Back in the 90's the government cut way back on spending for mental health care. We used to have mental health departments. Gradually they've continued to cut back on spending, until now most of the people that could have gotten help are in prisons across the country, they are the bulk of the homeless, they self medicate with drugs. They shoot people in malls.

They do still have guns however. You can buy a gun in England by just joining a shooting range. You can take that gun out to the range to shoot it with real bullets. The question is why dont they stop at a grocery store on the way.

I read an article where a witness who was inside the store said something like "We all thought it would happen to us at some point." That was the saddest part. That's where we are mentally as a country to where we have accepted this nightmare as a fact of our daily lives that we can do nothing about.
Life isn't safe. People die from car crashes everyday. Events like this are rare you don't have to worry. Statistically car wrecks are more of a risk.

What can they do? Nothing. It's against the law to do anything about this before a guy goes nuts. It's not even illegal for a mentally ill person to buy a gun at a show on the spot, the background check will not usually bring up issues because folks have to voluntarily admit to this condition or have a government agency previously deem this to be the case; which is rare.
I think he meant in this context that they were physically safe from this recent threat. People could logically be concerned that their community was still in danger from this threat. Like if the shooter had partners that were still on the loose.

In1994 assault weapons were banned here in America, and mass shootings like this decreased. But In 2004, the assault rifle ban was allowed to expire, and since then, mass shootings have increased by more than 100%. That ban needs to be put back into place..
Other than being the preferred weapon of mass carnage for mass shooters, assault rifles and high capacity magazines serve no other purpose. Allowing such a weapon to be openly sold to the public is the height of Irresponsibility, and we've got the bodies to prove it.

She even says she's sorry for the loss of the officer... and then nothing of the victims. Then she's followed by the DA, who's actually accountable to the people, and you'll notice he does mention the victims after the officer.

This happened at my local grocery store here in Boulder. I am still in shock, as is the whole community. Thoughts and prayers go out to the victims and their families.

I'm here in okc, praying for you and your community.
My nephew works there and was just parking his bike to go into work when an officer ran up to him and told him to leave because there was an active shooter. My brother had to rush home from work and pass this just after it happened. He saw bodies lying on the ground in the parking lot and the shooter being taken away into the ambulance. Our family has been such a wreck. Thankfully no one in our family got hurt, but the feelings that we’ve all gone through are only tiny fraction of what the loved ones of the people that were killed must be going through. This breaks my heart that we live in this kind of world.

Nothing will change as a result of this. Americans are saying occasional mass shootings are an acceptable risk in order to preserve their right to bear arms.
So they treat these events the same way as car crashes, an acceptable risk of allowing people to drive cars is that some people will die in accidents , so long as most won’t.

I was the Boulder City Manager in the early 2000's.. and developed a close bond with the men and women serving our community in the Police department, as well as Boulder Fire Service, and the Boulder County Sheriff's department.. I work at City Market (a King Soopers company) but on the western side of Colorado. I can’t even imagine what they went through. This seriously shook me to my core. My heart aches for the victims. I will definitely be saying a prayer for them tonight before I go to bed.
