Molasses was once a staple... I often poured 1 gallon containers from puncheon barrels in the 1950's for customers. They brought their own containers. Many used it for molasses buns and bread, and many used it for moonshine.

The knife father is cutting the buns with just made me laugh out loud 😂 I like that i could see a little banter between the parents while doing the flour, wish i could've heard what they were saying.
Did you say cheese whiz??? Gonna have to let you have that one 😂 I've got a huge thing of molasses sitting in the pantry and I'm gonna have to try these today

Reminds me of the Hermit bars my grandmother would make. Always with raisins and spice. Think something people do not think about now is that raisins were popular because there were not many sweets. No candy to speak of. So having raisins in something was a treat.

I loves cheeze whiz on me lassy buns too lol. I like the way father rolled then and cut them. I know one thing they looked delicious. There's nothing better to revive you after a long walk in the Woods than a lassy bun, and yep like a raisin in mine too. Now I haven't personally made them (not sure why lol) oh yeah my mother still makes them for me. Definitely, food is the soul of us Newfoundlanders it's always something we did as a family as well. Great message my buddy , another great video.

Wow, Garry, I thought I was the only one who loved cheese whiz on molasses buns 😂. I remember mom buying a box of molasses bus, it was a rectangle box, with a see though plastic on the top of the box, the buns where wrapped 2 in clear plastic, they were round, flat on the bottom and a little indent in the top of the bun. No one can remember these molasses buns, only me and mom. I always put cheese whiz on them as a child, and I still do.

That's one of my husband's favorite treats. I make them often. I use raisins as well. They are always a hit in our house. As always though I learned today an easier way to cut them out. I used to always drop them by tablespoon on a cookie sheet. Your way is great. Just roll them up and slice them like you do. Thanks for sharing. Love your channel. Keep on cooking ❤❤❤

My mudder never added raisins, she would roll out the dough and use a glass to make round buns. Baked up real good. And yes … butter

Cheez whiz??? Well I suppose it’s no different than having sharp cheddar cheese on top of a slice of apple pie that’s the way my grandpa used to like his apple pie. Honestly as sixth generation Ontarian I’ve never heard of Molasses Buns before but I sure love the sound of them and I’ll definitely make them for something to try. My hubby’s ancestors are from PEI and I’m sure he would recognize them. God bless. I think raisins would’ve been a real delicacy back in the 1800’s. Food is a way to celebrate and one day I hope to visit the island! I can’t even imagine being invited to one of your special suppers. What an absolute honour! God bless.🥰❤️🇨🇦🍁🙏🏻

If you use less flour, the dough will have a scoopable texture that can be easily dropped onto a cookie sheet with a tablespoon or medium cookie scoop. By doing this, you will avoid over-kneading and over-working the dough, resulting in a molasses bun that rises well and has a much softer texture. Give it a try!

Looks like a delicious recipe. I love raisins. I love cinnamon and think raisins and cinnamon with molasses is a delicious combination. Don't think id like cheese whiz on them but everyone has their own taste buds😅. Not hating on you just my own opinion. We have tea biscuits here in Philadelphia. It's the closest comparison to molasses buns. They have raisins in them, buttery but no molasses. People split them open and put jam or butter on them when their hot.

Yes on the cheez wiz. Even cream cheese would be great on a warm bun.

I haven’t quite finished the video but want to ask this. Do you folks do tea biscuits with raisins? How about pork buns and raisins? I have decided to get back to my roots and make a down home recipe each week. Thanks for the inspiration!
