined the wonder of chemistry with the wonder of photography and brought it to us with style and skill.
KEEP IT UP. Such great content and it didn't even involve crazy reagents.
So many beautiful shots of the reaction and stuff I really didn't know about phosphorus. This was simply awesome!!!
Great video my man, your content improves every video, as others have said, the music really adds to the video, great choice.
Wow, this new editing makes for best quality videos!
This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful, cinematic AND informative chemistry videos I’ve ever seen. Beautiful soundtrack!!!
Great job with the overall composition! You really nailed the arrangement of the music together with the imagery! Also, very nice dramatic breaks in the narration which really emphasizes what occurs on the screen! With that being said, awesome content as usual! Looking forward to more dangerous reagents handled by an expert with a serious talent for the audiovisual flair!
Wow, that's so interesting.
I never saw how the phosphorous react with the oxygen.
Should exist more channels like this one.
2 bong rips then I watch this ... perfect absolutely stunning footage and informative. Your work is much appreciated.
Absolutely wonderful video!!
Great cinematography
One of the coolest videos I have seen in a long time.
That was incredible!!
Just beautifully composed. Thanks.
this is the most beautiful video i have seen on chemical reactions. love the audio and the voice specifically. if this video doesnt do well its because of the algorithm
Amazing photography man, really jumped up your game!
This is a really great video!💪💪
wow the glow looks amazing, i've never seen anything like that before.
Thank you for your amazing videos
Incredible footage !!!!!
That was pretty amazing. I enjoy all your videos but this one is just too cool!
This channel is the BOMB! And it just keeps getting better! The camera work and editing is beautiful! I'm not gonna lie... I do kinda miss the intro music 🎶 I used to jam out 🤣🥳👍
Incredible photography, well done.
this might be the best video i’ve ever seen on youtube
Incredible production quality mate, music topped it off. Keep this quiality up :)
This channel now, with all the high speed cameras and cinematography (plus the music) is like the chemistry equivalent of National Geographic.
Ah, phosphorus, my old friend. It's good to see you again. I may do another video on white/yellow Phosphorus. The last one was kinda.... Eh..... We need to make a lot and use it for something in a video. But what?
Generally speaking, people love to see explosions and 🔥, but I'm more interested in the soft chemiluminescent glow myself. 🤭😃🤭
Great video, congratulations.
Breathtaking
Incredible shots, thanks for the awesome eye candy!
This phosphorus lump glowing looks very much like some STALKER's artefact to me !
Amazing video
Most music on YT videos is annoying af, but this was perfect!
CRAZY shots man i lreally love the close ups
thank you man :D
Never stop!!!
Best chemistry channel.
Reminds me of a smoldering ember but electrochemicaly. Like the thinnest outer edges of the phosphorous oxidize fastest, emitting the phosphorescent glow
Awesome content and channel, it deserves a lot more subscribers! Video of phosphorus glow is really beatiful and the music complements it perfectly. Surprisingly, white phosphorus, being a strong reducing agent, produces ozone when oxidized.
Amazing Videography!!!
These videos are insane!!!! love it
More to come!
The quality of this video is off the charts!
What photography technique is this? Is it just a very low exposure?
That's some wild shit there
Superoxide or the like forming/decomposing and releasing light?
One thing that might be interesting would be to pour some liquid ozone onto phosphorus to see what happens to the glow. 😁
Loving the theramin music.
Beautiful video.
Love the spooky music when the phosphor burns.
New sub thanks to extractions&ire
Looking forward to your videos
Astonishing!
I was thinking white phosforous is horrible why would anyone want to have it.
The glow however is beautiful.
Love this video, loved the music but definitely the video too.
Still wouldn't want to have it but it's really beautiful, one of the coolest glows I ever seen.
I really like your choice of music
I think the patterns of light emission on the solid surface of the white phosphorous are from the areas that are free of phosphoric acid droplets (which are constantly forming and draining as the P4 reacts with air and the resulting P4O10 deliquesces in the presence of atmospheric moisture). Not sure about the ozone presence - there could be other active oxygen species present during P4 combustion - but it is interesting.
Great video and extraordinary channel
I did not expect to see that. Wow.
Amazing visuals and background score... And great content too.. Like watching some cinematic masterpiece..
If only chemistry were taught this way - makes it seem like some incredible magical power
love it. 👍
beautiful.
Exquisite music selection :D
Excellent editting
Thank you so much 😀
Gorgeous.
probably the same energy portion for ozone formation and phosphorus excitation state makes this glowing more intense, this would also explain formation of ozone near phosphorus, as energy quant can transfer from phosphorus to oxygen to excite it
Great video, thank you so much. Thus phosphorus 's luminescence actually is a chemiluminescence, isn't it?
So beautiful. What Alchemists must have thought.
Woah dood! So cool.
Amazing 😯
Great Video. :)
Chemical force is Hollywood of chemistry
Amazing
