BMW 3 Series E90, E91, E92, E93 10.25" AVIN Android Infotainment Install!

- I install an Android 9.0 based head unit into my 335i Coupe. My car never had iDrive, and I've always wanted some sort of screen. You have to cut into the dash, which is a pretty scary thing to do, but I think it is worth it in the end. It makes the interior look more like an F chassis BMW. AVIN USA, the company that makes this unit, also makes a unit for vehicles with iDrive, although the screen may be slightly smaller in order to fit into the housing.

NOVEMBER 2022 UPDATE: Still working great! No issues at all, approaching 3 years too so this is awesome.
Any recommendations for installation
Hi is this android Radio with Touch Controll? I dont have idrive im my e90 😢
For anyone that's looking to do this, use a hot knife tool instead of cutting with a rotary tool. You won't have any mess/dust if you do.
What about hot plastic dripping on wires
@@aubreyward489 it doesn't drip at all
It's a good video, I can get some idea of what this will look like in the end, but mostly, this is a video of a dude installing a 10.25 Infotainment system, with no real view or demo of the finished product. It would have been great to get a completely finished look at the end, in some clear lighting, along with a demo of what this system can do. Thanks, I guess!
I have several other videos on the same screen regarding an overview of functionality, Apple CarPlay, MHD Gauges, backup camera wiring and so on. A couple of those would have appeared in the end screen of the video. The CarPlay video is linked in this video's description. Here is the additional overview video: ruclips.net/video/t8kBBTo8fY0/видео.html
Very well done, could you make another part with everything finished to introduce the features?
Absolutely, it’s already planned.
@samuel Abraham i'm planning to buy such an android system. I'm from germany but i ain't really sure if i wanna cut the dash ._.
But this screen looks so good and smooth
Dr.Kelso+ Yeah it’s definitely nerve racking but I think worth it in the end.
BRO HOW MUCH WOULD YOU CHARGE TO INSTALL IN MY CAR?? I WILL PAY AS MUCH AS YOU WANT BECAUSE I DO NOT TRUST MYSELF! LOL
Brave man cutting the dash looks as though it'll be pretty neat when finished. I'm thinking of fitting an Android system in my e92 but will need a different unit as I have a fitted idrive. Good video.
Appreciate it man! Yeah it was pretty nerve racking for sure. The same company makes one for cars like urs with the already fitted idrive, only difference is I think the screen is a tiny bit smaller. Good luck!
Hi guys.
This really is a great video, thanks for uploading! I'm watching a lot of this stuff in the last time and I want to install the same unit on my BMW 325xi.
Just a question: after the installment of everything... does it have any impact afterwards on the car electricity, car battery or in general on the energy?
Nope! Not at all for me. Thanks for watching!
Great work, thanks for sharing, i did 2 same models but had major problems fitting it that good. The instrument cluster side on my case was not fitting 100% was staying up for about 3-4mm
Did you ever get it to fit flush? Might’ve required a bit more sanding
@@SamAbraham no i installed some 2 sided adhesive tape under it an lifted the whole unit for 3mm, it looks pretty nice but i liked your work better than mine, which part needs more sanding the side or the lower part? I got another one to do on next weekend.
If you work with infotainments and such stuff hit me up on Instagram @autopassiongjk i might help you out on some things to, like parking camera modules Apple Carplay/Android Auto modules for different vehicles.
@@Jagogjk1 Ah I see. Try sanding the edge of the hole in the dash, that's what I did for a long long time. The stencil provided is very conservative. I've actually already installed a Carplay dongle and a rear camera in this, but I'll give you a follow if I run into any issues. I'm sam.amg.
this is why I'm still afroid doing this
3:18 was sick 👀
haha fr, maybe it was a coyote?! what do u think?
@@SamAbraham Maybe!
9:06 its a speaker for the unit. The chinese updated their Android system so it can still play out, if your car has no aux port. It was due to numerous customer complaints who bought the older units on cars without aux and they cant hear audio.
Also, it works very well when you are on google map navigation.. the navigation speaks through that speaker while you enjoy your music playback without interference.
Ah I see, interesting. Thanks for the info!
The round speaker is only needed if the car does not have aux in?
@@acefr8816 I need to know that too
@@moenaboulsi23 I don't think the small speaker does anything if your car has AUX in. It does not make any sound at all.
@@moenaboulsi23 The Google Map navigation outputs the sound from the car speakers and not the small speakers.
been thinking about this for a while...
Let me know if you have any other questions about it!
So dope thanks
Why would you wrap that beautiful brown trim man 😭😭 each to their own i guess
Maybe in a 7 series haha, but for a sporty 335i not my taste
Hey bro I just installed mine and noticed a frequency pop or click every 2-3 seconds over the speakers. Also the Idrive it came with the confirm/select button does not confirm instead it acts as a fast function Media button and goes to the media screen. Any ideas anyone?
Hey man, as for the popping over the speakers, that could be a few things. My first question is, does the popping sound occur at all times even when you're not playing any audio? Or does it only happen when playing music? I remember I had a little bit of fuziness when playing music, so I bought a ground loop isolator off amazon for like $10 (little box that intercepts the aux cord in the center console) and that seemed to solve my problem. As for the idrive controller, that is kinda strange, mine worked out of the box. Although I remember in one of the settings menus you could customize the function of some of the buttons on the controller, or at least assign certain apps to certain buttons, so I would try and explore all the settings pages.
Mine is on the way now, gonna be doing the installation myself next week!
Sweet! Hope it goes well. If u have any questions DM me on instagram @sam.amg
savage28g hi... did yours come with the white cutting template sticker, a cutting blade and the metal hanger in the package?
Peter Onuigbo Mine did, they are all supposed to
@@SamAbraham the seller did not include those in my package. I had to guess the right diameter and manually cut my dashboard using a red hot inflamed kitchen knife. It can out pretty decent.
Peter Onuigbo A shame they didn’t send you one, although i must say it’s pretty inaccurate and i had to cut a lot more than the outline suggested. Hot knife trick is good to know, wish I had thought of that haha
Really helpful video, going to order one now. I just have 1 question: Do the steering wheel controls work to change tracks or volume while using the carplay mode?
In my case the volume does work, but unfortunately not to change tracks. I have heard that the newer iterations of my unit have more capabilities, some even have track control but I don't know for sure
Thanks Samuel for the video. What wires did you connect the iDrive too? I have the same unit. Also there is 4 small metal tabs tabs on the bracket that you can bend to fasten the unit to the dashboard to make it more sturdy
Oh are you talking about the 4 pieces of metal on the bottom of the bracket? I’ll check those out make sure they’re seated correctly. And the aftermarket iDrive controller care witj it’s own harness that plugged into the main harness somewhere if I remember correctly. If not it was actually the back of the unit itself
Samuel Abraham Thank you. Looking forward to seeing more of your videos
I used a rotary bit not a cut wheel and there was no dust
Oh cool, how's the unit working for you so far?
Very very good video thanks
I have a 335xi non idrive like u pretty much & trying to decide between the Dynavin N7 Pro & this Avin. Worried about electronic problems though...how did it hold up for u bro? & u really gotta cut out a good chunk of the dash??
So far haven't had a single issue since the install, which was a couple weeks prior to uploading this video :)
@@SamAbraham Nice! I wonder If it could handle adding an aftermarket subwoofer & amp or would it be too much since theres already logic l7 system?
@@globaldayz To be honest, I'm not sure. It still utilizes whichever stock system you have in your car, (goes through AUX) in my case its just the BMW Professional system, not Logic 7. So I don't know if this Android based unit could really take advantage of that
Dynavin N7, you wont be sorry!
Thank you for this video! Inspires me to do it on my e90
Anthony Vannady If you’re prepared to cut the dash, go for it!
Is there an Apple CarPlay version?
All buttons on The steering wheel works after that installation? Phone button also?
Volume and all works. Phone works only if you use the original Bluetooth. I use CarPlay so I just used the scroll wheel or touchscreen to answer calls
Alright bud it's been 2 yrs how have you found it?
To this day no issues, its doing great. I've considered upgrading to a newer model with better resolution but I dont have a real need honestly
Hey Samuel thanks, this's a grate video I planning to do my this summer and I just want to ask you, how's the unit working so far?
So you have any issues?
Working pretty well, not facing any issues really. Serves my purpose of really just getting CarPlay.
I have a few questions if you don’t mind
1) did you get the additional auto play adapter or just bought wireless car play and plugged it to the given usbs?
2) did you buy the additional WiFi adapter?
3) did you add the optional aux splitter?
Rahat Hassan 1) Bought the Carlinkit wireless CarPlay dongle off of Amazon (cheaper) 2) No i did not 3) Nope
Hey, where did you end up putting the microphone you were talking about at 8:59 (also I think it's a speaker lol)?
hey i did everythign but when i tried starting my car up now there is no power to my radio like the radio won’t even switch on and the screen won’t turn on as well what do i do????
Take a shot for every time he said "uhh" "umm"
If you install the screen does the radio stil work????
Yup, just switch from aux to radio and everything works like it used to
I love this system,. Only thing is, I would like a professional to install it.
Good luck finding a profsessional that installs after marker head units who cuts dashes daily😂
Looks awesome..
Good job, you have a beautiful car.
Thanks!
How’s it holding up after a year or two of use? Is it still working well and not lagging? Very interested to know and would you still recommend? Great video btw!
Very happy to say its working just as well as it did when I first installed it, no random issues have popped up at all. The newer units have newer versions of android, but this version has remained reliable
Hi on the speedometers, tachometers on the screen how to I change it from gallons to litres showing the gas?
Great video. I notice you have an old school iPod Nano. Does the unit support direct playback from the iPod? I have just ordered a very similar unit and have an old iPod Classic that would be great to use with this!
Haha I actually used that before I installed the screen. I had the OEM iPod integration, and it was the easiest way to play my music through that system. I don't know if there's a way to use the iPod with the Android, I would not think so.
Hey Sam thanks for the video, do you think installing this radio can lose some visibility when driving ?
Not at all, I still clear over the hood and it hasn't been a problem over the years. Track/canyon driven and never been a problem!
I installed a Seicane Android 9 unit in my e93 and it sucks balls. No more ipod. Can't see interface for audio source, no more car diagnostics, can't adjust car information like clock etc. can't reset tires, etc... But... i left it in because I like the rear camera and wireless MHD, xHP, Carly ability as well as Waze. Audio speakers all jacked up...and most annoyingly...power drain error constantly because it takes 30 minutes to shut off after locking the car.
matreyia Wow that really sucks, thankfully mine doesn’t have any of those issues. I also still have the stock radio installed below so I can use the stock radio/ipod and all that whenever. But yeah the MHD/xhp/carplay/rear cam are all pretty big benefits with these android aftermarket units
So the aux out connects to the cars stock aux I am getting no sound
if you use mhd guages on android , you can listen to background music on bluetooth?
Correct, I usually have CarPlay running in the background while I'm using my gauges
I purchased mine and when it arrived, there was no white paper template sticker, no utility knife, no metal bracket in the package. So I’m left with the screen looking like ‘how the hell am I gonna cut and install this screen?’
Damn that's hella annoying... Where did you get yours from?
Great video. Used it for the installation on my car. One question where did you tap into for the reverse trigger
Actually made a whole other video on that, check it out. I used the reverse lights as a trigger with a relay directly to the battery for power. If u have an auto trans, you should only need to connect the red wire to the head unit for power, and the rca cable.
Should be canbus triggered
Hi Samuel, where did you end up putting that big round microphone? Did you put it under the the dash near the vent like you mentioned in the video? I am not sure it can pick up the voice there...
Never mind, I just saw Peter Onuigbo
comment and that round thing is a speaker. I will put it near the driver side footwell.
michael wong You can actually unplug it as i have never heard it do anything haha
Ciao dove posso comprarlo per la mia bmv e 90 e se possibile in lingua italiana grz tanto . E da tanto tempo ke cero di comprare questo prodotto mi risp x favore grazie tantissimo un sito italiano

I just checked and AVIN has free shipping to Italy. The link is in the description. Thanks for watching!
Great video man, I love the end result, I have a e92 with a already fitted cic, is there a product for mine? And if so could you maybe link it for me? Thank you.
Glad you liked it, they do make one for cars like yours, however the screen is not as big. Much easier installation though. Here's the latest version: avinusa.com/8-8-multimedia-navigation-system-for-bmw-3-series-e90-e91-e92-e93.html
I need the same screen for my 323
I have done that, but i don't know what to do with the original radio, cuz it's really bothering me
I actually still use the original radio every now and then for listening to FM or AM channels haha
The dremel made a mess. I am thinking using a jigsaw to cut the dash. Not sure about cutting the curve. Do you think it will work?
michael wong I don’t have a jig saw so I honestly wouldn’t know. Dremel absolutely made a huge mess but it’s what I had and it still worked at the end of the day. If you’re comfortable using a jig saw you could use it for the longer edges. Not sure about the curves though
What I wanted to know finally came at the very end. Will it accept the MHD dongle and software? LOL.
Yeah, I've got a video on that specifically actually lol. I use the wireless mhd adapter with this unit for datalogging
Hi, on the back of the original wiring harness I have connected a line output converter for a subwoofer. Will that continue to work once I plug in the original harness into the back of the new one and then into the stock head unit?
I’m trying to get the screen to go straight to the MHD app when I start the car. Any ideas?
Yo Sam! So the factory bmw head unit has to be working to install this? Cuz mine is dead and I don’t wanna get this and then find out that it need to be working haha
What’s good man, yeah you’ll need the aux input on the stock unit to work unfortunately. I think there are some other android units that actually replace the entire stock unit and have a screen in that lower location, so u might wanna look into one of those
@@SamAbraham damn :( alright bro thanks I appreciate you! 🙏🏾
@@Sonicboom2469 Yeah of course, best of luck man

Hi...you have installed the microphone?
My e93 has a cup holder where the iDrive controller would be...doesn't look like its the same shape as the controller. Did you have to cut the trim to fit it in or do you have video on that part of the install?
Craig McCleary I didn’t have to do any cutting as I don’t have any space taken up by the convertible controls. I don’t believe the idrive controller is compatible with E93s
Hey,
is the 1280x480P version ok or do you think I should order the 1920x720P version
I would get the 1920x720
Will videos play while your driving or only in park?
Nope, they'll play at all times
Thanks for taking the time making this video. How did you connect the rear view camera? Did you have to connect to the reverse lights in the back? How about at the unit, is it just the rca for rear view and 12v red wire?
Also I have aux and the Karman speakers. do i have to run that aux wire and plug it in to hear sound?
moe naboulsi Yes you do have to run that wire to the aux port in the center console. As for the rear camera, I’ve made a couple of videos on it. If you have an auto trans it’s pretty simple, RCA and the red 12v for power at the head unit. If you’ve got a manual, watch my more recent video on the camera. Glad this vid helped!
Thanks for the prompt reply. I have an auto. I get the the part that connects to the unit. Only red and rca. What about the red wire in the rear at the trunk?
moe naboulsi With an auto you can ignore the red and black wires, I just ziptied them and tucked them away while my car was an auto
I hooked up the rca and red wire to the camera and it didn't recognize. Do I have to plus the camera harness as well. Also music wasn't coming out with aux cable
moe naboulsi I made a couple videos on the camera, the older one should apply more to you as you have an auto, so Id check it out just to make sure your wiring is correct, and that the software is configured correctly. As for audio, as long as your original head unit is set to the aux setting, you should be able to have all audio from the head unit come through. If not, some wiring is off
Any issues with the sound quality?
Nope :)
Nice job!
Does the factory Bluetooth phone still work using the factory mic and speakers ?
I should try that actually. Microphone is pretty bad on the current system and I’ve been looking for a solution
@@SamAbraham can you let us know if you can connect to the factory bluetooth to make and receive calls? Thanks!
Hey there, was experimenting with that and found that calls default to CarPlay. I will be looking for an external microphone solution
Hello nice diy, how did you route the sound ? straight through the aux ? Any hissing ?
Thanks! Routed the Aux cable for the unit below the lower center trim, and plugged it into the aux. No hissing at all, however if you do have any, a $13 ground loop insulator off amazon will eliminate that
Hey sam I cut my dash according to the stencil and sanded down some more for a better fitment. The right side sits perfectly but the driver side sticks up a bit. I sanded that area (driver side) down more but still no luck. Do you have any tips I would really appreciate it!
Hey there, yeah so mine has never fit perfectly on the driver's side either. I could put more time into it, but I guess I was just satisfied with where it ended up. Other then continuing to sand for a long time to perfect it, there's not much else I would do really.
@@SamAbraham Okay thanks for the response

Reset to factory settings? Never had to do it myself but I assume go to the settings menu and there should be a reset option toward the bottom of the list
Hi, I Need help with the following: This is what I discovered, every time you toggle from android side (I have android 10 snapdragon) of the unit to oem side, sound goes off and when you go back from oem to android and start the music app again sound volume is now controlled by oem gps volume slider on android volume setting. If you click on on application icon on android side, it goes back to volume being controlled by media slider.
But still no luck in getting the music to stay ON between Oem and Android side when you toggle between the 2 sides, on PX 6 the sound would stay on.
hey there, I think I'm having a hard time understanding your question. I have the PX6, I just leave my car on the Aux setting and I don't have any problems with sound cutting out. Seems like you have some software issue related with the Qualcomm snapdragon version. I would contact whoever made your unit if you haven't already

It’s been awhile but I’m pretty sure I just removed some insulation at the back of the compartment and shoved the wires back there and it all kinda just fit. Took some time to get it all in there properly for sure but it kinda worked itself out. Persistence and patience was key with this
