"In there eyes, YOU are the savage." My favorite quote from this film and is so true. The theme I really appreciated about this film is how the wolves were actually more human than the humans were. The wolves do not bully someone to the point of suicide due to skin color, religion, sexual orientation, etc. The wolves don't belong to ruthless secret societies made up of the banker elite bent on bringing a New World Order at the cost of millions of lives and destruction of the Earth by way of WW3. It's a sad fact that humans often have proven themselves to be the most savage species on the planet. "Wolfen" -- a very underrated, but VERY powerful film.
They also don't set up charities for needy wolves of other packs, rescue and care for members of other species, or keep their own sick alive for decades even though it is a drain on them.
Very underrated "werewolf" film, even though there were no werewolves. It was just a pack of wolves with supernatural powers punishing humans in New York.

It's a great line, delivered well. As a guy who likes the outdoors and is a cryptid enthusiast, I can attest to the line's truth. Modern man has lost his connection to nature, how to listen, to see, and intuit what is there and what is not. The solitary, careless, and/or marginalized human can disappear in an eyeblink without a trace. It keeps the film grounded and unsettling.

It's not so much horror. It is more on the philosophical/psychological/metaphysical side. It is also too open for interpretation and debate. Most audiences prefer a black and white approach to good and evil and to be told what is what, what is good and what is bad, and what one should do about it.

I discovered this film a couple of years ago and just finished my third viewing. This scene put beside the Indianapolis speech in Jaws makes some of the best monster movie speeches. But these folk aren’t out for vengeance against wolves/wolfen; they worship the canines and know that once the wolfen decide on their prey, there’s no stopping it. Fear is the opposite side of awe and ties into worship more than most are comfortable admitting to, hence why most religious texts in the modern age are whitewashed. Ten times your Christian era? Forget it. When the first Viking stepped ashore on North America he was backed up by a million years of superstition and fear of he unknown. With the Spaniards came Catholicism with roots back to the worship; of Baal and Mithras. Our gods were fierce, bigoted and repugnant before the first "native american" crossed the Bering Sea land bridge.
The Vikings never set a foot in America. It was Columbus in 1492 sailing for the Kingdom of Spain. The Vikings didn't explore the mainland, they just sailed near the coast of America and they didn't acknowledge the existence of a new continent. The Spaniards ruled 3/4 parts of what is nowadays USA for over 300 years plus most of Central and South America. The English didn't start exploring the east coast of USA until the XVII Century, 100 years after the Spanish missionaries settled in the West Coast. Fact.
