the perfect theme to backstab you with. Seriously, i swear the Lumeris is the one that goes from peace to war almost immediately on me, despite me having fleets 3x more powerful than them.
They (AI) declare war on me IN THE SAME TURN and attack me immediately, they also sneak some fleet into my systems and start sieging it too.
That's why it smell fishy for a while!
Goes from ALLIED to WAR in the same turn!

That's mostly an issue with AI, even the Unfallen go to war with everyone despite being pacifist by nature.

I love the Jazzy feel of this faction's theme.
My favorite track in the game. This song makes me think of some Metropolis in the far off future where the fog crawls across the ground, it barely hides the filth on the streets as it starts pouring out of the numerous and lengthy alleyways that dot the city.
Add that with infinite bridges, channels and overall Venecian noire vibe. They're called Venecians in their gamefiles for a reason)

Its funny, this song always gives me incredible half life vibes, just something about the instrument choice, and the digital effects fills that spot perfectly
They feel like some mix of Hutts from Star Wars and houses from Frank Herbert's Dune, the one on picture feel like Harkonnen Baron
Well, that is to be expected. All writers and artists draw from real life. The main thing that is associated with filthy rich and corrupt people is obesity. Because most of them actually are. How does a corrupt official look in all cartoons in the last 100 years? Some fatso who can barely walk. And is usually slimy and filthy.
Hence the fat slimy worms and these fat frog people.
Families? That as well. Throughout history the main progenitors of corruption and organized crime were in fact, families and clans. Simply because in a such undertaking, being tied by blood is some guarantee of loyalty. You have it traditional mafia, or Japanese Zaibatsu families. There were for the most part of 18th, 19th and first half of 20th century only 4 families in Japan that influenced a lot of decisions made. The Big Four, as they were known, Sumitomo, Mitsui, Mitsubishi, and Yasuda were disbanded (actually just changed a bit) after 1945. And still they are one of the most powerful, if not most powerful conglomerates in the country with various ties - so when making a decision you must take them into account as well. Less today than before, but still.
So more than comparing Limeris to another derivative of fiction, why not truly honor them and compare them to the actual inspiration for the entire idea of fat, slimy, corrupt, family based crimino-economic conglomerates... our own history?
God dammit, now I must do a run with Lumeris, they are the only ones left for me to play through :)
I hope you enjoyed the run with them and thank you for the informative post! I feel it's more appropriate to gravitate towards examples that reflect the thing your referring them to so comparing the Limeris to other space fairing crime families makes more seance to most from an immediate comparison and as an inspiration. That said i am very grateful for the history lesson as most things discounting a few examples do come from the roots of our own history and thank you for expanding upon that. Good day to you.
You are welcome. I did try a game with them, it was quite interesting. In terms of game mechanics I must say that Horatio is my favorite but I played most of the games with United Empire or Vaulters. Good day to you too ;)
You may like 4X Alchemist and thare youtube videos on the Limeris and the other ES2 Factions "SB" Is currently doing a Horatio run ATM. As for my two examples of concepts and ideas that were not directly. sorced from real life or should i say from our perception of reality ware the writer of Alice in wonderland who's name escapes me. They suffered from a nuralogical deases that produced vivid hallucinations these ware the sorce of much of AiWL's themes and strangeness. my second example being the Works of Howard Phpilips Lovecraft this is a more tenous example despite insanity and mental illness running in the family there's no dirrect proof that it impacted his works. ok enough rambleings go now and bask in the glorious unity that is Horatio.
Except most excessively-rich people are pretty well-kempt and not excessively fat, because they can afford personal trainers, chefs and servants, so they can eat perfectly healthily to a fantastic level of quality, get the proper sleep and exercise, and thus be more productive in order to accrue more money.
To say nothing of the medical care they can afford.
