Just purchased a 2011 328i coupe and I was looking for a video on something exactly like this for a screen installment! Great video 🤙🏽 And also for that lag during your music, I think it’s the “phone/audio” Bluetooth choice. Go to Bluetooth settings and turn off the phone Bluetooth, not audio (if it give those two options) .. then the lag should stop during your music for Spotify. Somehow that worked on my homies car, might be different but worth a shot if you haven’t figured it out yet.
Glad this vid could help! As for the bluetooth, I'll check it out. To be honest, after a few updates to the dongle itself the lag has decreased significantly, but still not 100% perfect. I'll update this if anything changes
Yup stock radio is still completely functional, you can do everything with it before the screen install. Just has to be AUX when using the screen's audio
Hey, are there any other similar models (this look & size) of this head unit that already has carplay? Really new into upgrading my e90 & don’t know exactly what name to search for, for this specific look of head units. Thank you! 😁
Not that I know of, I believe you'll need to buy a dongle regardless of what Android unit you have. At least for the 10.25" ones that sit on top of the dash like this. UPDATE: I believe the new Qualcomm units with Android 10 have carplay built in
I cant remember exactly, I believe in the settings app on the android i first selected AutoKit as the default navigation app and then had it open on startup, but i'll add another comment once I check for sure
You'll need the Android screen I have. Check out my install video of this unit. My car also had no screen before, just the normal stereo. As long as your car currently has an aux connection somewhere, this will work great. I use mine for Spotify through CarPlay. If you don't want the screen, check out a bluetooth aux adapter. Simple $15 solution to stream bluetooth music to your car's speakers
Jose Arias My carplay dongle is capable of wireless carplay as I stated in the vid, it just automatically connects via bluetooth and then wifi all wirelessly
Hi, I Need help with the following: This is what I discovered, every time you toggle from android side (I have android 10 snapdragon) of the unit to oem side, sound goes off and when you go back from oem to android and start the music app again sound volume is now controlled by oem gps volume slider on android volume setting. If you click on on application icon on android side, it goes back to volume being controlled by media slider. But still no luck in getting the music to stay ON between Oem and Android side when you toggle between the 2 sides, on PX 6 the sound would stay on.
Having a hard time following what you’re saying, but regardless I do not have the snapdragon version like you. I just leave my stock bmw unit on Aux, and that’s how the my android gets the audio to the car
hey Samuel can it work on my e93 m3 2008 im asking because I already have a 8.8 screen but the one you have is so much better do you think it can be done
Hey there, so AVIN USA, the company that makes the unit I installed, also makes a screen for cars like yours which already have the screen. It still has an 8.8" screen but it has the same functionality of the unit I have. I believe this is actually a newer version of what I have! avinusa.com/8-8-multimedia-navigation-system-for-bmw-3-series-e90-e91-e92-e93.html
This screen looks great!!! But it does seems like it tilts abit to the right (away from the driver). Is it just how it looks on the video? Kinda looking to buy one..
Hey! Trying to add this to my car but I was wondering how the audio quality is. I’ve heard some people were having quality issues because it connects to the speakers through the aux port. Do you notice any degradation in audio quality?
I have the old version and the unit lags ALOT like I’m talking on a daily music I’ll have music playing with Waze and the music will freeze along with the app? Is that fixed in the new one?
Mine doesn't lag at all really. Sometimes my phone (iPhone X) gets pretty hot and that slows it down, but that seems like the fault of the phone and not the system. All I can say is try and update the dongle and autoplay app to the latest version. They're pretty proactive with the updates, and I've noticed improvements in my ~6months of having it
When playing music does it come out of the cars speakers or only out of the android unit? If that’s the case how can you make it come out of the cars speakers?
@@SamAbraham Hi, one question: is your car equipped with logic 7 h-fi system? My car originaly had this system and it was swaped to RCA and I bought a multemedia like yours and I'm not sure if I'm gonna have to install fiber optic again...
Hello, can the CarPlay/AndroidAuto dongle charge the Android phone while plugged in also? I'm thinking of upgrading from an old Android head unit which doesn't provide enough current to charge an Android phone so I was curious. Thanks in advance!
I'm looking at getting an android screen with the CarPlay dongle for my BMW F30. So the dongle connects to the phone through bluetooth right so if I leave my bluetooth on, on my iphone, then start my car, will the apple car play screen load up or will the android screen load up or will the OEM idrive screen load up? Also, can I still make phone calls? I've read in the comments that someone was talking about a microphone?
Chris Morris So my car never had iDrive but it should automatically open to the android and then CarPlay will open on its own as long as ur bluetooth is on. You can still make phone calls, but the microphone on my Android at least is awful. My dongle has its one microphone but I leave it in the glove box so it kinda sucks. If you move the dongle to a more central area then it’ll be totally fine but I’m still looking for a solution to get better audio quality. For me personally I don’t make a lot of phone calls so I really don’t mind but if you do, I would certainly hold off for now. Although the newer android units may have a much better microphone setup, I do not know
@@cloudsurfing3900 No no, its a police radar detector. It picks up police radar guns used to catch people speeding. So if you happened to be going over the speed limit, it can warn you to slow down
Do you have to use the big microphone that comes with the unit when using car play? Installed my unit yesterday but haven’t connected that mic as if rather use the OEM.
Ryan Jones while i don’t think that large one is necessary, the android also has its own microphone on the side of the screen itself, so unfortunately it still won’t use the OEM one
Thinking about getting this for my 2011 e90, but have one big question. What have you done with your stock radio system right above the heating/cooling? I’ve watched all 3 of your vids on this new system, but the camera doesn’t pan down. Just curious what happened to the stock radio and such
Samuel Abraham hi Sam, have you figured out how to make sure your phone is getting enough charge and also sending data to the dongle? I found out the dongle actually doesn’t give enough charge to my iPhone, loses more than it charges. Any ideas?
My unit actually doesn't have 4G as I didn't need it. I believe the speaker you're referring to is actually a microphone. I found that it doesn't work very well so I'm planning on getting a generic usb computer mic and seeing if that works
so is your current system using an external mic, the mic from the dongle, or from your phone? If the external mic isnt good, I will probably want to use the one from my phone like with the aux. Also I have been hearing people installing a usb dac into the system and apparently it makes the audio a lot better. Do you only use spotify with carplay or also through the audio system itself?
Yeah so the mic isn’t great but there’s a place to plug in an external mic which I will do and make an update video about. I have the mic already just haven’t installed. You can currently use either the built in mic or the one from the dongle. The built in one just isn’t good really, and the dongle is in my glovebox so that doesn’t really help. I would be very interested in the USB dac, need to do some research. Yeah I really only use spotify through carplay which goes through the aux of the car regardless
Hey Samuel, what's up! I recently bought the AVIN 10.25” Qualcomm unit. Does it have built-on Wireless Carplay? If so, what do I do with the USB dongle?

Hey, just wondering can you skip tracks in Spotify within Carplay with the idrive controller that comes with the unit?
Tom Ziyue Zhu Yes you can! But overall the supplied idrive controller is kinda laggy so keep that in mind. It works just fine but not perfect
What is the device above your touch screen that’s sticking to your windshield?
Police radar detector :)

Samuel Abraham Thank you.
How is this holding up 2 years later? Any rattling or movement? Has the 3M tape started to look gross at all?
Its doing great, I've tracked the car, and abuse it in canyons and despite all that no rattles. I forgot I even used any 3m tape lol
I might buy a 2008 320i m sport but just has old sterio no screen nothing, would you know if this would fit?

Can you do wireless car play with an android phone?
Wireless Android Auto doesn't exist yet from my understanding unfortunately. Even a brand new car can't do that

When playing music does it come out of the cars speakers or only out of the android unit? If that’s the case how can you make it come out of the cars speakers?
The car's speakers, it goes through the aux input
