holy shit this actually clicks it for me. till now my fry scream has always either been there or not, but when it wasn’t I just couldn’t jump into it. this sort of gives me that bridge that I can always use to get in touch with that sound, if that makes sense. thank you! I’ll try using this again.

I can't grasp what's happening here. I can do the fry all day long. But when you push into the fry scream, it's like you're doing something different. Like some mechanic that i don't know, and the hope is that i accidentally stumble into it, but i haven't yet. So I'm just doing a high vocal fry sound, but that's definitely not it at all
Yeah, honestly when I come across videos like these you can, a lot of the time, hear these vocalists go from the fry vocal register to completely somewhere else _(sometimes arguably using their false chords once they start pushing out and projecting)._ Most of the time they're not even using their fry vocals anymore at all and in a way sort of just use it as a starting point and not as the end goal to achieve the scream, if that makes any sense. Which is in my opinion is why so many people like David can't seem properly articulate what's _actually_ going on in their throat, like almost at all, without needing to result to using these weird examples and "tricks" to get across what they're doing. At this point it's what I believe why this style of screaming/harsh vocals have been so illusive and _(at worse)_ misinformed for so many years. I honestly feel that many of them shouldn't just regurgitate the same approach they've seen that so many other videos have done, and maybe start to reevaluate how they try to teach others on what parts of their body and voice they're _actually_ using in a more concise manner.
@@halfdarkshadow yea. Well and that's the thing too, pretty damn sure the general description of a fry scream is not true at all. I've seen people get scopes put down their throats, and do different screams, and "false cord" and "fry screams", look mostly the same. The false folds squeeze in over the vocal folds, and that's where the distortion comes from. It's not coming from the vocal folds at all. But at that point, I'm not sure what the difference is exactly 🤷🏻♂️ all the same, from what I've heard, learning Khoomei is the best way to learn it, if you haven't been able to accidentally discover it through normal tutorials. So that's my next move
I think what we call “fry scream” isn’t just pure fry. The false cords are obviously involved. It’s impossible to stay into fry register once you start getting louder. Fry scream is in fact false cords plus a high pitched note beneath it. As you pressure the false cords it interacts with your actual vocal folds in such a way that they almost automatically go into fry register. You then have both sounds at the same time but what’s hard is to find the right balance between the sung note and the false cords pressure. It should never be louder than singing above average level.
ok, so i LOVE this guy and his content is stellar. Im really glad it works for other people but im still having so much trouble. I can easily do the lazy voice vocal fry, I can even do it where you go higher up in pitch. but literally every time I try to actually add power or volume, my voice just cuts out, it cuts off like someone just flipped the switch inside me deciding im not allowed to go any farther. I can also do death growls really well with false cord method. any ideas? Im at a loss and very frustrated because I wanna push my ability farther
At least you can do false chords. I can't figure out either. There's some kind of muscle shift or movement that no one can explain and until i randomly do it on accident, i won't know what it's supposed to feel like, so i can recreate it
I always wanted to sound like David Draiman of Disturbed when he uses vocal distortion. Is there any way you could analyze a song like Stupify or Shout 2000?
I'm having a hard time figuring out what I'm targeting. I got my guttural false chord, but fry is higher than I want. Any tips for mids? It's like it's too high for false chord but too low for fry!
Change the starting pitch! Also keep in mind that with the fry scream the distortion is going to be higher frequency sizzle where the false cord distortion is going to be a lower rumbling sound so you may be thinking that the scream sound higher than it actually is but in a mix that sizzle is what gives the scream life. Also pay attention to your mouth shipping because that could be making the scream come out higher than intended.
@@ExtremeVocalInstitute FINALLY cracked it! I was trying and pushing WAY too hard, now I'm at the point where you talk about allowing your voice to be unstable and cracking. Just working through that but my false chord officially has full range, guteral to highs! You're an AWESOME teacher, thank you so much for all you do!
I can do the lazy voice but when i mix it with the shouting , my throat almost seem like it declined its existence like nope , im not part of your body .
Is your throat supposed to get scratchy the first time you do something like this? Cause from my perspective we're doing basically the same thing, but I'm not sure if it's supposed to hurt a bit in the beginning
I can get the lazy voice sound but only when I talk soflyy the louder I talk I can't do it. If I compress my throat I can still get it slightly but I'm scared I'm squeezing to much, I feel like I'm not supposed to compress.lol
My fry scream sounds pretty good tbh but I have one issue with it, when I try to hold it for long then I get so much pressure in my head its like I will pass out pr if my head would explode litteraly and I don't understand why because I'm not pushing it that hard.
Could be happening for a few reasons. You may be pushing harder than you think, you may also not be pushing enough or constricting the throat so you’re cutting off air, without seeing a video it’d be hard to determine which it is but what you’re experiencing is oxygen deprivation so focusing on how you get to the sound initially is going to be how you fix it! @@ExtremeVocalInstitute Thanks a lot, those videos helped tremendously and yes I found out I'm probably constricting the troat however it was confusing because I was actually getting the sound I wanted but I guess I was getting it the wrong way.

I know that i am doing the different things get the screams, but it sounds to similar. I know about starting pitch. And my voice does not hurt after trainings. But i am still not sure.
It’s possible you’re getting a combo which is why it’s hard to tell the difference, that’s super common!
