The Forbidden Kingdom (Chinese: 功夫之王: Gong Fu Zhi Wang (Mandarin) or Gung Fu Ji Wong (Cantonese) and translated King of Kung Fu (English); Working title: The J & J Project[5]) is a 2008 wuxia film written by John Fusco, and directed by Rob Minkoff, and starring Jackie Chan and Jet Li. Loosely based on the 16th century novel Journey to the West, it is the first film to co-star Jackie Chan and Jet Li. The action sequences were choreographed by Yuen Woo-ping.
The film is distributed in the United States through Lionsgate and The Weinstein Company,[6] and through The Huayi Brothers Film & Taihe Investment Company in China. It was released on DVD and Blu-ray in the US and Hong Kong on September 9, 2008 and the United Kingdom on November 17, 2008. Rotten Tomatoes' critical consensus praises the fight scenes but says the film has too much filler. The Forbidden Kingdom grossed $128 million against a budget of $55 million.

@@jcrdnz7568Jackie Chan and Jet Li were actually close of working with each other in the mid 1990s. But Jackie Chan made a movie called City Hunter, which was directed by Wong Jing. Reportedly, Chan expressed his dislike of the movie and Wong Jing in particularly. Chan even went far as to speak ill of Jing and demanded the movie to be banned from showing in theaters.
Wong Jing responded by directing High Risk which stars Jackie Cheung as a character based on Jackie himself, and Jet Li as a soldier-turned stuntman allegedly based on stunt doubles Jackie has used throughout his career. Jackie obviously hated the movie and that put a hinder to him and Jet collaborating until 13 years later when they made amends and became friends.

Sometimes I think Jackie Chan would make more sense as the Monkey King because he's funnier, the crazy style of drunken boxing suits the monkey king's character in my opinion, but storywise in the movie it made more sense due to the silent monk being a clone of the monkey king or something and having Jackie Chan as a silent monk would be kind of a waste.

They're from "rival" stunt teams and have very different personal martial art styles. While Jackie almost always insists on playing a hero who only defends himself or others with violence, Jet Li has been more than happy to play every villain or hero that will murder you and our your family since the 90s. I'd also wager that Jet Li made his name back in China and Hollywood in his day while the Jackie Chan Stunt team wrote the literal playbook on Hong Kong action films from the 80s on.
The fact that JC represents drunken boxing here as he did famously while he was younger versus a clean cut Kung Fu master who purports to be a traditional monk that steals from travelers just adds to the fun.

Drunken fist fighting style is secretly the best art when the right person is performing it.

The fight was quite well designed with good continuation in the editing connecting the takes. The takes were long enough though abit too many takes were included resulting in a fight too long. Good to also see both of them doing most of the actual stunts.

I wished this movie was more popular. The ratings were pretty good, not amazing, but good. But I'll always hold this film near and dear to my heart because two of my favorite fighting actors scrap on screen. Just momentous.

A movie with a lot of potential. You have Jackie Chan and Jet Li in a movie together.
Unfortunately all the junk in the movie that doesn't revolve around Jackie and Jet sucks.
