@@MohammedAgbadi Think of the typical art reposters who don't credit artists, from any social media platform, like Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, etc. Usually they repost the art and either claim it as their own, or don't bother to credit the artists, but I've noticed TikTok art reposters go farther than that.

And when the animator find out the mess he got very angry and call out his subcribers to take down the videos of his animation on Tik Tok which got steal.
And in exchange in the most of his animation in little detail he hide in the background his anger on Tik Tok.
And if my memory doesn't get wrong, he also made a animation of the Tik Tok logo who get bullied by some pokemon (Cynthia team I think) x)

Feels like teen/tween problem more than a problem with artists at large. We WILL see this over and over again by the way, because though almost all the problem users now will eventually learn, each new generation will need to learn these lessons.

The thing is, it's not just artists. It's also the viewers who bully others' art. in my experience, most online bullies who are trashing new beginners' art aren't even artists. Which i can easily tell by clicking on their profile. So in genuine, it's not just artists, and mind you those artists are often egotistical, it's also art viewers with way too high expectations or preferences who can't keep to themselves and bully new beginners for not having the skill of someone who worked on art for 10 years or smth. Cuz any sane artist would never bully a new beginner's art when they also went thru the phase of being a new beginner. Like, think about it, most of the sympathetic comments who defend the artists are WRITTEN by artists. So artists are standing together, but there are a few rotten apples because of course there are.
sorry for the rant, but I just sort of disagreed with the message of the joke. Ai is such a big problem because of the consent issues. It's like using others' art and feeding them to ai without even permission. It's just horrible. It has the potential to be a helpful and fun tool but with the number of moral issues and etc, it's harming artists more than it is helping them. In the end, it's not even art, it's just generated images. I don't get why they can't just PAY for the art or at least ask for consent. It would still be profitable if not more and it would actually be a FAIR business that can actually be used by companies as tools and etc without worry about copyright. Sorry, it just genuinely fuels me.

i always hate how people keep saying that art has to look 'realistic'. like we get it u like realism, but this is our art, not yours. we can draw however we like, it's our art style. art is where you express your feelings, art is about expressing yourself, not pleasing others.

I've always had the mindset of: whenever you see a new artist just starting out, give them a simple compliment! It's not hard to find something that you like about someone else's art.
A simple "hey, are you open to/looking for criticsm?" Is sooo much better than just being passive-aggressive about "this looks good BUT xyz, etc."
people tend to be unaware of how much more simple insults or simple compliments affect starting out artists than artists with fanbase. its also sad seeing small artists being trolled on just for fun because if they dont have multiple people to talk about their art in comments (for example) it hurts them much more than you think

When I started posting art on my old 2013 channel, because I never got comments, I would comment on my own video saying variations of "I suck at art" "I'm bad at animation" nobody should be pushed to say something that severe to themself, and in turn be so negatively affected by things. Kids are also so much more sensitive to bad criticism and mean comments. Like I was.
tiktok also has a major problem with respecting artists. people exiting art to make pfps when artists blatantly say “i dont want people to edit my art-“ and then edit the artists artwork to make really bad edits.

@@erimationss That's what I was saying! If someone wants concrit, they generally ask for it and people are acting like it's somehow constructive to give unsolicited criticism and even downright bully when sometime people just want to join a community of artists and have fun.
+ There is no rule saying one has to aim to improve on their art in the first place; I think most of us aim for improvement, but that doesn't mean getting angry at those who don't. It's so weird to make other people's progress your own business like that. Like why are they obsessing? So much of Internet BS comes down to: Let people enjoy things.
@@erimationss I remember browsing Pinterest and found a cool artwork, just some small cartoony one (their style) only to find some VERY, VERY passive aggressive "constructive" criticism. Along the lines of: The hair is way too bouncy, shading is unrealistic and too pink (???)
I also saw a drawing of some dst concepts and literally everyone was saying the shading wasn't done right 💀 big difference between wanting criticism and not wanting it.

Yeah, everyone has different art styles with different experiences, but that still doesn’t mean you should pick on the smaller artists with smaller experiences.
I always say "every artist starts as a bad one" when people think my art is just a result of talent. As if I was born with it. When in fact, I had to work really hard to learn.

Art is a skill like any other; some people are naturally better at it. I feel like people forget that it doesn’t mean you will never have to practice. For example, some people are naturally better at math. They still have to study and stuff in order to improve, but they tend to improve faster.
Tl;dr: Artistic talent is a thing. That doesn’t mean you never have to practice - That isn’t how talents work. You have to practice to improve like anybody else.

While many beginner artists' work is unintentionally stylized due to a lack of experience, I think that's wonderful. As you grow as an artist, you notice that each and every artwork has a style to it, regardless of whether its photorealistic. Recently I was studying the charcoal portraits of John Singer Sargent, and learned his wonderful and unique way at drawing eyes. He focuses on a value approach, leaving a line of white for the bottom eyelid to really bring the viewer's attention to them. Is this always the most accurate? No, but he does this to affect the viewers understanding of his drawings, making each eye feel like a window into a soul.
Yup my friend who's a really great artist literally dealt with this mindset in discord. They literally begged her to stream her art and immediately went into critique mode and had the gall to gaslight her and say well if you don't like it you can go into another chat like BRUH, YOU begged her to show her art and now you mad she wasn't receptive to your UNASKED for critique. She's a great artist with amazing shorthand. Like I can't with some folks...
I can't even imagine what it's like for younger folks and beginners alike when these folks are brazen enough to go after professional or really good artists.

I think the problem is more in how beginner artists are treated and how there is too much hate on TikTok among artists. The "shipping" thing is unnecessary and ridiculous enough to be considered a real problem that affects people, because honestly, it doesn't at all. That they ship toxic or problematic dynamics does not affect or hurt anyone. Also, quite disrespectful that part of"they prefer to use their talent to draw those things". Focus on the issues that really affect people.
It's weird because I barely see people being offended by shooting games where you... Literally kill fictional people. But when you enjoy dark fiction relationships you are suddenly a real life groomer and a terrible person even if you don't support it in real life.

As a Twitter artist I've been through this type of situation especially when people comment "zoophile art style" because I draw anthros. I just don't know why people are like this to other artist. Soon these beginner artists will be amazing artist one day.

It worries me how much empathy died after the pandemic. I see it more and more often. People forget there is someone behind the art and behind the account. It genuinely worries me.
It's hard to know how much of it is a change in empathy and how much of it is just kids having more and more access to adult spaces. Either adults are acting like 13 year olds, or there are more 13 year olds than previously in these spaces.

People were already rude before the pandemic. COVID wasn't the catalyst for mean comments. Trolls and rude commenters have been an issue since the internet really became popular. I wish people would stop suggesting that people got worse after the pandemic. No, they're just showing their true colors.
If only empathy were the only thing that died with the pandemic. We still haven't seen the full consequences 😒
Fun idea:
Instead of criticizing and hating on beginner artists, make a list of them. Follow them. Check back in on them in a month, a few months, a year. See if they make any improvements! It’s wonderful watching that progress ^^

I do this a lot, especially on young artists. Kinda cute, sometimes i realize they became even better than me and it is a bit sad but also cool
as someone who’s an artist on tiktok, it is toxic as HELL. the amount of times i’ve seen beginner artists that had comments that said “oh!..” or “it’s something” or “god is testing me” and most of the time, they arent even artists themselves. theres more comments about straight up bullying and trying to cover it up as “constructive criticism” rather than giving art tips on how they can improve

Fun fact: a “art style” doesn’t have to follow realism or the average art style, hell not until the renaissance perspective wasn’t there and people were made to look as best as possible, you can draw people with circle hands just cause it’s your art style, you can draw all fur/hair spiky cause you WANT to. Art styles cannot be copied, and art styles cannot be “claimed.” Just cause a famous artist has a distinctive art style doesn’t mean you cannot use such art style for your self or take inspiration from it, do not harass people for “copying” when it is simply a art style and not the drawing itself.
The Croaket situation was really sad. I'm personally not too big on how they placed the eyes, but it's their style, and I support that. The fact that people were being so unnecessarily cruel and condescending to a child over not just an art style but also being associated with a community that they’re not a part of anymore is just so immature.
And making fake screenshots by make it look like croaket is saying slurs (like the jellybean situation) and making another fake screenshot by editing her CR fanart to make it look like They’re whitewashing a character too. Is also pathetic
They HAD the option to give them constructive criticism in the most respectful way possible, yet thought it was better to incite harassment on a literal child?! Like, I know they're too young to be on the Internet and all, but that's a *child.* And the fact that they made up evidence as an excuse to bully them makes it even worse! My biggest peeve in this community is how people will find something they don’t like about the artist and use that to justify exploiting their work. One of these users got told an artist didn’t allow reposts on a video the user made showing the artists work and their response was “oh they ship something I don’t like so I don’t care what they want”. If you fawn over their work and get views off it but use SHIPS of all things as a shield for why the artist doesn’t need respect you actually just don’t care about artists.
People like this need to be called out

Not gonna lie i don't see the pedophile connection in op comment and i don't think they specifically meant Pedo ships. Just that some people are taking their stances too serious which can harm others weather deserved or not. If you dismiss bounderies then you're an asshole either way.
I remember when I was still a learning artist and I posted some art on Deviant Art and Tumblr. I forgot what site it was on but someone came along and said, “the neck seems a bit long” I took that criticism and fixed the necks. Other times I would get, “the eyes look a bit odd” I then took that and worked on it. Long story short, sometimes creative criticism can be helpful. Now, when I look at my old art, I think, “oh, this was my long neck phase and that person kindly pointed it out” or “yeah, now that I know what I’m doing the eyes DID look a bit odd…”
Don’t be scared to give advice but don’t be rude about it, if you know how to, try explaining a way to have the learning artist grow and learn.
im a small artist on a quite small platform (and im planning on moving to instagram) and once i drew a fictional character from a game and a person under my post commented something like “its really great, but the chest looks kinda collapsed” and i 102% agreed with that chest looked extremely weird but they werent rude about it! they even complimented me. this is how i think people can criticize without being absolute jerks about it, and they can do it if they want to.
The thing is that... At least to ME, saying "x looks odd" tells me NOTHING. If its odd, then why is it odd?
If you are gonna give criticism then be croncrete or don't say anything dammit!
So a little bit of clarification on what "proship" actually means because Twitter antis really shifted the definition. Proship = pro shipping, also sometimes known as profic = pro fiction. People who use these labels believe that nobody should be facing real harassment, threats, etc. over fictional characters or fictional content they choose to consume. You will also notice that most proship artists tag their art and works appropriately for ease of filtering out whatever you may dislike. The idea behind proship is that fiction is a place removed from the real world and that in the fictional sphere, you are free to enjoy topics and content that would be inappropriate or wrong in the real world if you so desire. Some people who identify with the labels like problematic fiction themselves but not all do, many have very different tastes, and many don't even enjoy problematic content themselves but recognize that facing death threats, doxing, and other forms of harassment over fictional characters and concepts is wrong. I hope this helped clarify some things and explain why there are a lot of artists who don't like antis and prefer to stick to proship/profic labels.

Honestly, you guys need a new label. Just ditch the term “proshipper” and come up with something that isn’t so easy to twist around into meaning something it doesn’t. Preferably without the term “ship” in it since the philosophy is broader than just shipping anyway, and including “ship” just attracted shipwar BS disguised as morality.
I personally just like describing myself as “anti-moral harassment”. There’s plenty of fictional content I find disgusting and would rather avoid like the plague, but I’m not about to go railing against someone online for it. It’s pointless, like trying to stop the tide. And in the end hurting a real person is far more heinous than anything that happens in the land of make-believe.
THANK YOU I've seen terrible explanations of this and people making entire video essays on how proshipping is the worst thing in the world. I personally think that the whole anti movement specifically tends to target neurodivergent people who may have a different perception of fiction and may not associate the problematic topics to the real world in any way whatsoever. I have a little brother with autism who enjoys fiction and sometimes problematic ships and I can tell you that he does not even think about how those things would work in real life, but only about the character dynamic within the characters' context
This reminds me of the "deviantart/tumblr cringe compilations" I've seen on youtube a few years ago where people just made fun of art that was mostly made by children
I actually had one of my old art on a cringe compilation before. It was a pony animation I made and it was my first time animating. It was literally just my OC bobbing her head with shades ala Vinyl Scratch (who if you don't know is a DJ Pony and in one of her first appearances, she bobbed her head to some music). Though she was standing and doing so.
The funniest part of that whole thing was I animated it... using MSPAINT of all things (mixed with Gimp's abilities to make GIFS)!!! So... that takes extra work.
That was in a cringe compilation that ended up getting removed (probably for harassment). Why? Simple answer... it was a "bad pony OC with 3 frames of animation" (no one tell them it was actually around 12-15 frames). Heck, a lot of MLP art was in there for no reason. Like not even fetishy or crossover stuff, just fanart that people made or OCs.
It discouraged me enough though that I stopped drawing for a while and it took me until... probably 2-5 years ago to even try learning how to do animation again.
But... there was a small up upside, someone did comment and asked why that one (my GIF) was in there because they found it actually pretty good. No response. But it was nice.
if there´s one thing I learned, it´s that it´s always children going after children because they´re all insecure and want to feel better/bigger than the other person. And they´re just generally immature, lol
OH GOD, I remember that shit, I remember a specific two, Solar sands and a pufferfish one, those two where the type of channel that'd go on someone's page and just take the piss out of them without giving valid feedback.
And you know what else?
I used to watch those channels until I grew up and realised what they were doing was awful but the part that really sealed it for me was a reply that the Pufferfish made to comment asking why they hated JaidenAnimations and you know what they said?
They said that they hated her because she was "too dramatic" and then listED THE FUCKING VIDEO ABOUT HER *_EATING DISORDER_* AS AN EXAMPLE.
That shit disgusted me on an abhorrent level.

In my painting class, I straight up got a critique saying “The anatomy looks weird” when my art style isn’t meant to be realistic. My teacher even said they didn’t explain why or give me tips to improve, it was just a random comment meant to nitpick at my art. Seeing the rendering process comments reminded me of that situation 😅
Okay, but that is an entirely different situation considering you were in a painting class at school... and were mostly likely assigned to learn it a certain way, even with cartoonish and stylized art you need to know the fundamental basics of anatomy which is what schools try to teach.

i really REALLY hate when people insult artists for their art. yes, criticism is okey if you're intentions is to only help the artist and not bullying them. i've been in the art community for years and i never seen so much toxicity and less kindness today. the art community should be welcoming,nice and supportive. not what we have right now, everytime i lose a little bit of hope in the art community and i really wish for every artists out there to be okey
Art is a process. The input put into learning and improving weaknesses takes years of studying and practicing. When my friends who have kids interested in drawing show me their work, they seem to compare instantly, but when I look at it, I find a lot of potential. Like you said, we have to start somewhere, I wasn't as good as a child as I am now. I don't like divisiveness in a community that is meant to lift each other and encourage each other to keep at it.

Okay but I absolutely laughed when I saw the "correction" at 4:07. The "art fixer" just removes all perspective on the head and tries to force it into the positions of the face for a typical straight forward view. They move the hair down, making it less fluffy which isn't too bad (that's just a personal stylistic thing so its fine either way) then go ahead and have the bright idea to RAISE the nose/mouth area. The head is tilted down and the bottom of the nose (which is positioned halfway down the eyes to chin) is now placed 1/4 of the way down- The mouth is now where the bottom of the nose should be and they have a mega-chin. I mean I'm not suprised considering if you're "fixing" art, you're likely some rude kid or artist that isn't too experienced with the mediums, but wow my imagination as an artist is going wild with that mega-chin look hahahhaa.

Me too.. it’s so sad how over the past few years people have grown meaner and more intolerant, and the younger artists are being pushed so hard by the standards they see online and top me it just looks stressfull , that’s why I don’t really post my art. Its meant to be a fun relaxing activity but recently it has changed. I’m really glad I was able to have such a supportive environment growing up

There's no such thing as a "proshipper art style". Spitting vitriol towards others over ships will just make creators draw more of the ships people claim to hate so much. Pettiness and spite are incredibly strong motivators for plenty of fandom artists.

I find tracing really helpful when I work on stylization. I often trace something a few times, exaggerating different elements of an initial photo, and then look at what works, and what doesn't work, and only then draw the final version free hand. This process is such a game-changer for me!
as a beginner artist seeing other people and ocosianly me being bullied for my artstyle made me very insecure, i stipped drawing for months and was scared to post andy photos fo my art, now ive started to draw again, but i still dont feel confident to post it because of all the hate ive seen other people with simmilar artsyle like mine get. and i will never understand how and why the artist community is so toxic for other peoples art for no reason, if their a beginner just give them tips! dont yell or leave hate comments because taht wont help

I do think tracing can help you develop as an artist--it can help you understand how a style you like works, and then once you understand the structure you can use the parts you like in your own work. Of course sharing this online as your own work is completely wrong. But as an exercise to do on your own, I find it pretty useful. Even as an art critic, it's a good way to really understand the detail of an artist you like and it can make you think about why you like or don't like something.
Tracing is also muscular memory. Tracing is good but copying is just pllagerism.

This reminds me of when a small creator on tiktok drew xiao and it wasn’t bad, but the body proportions were a bit odd, but of course, with enough practice, they could still have potential to continue making good art. major misconception about "they don't ship underage characters but they're proship" is made by antis. Being against harassing others over ficiton is what the antis label as proship; they tied it to unrelated things like those even though majority of proship doesn't, leading to ppl actively avoid the label (as it should: being normal should not need a label).
Why? Because they need people not to focus on the bad things anti community did; for example: mass harassment campaigns to anyone against attacking other ppl, defamation, celebrating some artists' family's deaths or even themselves when they did commit s////de or s/// h///, and a lot more. It's a toxic community where if u don't join the harassment, they'll out you.

I remember someone on tiktok posted all the portraits of bts that they had drawn and said that this is their first time drawing realistic portraits and honestly it was really good for a beginner (especially comparing to my first realistic portraits that i drew) but the comments were horrific. Like they genuinely made me want to cry. Also there was a trend where people would judge people's "cringe" fanart and it was downright disgusting and humiliating to watch. I remember I saw a comment that said that people judged their art so badly that they stopped drawing altogether. The worst part is if you leave comments they will answer people back with well it's cringe what am I supposed to do and other bs along the lines.
Sad thing is I think that still happens with animations, but I've mostly seen it on YT than TikTok

I was so discouraged when I first posted art online 20 or so years ago when all I wanted was to be part of the community.
When I was learning anatomy, I would trace bathing suit models. It wasn't a "hey, look, I made art out of your artwork" thing, it just helped me get better at anatomy. But I also stepped away from it when I felt I understood enough to branch off independently. IDK, people need help understanding where tracing works in learning to draw and where tracing is inappropriate.
the thing that drives me nuts about the criticism is that those people who criticize know ABSOLUTELY NOTHING about art. As an ACTUAL artist who has read books, educated myself, watched videos, taken a few art history classes, explored stylization and ACTUAL makes art I've found that most of those artist who are "insulted" for "incorrectly drawing" are not wrong AT ALL. and I personally LOVE seeing up and coming artist exploring things I wouldn't have thought to have drawn in such a way. IF YOUR a new artist I hope you see this. YOUR art is valid and you have the privilege of exploring and learning in your own unique way, at a certain point you stop following your own intuition and you start to become more uniform. TREASURE your uniqueness, even tho you WANT to be somewhere else with your art, your art is beautiful now too and the journey your exploring is exciting. Keep going.
A lot of people that criticize arent artists so they cant understand why artists make some artistic choices. Theres always gonna be that kid that questions why a character drawing has big eyes, when its literally supposed to be in anime style for instance lol. Still, I think its important to acknowledge that your credentials as an artist dont make you more capable to evaluate art or your criticism more legitimate. I've seen artists online and at my school that tried justifying obvious mistakes and making them pass as part of their style or as intentional artistic choices. But because they are studying art history, taking art classes, or just have a formal art education they feel superior as if no one can criticize or advice them and everyone else was wrong.
Though it's true that people who want to criticize art should at least know what they're talking about generally, it's important to note that critiques from non-artists are validated as well. For example, you don't need to be an author to write a review of a book and give constructive criticism. The most significant part of giving criticism is to give it in a way that would actually help the artist improve, not just insulting their work.

It really is a shame that so many beginner artists get backlash just because they aren't at a certain skill level yet. I know I used to be similar cause I would (internally) critique other people's art CONSTANTLY, to which I regret doing it because I missed out on a lot of artists who may have grown to be much better than they were before!
I'd say give a chance to those who are starting out. It really does help out. If I hadn't had the people I did supporting me on my art journey, then I probably would've given up a long time ago

As a young artist, I literally got so much hate when I was posting my old art. I got so much hate that I privated most of my old videos and couldn’t stop thinking about those hate comments, I considered quitting a couple of times. I rarely post any of my artwork these days.
tracing is actually a pretty handy way to learn anatomy and shape. the key is to trace real models and section off the basic shapes of the form. I found this was super helpful when my art teacher taught us this. you can do with with any complex form. it's especially handy for learning animal shapes and also muscles and how they fit together. it's super super helpful. you just need to take those forms you traced and try to draw them free hand before building them up.

I agree that tracing can help you improve your art as a beginner. Maybe 2 years ago, when I started wanting to learn to draw in anime style, I found a random picture online (it was a drawing of the vocaloid character IA on a thumbnail of a nightcore video) and thought it was really beautiful. So I put my phone next to my paper and tried to reproduce it (but I gave her red/orange hair and blue-green eyes instead of her original colours because I have a lack of good pencils and not a huge variety of colours and I like red hair and green eyes). But the outlines stayed mostly the same, except for the other peace hand I gave her. This drawing was one of the drawings that had a huge impact on my art, especially the eyes. I don’t draw exactly like that anymore and I think I could draw it better today, but the eyes were a huge inspiration. But my art has went on so far that you can’t really tell anymore that it was originally like this drawing, I developed my own art style (once again, after loads of other styles that I called "art styles" and have long abandoned) which I haven’t seen anywhere before. If I had to describe, it would be like a mix of Winx Club and anime body with ridiculously long and weird legs, oversized Tokyo Mew Mew head, oversized eyes and shoujo anime fluffy hair. It’s not perfect, but ok, it’s still evolving.
I don’t trace often anymore, if at all. But yesterday I practiced drawing hands and used sketches from DeviantArt for it/I tried to reproduce them. And sometimes I look at drawings to see how to draw specific body parts or to look at the proportions. I drew a character with braids a week ago and wanted to make the hair look more fluff and realistic, so I looked how people online make braids look good, and it helped me drawing braids.
I wouldn‘t post these drawings online anyways. I don’t want that pressure on me and I still need to copy from other people from time to time. I will wait until I am skilled enough before I think about posting. And I don’t know if I really want to post, because I only draw for my enjoyment (not for fame or money or whatever) and because I can’t sleep if I don’t draw my ideas (my brain goes crazy at night sometimes).

to the tracing debate since u brought it up: people who say that tracing is a good way to learn dont mean you can trace something and just post it. Tracing is actually a good way and you learn from it but you cant just post it claiming it is yours. You have to really think while tracing, use guidelines and dont just mindlessly trace over all the lines. Its also a good way to see what lines ur gonna use, for example when drawing facial expressions u might not draw all the wrinkles or when drawing shadows. Its actually a pretty good way to learn, just make sure u dont use it all the time and maybe redraw your traces version

I used to trace comic book covers when I was younger. Really helped to add some dynamism to my art later on. Personally, I think tracing's okay for a beginner I suppose.
Tbh its fine if youre learning but as he said, do not post it online...or immediately say you traced as practice and where you traced it on

For me it´s a hit or miss kind of thing. It didn´t help me much in terms of body anatomy, but I at least improved at drawing some hands
I’ve seen a couple of other art RUclipsrs who suggested tracing while learning, but the main gist of all of them was that it was definitely just a way to build to help break down the shapes and forms things are made out of.
Personally I’ve had mixed luck with it, I like it for learning how lines flow for example. Honestly it seems like it boils down to if it’s what helps keep you learning, even if it’s a bad way to learn it’s better than not learning at all.
Obviously it goes without saying that plagiarism is bad, it’s not about learning at that point.
For a beginner it's fine since you grasp at how a drawing comes together but I think using references and not directly copying them is the best solution
@@thelostmessenger Honestly I find a great way to study is to trace, reference and then draw from memory. When I was doing anatomy studies (which I still refresh myself from time to time) I would trace the anatomy to basically outline it to get a feel for it's shapes, then i'd break the drawing down into shapes like the shapes of the muscles and joints, then i'd move the trace off of the reference image and then draw completely off of the side in a clear spot and using the original image and trace breakdown as references, draw a new image using what I learned from the trace about shapes, then the final step was usually making an entirely new image without the reference to see if I could do it properly without aid, If I didn't i'd go back and repeat the process, if I finally got it and got a good result then i'd move onto another subject or apply the new knowlege to my art process.
Croaket situation was so upsetting, they were just a teen man :( I follow them on instagram and they’re doing much better now. I’m so glad they didn’t let any of the nasty videos stop them from making art.

I draw alot of anime and chibi on tiktok i have stopped using it cus, i had people call my art "shit" or "your art looks like shit" im over here like, confused.. so i deleted my vids and pictures of my art, also i had a person saying "Art needs development fr" when im not even a beginner artist ive been drawing since 8 years old.

i just wanted to share my opinion on the whole tracing thing: Tracing can help you learn how to draw better. sometimes it could work as a reference for how you want your artstyle to look and it also can help you with proportions and such, but in a most stylized way. the real problem is people posting it on the internet as their own- if you trace an art piece, you should 100% credit the artist and you shouldn't be claiming it as your own!
I'll often trace loosely the proportions of someone for a portrait, but I'll end up erasing the lines and adjusting them to look more like the image im working off of. I never fully trace every little detail from the image, I think that's what makes it look stiff. It's important to put your own perspective and personality into your paintings, I feel like as long as you do that it's not "cheating". traceing someone's painting on the other hand I feel like it's not only lame, but it holds you back from your true potential as a artist and keeps you from finding your own style.

Man... I used to only draw chibi because of my favourite artist (Yamio), then I moved to adult chibi, then petite body, and now the art style is very mature, mostly because it's easier to draw. But I would love to master my original dream of having petite looking adult characters... but with my fear of being perceived as you know, I guess my style kept changing and "maturing" it is so terrifying and I hate it haha...
If you like the chibi artstyle and want to draw in it, I'd say just do it. Majority antis will not even be able to tell you what falls under "problematic" and use lingo that not even actual proshippers know what means (also apparently think dead dove refers to necro, which is just really funny to me). If people start hating on you, block them, they just want the moral high ground without actual consequences.

Thing is, you need to know what rules you're breaking before you do if you want it to look appealing. But artists, uncluding yourself, obviously do (from the little I've seen of you on RUclips, you stylise your art really well) and anyone saying they're somehow worse for not being "realistic" enough seriously needs to get their head out of their arse.
Something I did as a beginner artist was get a reference photo and draw basic shapes over it like circles, rectangles, etc and then trace those instead. It really helped me understand proportions and it was by far the best method I used as a beginner!

a good way to give a new artist constructive criticism is by asking them "hey are you ok with constructive criticism" this helped me more when I was starting out instead of peps just saying hurtful things about my art without adding a solution to fixing it.

It's like people in the art community left their brain at home. Every artists have to start somewhere. We were all bad at some point. I still look back to some of my oldest sketchbooks, where I drew humans with a box for a head, squiggly lines for hair, and these odly humongous _square_ eyes. And now I could say I'm pretty good in semi-realistic art. If the new artists were mocked by non-artists, it was still tolerable. What pained me the most was seeing some decent artists bullying the new ones. Did you forget your origin? You were one of them at some point. At what point did you become so entitled? Imagine a much better artist mocking your work. That's brutal. Fellow artists should stick together since they know how it feels. All I gotta say is, if you're an aspiring artist, don't bother going online if you're not mentally ready. It's the quickest way for depression and to shut yourself down from the outside world. If you want to show your art to someone for advice or opinion, maybe a friend or loved ones. Don't be afraid to show it to _them._ It's way better than asking internet trolls online who don't know sh*t on what they're talking about. If you think you're capable enough to take bs critisms then go for it. _Only_ if you think you're ready. Lastly, to the fellow artists who _dared_ to mock the new generations... You're the reason why art is a declining hobby

Its even worse to hate or trash on beginner artists right now with the use of AI art which is an ongoing problem.
If people keep harrassing beginners for their art, they will eventually see AI art has a solution to their problem because the AI can make better professional work than them and its still art to get them what they desired and get people on tiktok to shush.
So instead of encouraging to learn art theyre encouraging them to use a source that steals from many people's art so that they can be liked, this is not it.

People rather be angry at pixels on a secreen than actually do something in real life and stopping or preventing it, if you dont like if then dont see it, move on, complaing,crying and moaning about a drawing, it isnt doing anything, go use that energy and and actually so somthing than typing on a keyboard and thinking your doing somthing
Sincerely speaking, the majority of those who criticize an art style that isn't closely related to realism or semi-realism don't understand that imagination and expressing it through a drawing are at the heart of art. In fact, the majority of the cartoonish art forms I've seen on Tik Tok are incredible. Although I personally am a semi-realistic artist, I frequently find myself appreciating various kinds of art styles rather than making fun of them.
PERSONALLY: I think tracing official art is okay, as long as it’s private and not something you use to show publicly claiming it’s your own.
And as long as you aren’t tracing fan art I don’t see an issue.
While tracing has its place, I still would argue against it. I've been working through my freshman year of art college, and we've had an extremely strong focus on portraits, usually what's argued as an area good to trace. For the first half of the semester, we focused on making a copy of a charcoal portrait by John Singer Sargent. We didn't trace these, but instead printed them out and made a direct copy to study them with our eyes alone. This is by far what I would recommend to artists instead of tracing, as it teaches you to eyeball lines and shapes with near perfect precision. This skill will always be much more effective than tracing, as if you choose to trace, your work is limited more akin to photography. Tracing only works considering you have reference material to work off of, but art is about breaking boundaries, interpretations of reality, etc, not replicating it. Learning the skill of eyeballing lines, shapes, and values will prove much more successful. We aren't photographers, we aren't here to replicate everything with exactness, we're here to interpret what's important about it to us.
If that helps you and you don't try to steal someone's hard work for clout, I also think it's fine. But the thing about tracing is it makes you think about the flat shapes on the screen/page instead of the 3D forms they're supposed to represent. You don't have to understand why a line's there, just follow it to the millimetre. It also largely removes creative input, individuality and quirks any artist would introduce to their artwork by nature - if only they actually studied the reference material instead of tracing it.
@@shiverse9868 you're right that making a replica of a portrait is a better way of understanding fundamentals and art theories in the long run but tracing is also a form of learning through muscle memory and some sort of build ups when you don't know where to start. ive seen problems of other artist colleagues forgetting how they made a certain piece they recently drew which is one of the causes of artblock and observing as a study alone may drain you especially when you've ran out of inspirations. personally, tracing has helped me draw dragons since it's something that i can't learn by observing alone because of their unusual shapes. ,and im pretty sure there are alot of people who can't just put down what they observe from scratch.
i would pretty much rather suggest tracing than gridding because gridding is the most ineffective type to learn art as it heavily relies to references with no fundamentals to learn at. learning which box does the eyes end isn't learning art at all.

I don't need people to tell me my art is terrible since I tell myself that all the time and don't bother sharing any either way. Mainly due to being nearly 29 but still at a newbie level though fingers crossed I actually improve this year with the practice I'm doing (even if no one else will likely see the results).
Age doesn't matter whn it comes to art, hell I'm 18 and there are 12 year olds more fechnically skilled than me. I recently have has a slump in art so looked back on my draeings from even just a few months ago and man my drawinf has improved alot. Even when you aren't actively drawing and practicing, try and taken mental notes of the world around you and different techniques you see because the next time you draw those things you soaked up will be in the back of your mind
I feel like tracing is a tool that's good to practice color and shadow. I don't trace, but if I had someone just trying to nail a certain technique, I might recommend they trace--or I might even recommend they get a specialized coloring book. It's a practice tool, I think
Some people find it helps build muscle memory and line confidence as well. I think part of the whole tracing debate is down to learning style. The only issue is when you don't add/change enough to make it theirs but post it with no explanation that it isn't.
Classic comic book artists traced references often. They needed a way to do things quicker to reduce RSI which to could heavily impact their career. Artists can reuse their own poses and such more easily in digital art but they still need to build up the skills to get there - and for some people that includes tracing studies.

I trace bases and sometimes clothes, and other things, but I don't post them, or say they are my own. The only "sharing" I've done is showing some to my brother, which I *always* clarify it was traced. A lot of people despise it, and I don't blame them.
I trace real pictures of cats for my art just for the body shape. But i tend to draw the faces and fur details myself.
It helps me get a grasp on anatomy. I can draw side profiles of cats sitting, cat paws, etc. Now. The difference is that it’s not other people’s art, it’s real pictures. Which real, professional artists have done and profited from! (Some of the art in the warriors field guide books is traced from real pictures of cats and oh my god it’s so funny) so i haven’t seen a problem with it, personally.
It is not cheating in the sense that it makes the drawing easy. It's cheating in the sense that they are using other people's work and incorporating it into the art instead of just referencing it. This includes photographs. There are big name artists in the whose design process includes tracing, but they come up with the poses themselves, took the photos themselves, and traced their own photography. It's different when internet artists simply redraw images of famous people taken by photographers.
I agree with you on the tracing part: Nothing wrong with tracing for fun, but if we really want to improve, starting from the basics (anatomy) is really important if we’re going for the realism style :)
Everyone who calls themselves an “artist” and goes to hate on other people’s artstyle cannot even be called an artist . Art is development, it’s growth but most importantly it’s perspective. Artstyle is still Art so why do they think they have the right to fix someone’s art? Humans mock each other to make themselves feel better (however that works) and it’s really sad to see.
I remember finding a beginner artist that was still figuring out shading, lineart, anatomy, etc etc. Most of their tiktoks had good comments, but a couple tiktoks were just filled with vile comments bullying the art. They did art trades a lot, so I did a trade with em and complimented their art a lot to try to counteract all the bullying they received (and also because I genuinely liked their lineart & overall art style, it was charming even if a lot of people thought it was messy). I deleted TikTok a while ago, so idk if the hate has died down, but I hope they're doing well

so i looked into "proshipper" there is no such thing as proshipper artstyle. proship is not a type of ship, it is a stance, like a movement on letting artists ship whatever the want as long as its fictional and harmless. its like prochoice for eg, prochoice is when u let ppl make their own choice and have rights over what they do with their own body. proship does not mean "problematic ship", it means, "in support of shipping anything in fiction and not caring cuz they r just fictional at the end of the day"
I’m glad someone actually properly researched the term on their own time, so many people have related this term to sudenly thinking what someone likes in fiction is their personal morals when that’s never been the case, these characters are all fake and some people have deeper reasoning for liking what they do, but at the end of the day it’s no one’s business what they do or don’t enjoy in fictional content as long as it’s in its proper corner of the internet and no one’s getting crucified over it

this is why im scared of posting my art online😭 whenever ive posted it ive gotten good comments but i always get too scared to check the art again and want to shrivel up and die knowing people have seen my art. even if i thought it looked great before, as soon as ive shown it to ANYONE even just one friend, i second guess sooo much. i really want to spread my art to help out with my social anxiety a bit, but it is sooo hard and even harder when i have seen things like this happen myself. thankfully i dont use tiktok or twitter practically ever because i cant be bothered and it really is such a waste of time, but i have always wanted to post because i just love being involved with communties i enjoy

Stylized art is a different way to draw things, so proportions shouldn't matter because it's just art; not anything harmful.

in my opinion, being a beginner artist is a stepping stone of being a great one, think of van gogh, he didnt just magically draw majestic art, he soent his whole life being a perfectionist making art, making art takes time and energy.
I once had shown my art to someone on discord and they proceeded to tell me my art looked like shit. That hurt by itself but then they proceded to post it to a giant server we shared(the server was made by a RUclipsr named Cyrus) where everyone(no exceptions not one person tried to stop them) proceeded to make fun of my art picking at the anatomy and just generally making fun of it. I left that server that day but knowing that not only could the majority of them probably not draw but decided to shove their opinions out into the open world still kinda hurts.

I have to correct you, but the term proship does not necessarily mean a person who ships "problematic" pairing, it means a person who does not mind someone doing something like this, and will not attack an artist simply because ship has "problematic" features. proshippers don't always ship something problematic, they just don't care about other people's ships. because these are just fictional characters and the main point is to not harass real person because of their "problematic" drawing or writing 😅 simply pointing out opinion is okay, but when people starting to assume artist's bad person in real life becsuse of their drawing and sending really rude messages is realy not okay for most of proshippers

the funny thing is that the proship mindset ("don't like, don't read" kinda thing, tho this is a gross generalization) used to be the default on the internet until antis became a thing.
antis harassed artists who made fictional content that made them personally uncomfortable. hence why proship had to be coined as a term in the first place.

thank you!! seeing lots of videos confusing this term bothers me because it causes more misinformation and hate to artists who just don't want to harass or be harassed because they ship something taboo (or respect that the person who does isn't a bad person because of it). its fine to argue about how to block or silence if its something you're not comfortable with, looking for spaces so that everyone's good but damn, the whole hate campaigns that come out of antis are horrible.
