That skull crotch piece is kinda Dreadnokish. I think if that yellow was a different color, he could’ve been a lot cooler, but I still used him as a Headman henchmen and he did the job well. I also may be one of the few who actually enjoyed D.E.F.
I also thought that the D.E.F. were cool when they came out in 1992. I ended up getting Mutt, Shockwave, and the Headhunter. Later, I bought the Battle Corps Bulletproof. I never could find Gristle in the stores back in the 90s.
This dude definitely would fit in with the Dreadnoks. The bloodshot shades and file card screams a mini boss from Miami Vice. It is great to see our favorite target Dr. Mindbinder back again for the missile demo. Great Review!

Be nice to Planet Demoncrotch- despite the name it's actually a very pleasant place, with many fine opera houses and coffee bars. Granted you don't want to tour them on a muggy July day, but yeah past that one issue it actually is a very nice world to visit if you're ever in the Hades Cluster

He's also the leader of the Headhunters not Headman. Apparently Headman met his fate. The Headhunters have been assimilated into Cobra as another one their armys.

Well I mean he already weird weapons, but weird post apocalyptic type weapons like a spiked frisbee or something. Maybe a bat with nails in it.
When I think of *gristle*, I think of the leftover meat splinters from a serving of barbecue (beef or pork) or a roast. The pieces that often get stuck in your teeth. I loved your review. I've never thought of him as the thug from the cartoon episodes, but then again, the action figure Night Creeper Leader is about 75% different from his cartoon counterpart. (The 25% is he uses the same pants, recolored.) The off-yellow color is Chartreuse, well-known to any college student forced to highlight notes and necessary passages in textbooks. The same color was also used on not-D.E.F. Law. (Excluding Law, most of the reassigned D.E.F. Joes share names with Hasbro's C.O.P.S. -- Bullet-Proof, Longarm, and Mace.)

It looks like the only reasons to get Gristle is if you grew up with the figure in the 90s, wanna bulk up your Headhunters group or a sucker for 80s to 90s punk designs. As it’s a pretty weird design at parts. I feel like they could have rewritten his file card to make him part of the Dreadnocks instead of Cobra, since DEF got scrapped. But to be fair, it looks like Hasbro at the time couldn’t tell the difference between Cobra and Dreadnocks most of the time. I think he might have also appeared in one of those 90s live-action commercials. For the Shark 9000, or something like that. That commercial definitely had some remnants of him and the vehicle originally going to be in the scrapped 2nd DEF wave. Also, Gristle apparently got released in the DEF line in certain countries. Did you notice the differences between the file cards of the US release and the foreign release yet? Nicely done video overall.
Great review. I still have this figure. He has a ton of character. I always use him as a bad guy, smuggler, kidnapper in my battle scenarios. I'd love to see a modern version of him.
Not only is Gristle essential for your DEF collection, he must also be consumed to finish off the Old 96er!

You should check the Brazilian version. Its has inverted colors, a more dark shade of yellow, and a maroon shotgun.
