    I just don't know what it's going to take before Disney realizes their version of Star Wars is horrible. I remember going to see The Star Wars as it was originally in the theater. The lines were insane, people waited a week to get their tickets. It was so surreal. This was all way before the Internet, this was all by word of mouth. The movie stayed in the theaters for over a year because of the demand. I remember getting my display and an official letter for Christmas that year saying, I would receive the action figures in the early part of the following year. They hadn't foreseen the huge demand. I was turning 9 a couple of months after this came out, so I have been a life long fan. To see where it has gone is disheartening to say the least

    Sci Fi in 2024: Harvey Weinstein's fmr Personal Assistant presents 'Lesbians in space; light sabres which once could cut through blast doors now, when driven through someone's abdomen, create a wound that can be walked off; Zach Snyder gives us coal fired spaceships; Star Trek has dancing Klingons and after 60 years Dr Who is wearing a skirt (don't tell me it's a kilt) kissing blokes and his companion gets killed halfway through the first season. I saw Star Wars (ep.IV if you must) at the cinema in 1977 and from that time and through the eighties SciFi seemed to have no boundaries. Funny that the people who shout loudly about breaking down boundaries are the same people who are creating the new ones.

    I remember watching an interview of George Lucas about why he created Star Wars. He (roughly, paraphrasing from memory) stated how he wanted a morality tale of good vs evil, as this was missing at that time in theaters. So Star Wars was intentionally Good Vs Evil. All these people stating in interviews how this world is more nuanced and there should be more grey goop in Star Wars are entirely missing the point. (wish I could find the interview... it was a younger George, likely in the 70s... but RUclips doesn't seem to have it anymore.)

  • @RaikenXion
    @RaikenXion 7 месяцев назад +2

    I think this series is deep down based on Leslie Headland's own like childhood and aspects of her life? I've been reading up on her and there's certain things about her having fell out with her sister supposedly to do with her sexuality coming out as "queer". It's becoming more and more of a thing where modern writers today have to keep writing themselves into their work, and I'm seeing quite a few similarities to Leslie and these "Dyad twins" if they can be called that.
    Headland is gay, her sister is straight - Mae is the sort of messed up sister, Osha turned out as the "normal" sister. 4:35 that clip you shared of the Matriarch woman leader of the witch coven, and her partner. That is kinda similar to Leslie Headland and her wife Rebecca Henderson. Where the one says - "I carried them" and the other says - "I created them". Leslie and her partner do have a baby daughter named Winona who was born funny enough, on May 4th just last year.
    Ofcourse having children and starting a Family is a wonderful thing and it's natural some people will want to write certain things in their lives into the stories they create. But if you really add up what there appears to be so far in this show, two "sisters" twins, *Created* through unnatural means, by way of the force. The Jedi Order of this time involved and connected in some way to discovering this witch coven, and being involved in this particular group of "force sensitives". The two sisters, one turning out *Good* the other let's just say, messed up.
    I guess where I'm going with this may seem somewhat controversial, but these people writing all this modern stuff, they're obviously writing much of themselves into their work, they see themselves as challenging the status quo of society, by the particular way they live their life. They're always going on about "Identity Politics" and "Representation". Seeing themselves *REPRESENTED* in Entertainment. And so I can't help but view this series, NOT even on the surface level of a "Star Wars Story", but I'm looking at it purely from the perspective of what individuals like Leslie Headland are trying to actually say; about themselves, about how they view society.
    CHILDREN are conceived through two parents, a Mother and a Father, this is even a thing in the "Galaxy Far, Far Away". That's just the fundamental Fact of Biological Life. Here we have this all-women, lesbian witch coven, who use the force in such a way, where they "pull at a strand" of the force, manipulate to "Create Life" by UNATURAL means. This went WRONG, like quite badly when we look at how Mae seems to have turned out. But what this witch coven may seem to believe they can do, or try to do is "Create" a Immaculate life, much like Anakin. Although Anakin was created by the *Force* itself, the midiclorians pushing back against one individual who was trying to manipulate those midiclorians.
    Is Leslie Headland trying to like maybe say something about Gay people having children? A Gay woman can "carry a child" in her, but it still needs the sperm from a Man; IVF. I dunno, maybe i'm just looking too much into all of this.

      They believe that by telling stories, they can influence reality to be what they believe it *should* be. But all they do is create a divide between the deluded and the real, and many screeching voices that can’t cope with the challenges of life. In reality, people need stories that we can carry with us and inspire us to overcome difficulties unto growth; these days so many stories like this merely wallow in their feelings of oppression without actually representing most people’s experiences.
      Great stories point to a deeper reality that we can learn from. Even an ordinarily good story will assert some opinion or observation of the writer(s) through subtext and themes. Bad stories tend to be purely self-indulgent fantasies without any regard for the audience.

    George Lucas hand picked Kathleen Kennedy to take over Lucasfilm when he sold it to Disney. He'd worked with her since 1981 and Raiders of the Lost Ark (though she was working directly for Spielberg, not Lucas on that film), and after a decades-long association, no doubt thought she understood Star Wars as well as anyone, considered her a personal friend, and no doubt thought he could trust her to take care of his legacy.
    He simply _has_ to feel terribly betrayed at this point. He probably suspected things were going to go awry when they threw away the story treatments he gave them for the next chapter. It wasn't in the contract, but from what I've read, Lucas walked away from the sale thinking he had a solid, handshake agreement that they were going to use those treatments he gave them. He openly expressed disappointment after The Force Awakens, and saw that it was just a rehash of episode IV's plot; he even said, with obvious disappointment, "there's nothing new." He said The Last Jedi was "beautifully made" -- which is the kind of thing someone says when they _have_ to find something positive to say about a movie they don't actually like. He's recently gone on record that he doesn't think anyone else understood the Force -- and one can't help but take that as a pointed comment on what the current makers of Star Wars properties are doing with it.
    And after this series dropped... I mean, my God, it's like they watched that South Park episode, and took it as a playbook instead of recognizing it as mockery. Lucas has to be careful what he says in public, but I would _love_ to know what he really thinks about Disney Star Wars, especially after this.

    I know how to make the Acolyte canon AND save Lucas' original pristine vision. Have an after end credits scene on the last episode of The Acolyte. Alec Guiness' Obi-wan is on the Falcon headed for the death star with Han, Luke, and Chewbacca. His eyes are closed. They fly open and he momentarily grimmaces. Luke asks, "What is it Ben?" Obi-wan: "I heard millions of souls cry out at once "the thread!" in agony and then it was gone. Luke: Was it a great disturbance in the Force? Obi-Wan: No... I know I shouldn't eat guacomole and limberg cheese late at night. I'm going back to bed. Good night." The falcon proceeds to the Death Star and all continues as it always has before.

    Prediction:
    I’m hearing a lot of chatter from other YT channels regarding this episode/Osha & Mae’s conception that this is giving way to Darth Plagieus coming into live action, possibly with how he and Palpatine messed with the midi chlorians to conceive Anakin (I’d be excited for this, if it weren’t for Leslye’s show running and writing and the likelihood that THAT is where we are heading here). To be honest, I haven’t been too bothered by this show; I’ve just found it kind of aimless, lengthy, imperfect and unnecessary. But I’ll tell you what will boil my buttons - if they use this show to bring in Plageius and Anakin’s conception - with Mother Aniseya being the one to teach him how to use the dark side/magic (whatever she used) to influence midi chlorian conception, as if he and Palpatine (you know, both males - for now, anyway) were not able to find this ability themselves and needed a POC rainbow witch (force is female, indeed) to guide them. Would totally befit the modern DEI/progressive push Leslye, KK, Lucasfilm and Disney cherish…to their detriment.
    Just a theory, but it hit me once I heard plagieus’s name after watching the episode…and it seems too obvious a possibility for me to ignore

    It is now necessary to categorise Star Wars for the sake of our sanity. There is ‘Lucas Star Wars’, ‘Disney Star Wars’ and, now, ‘Leslie Headland’s “The Acolyte” (well said, Michelle).

    I agree with you. I have said they fooled us because it “looks watchable” until you get into it. I’ve tried to be open minded with every Star Wars labeled show and this one shouldn’t be called Star Wars. The Wookiee and the light saber are the only thing telling me Star Wars in this episode. Well done review!

    bastardising source material to this extent only drives two ideologies further apart, validating both sides while taking away constructive and critical discussion around very important social issues. In this case it seems to have driven away its intended audience. Representation is important but only does the job if it isn't a clown show inclined towards ruining a once phenomena of a cinematic world. Imagine being a part of a demographic, and people now see you, your preferences/demographic as the reason their favourite thing is now a dumpster fire.

    Recently found your channel -- Love it! You communicate your ideas thoughtfully, but also with no BS...its perfect. I definitely agree with your Acolyte Ep 3 opinion. Its malicious disregard for basic good & evil seems like the whole point, and that is the antithesis of Star Wars. Its Leslye Headland: My Story in Space Fanfic. The show is made for one person, Headland. The phonies pretending to enjoy it are just being tribal -- its objectively a terribly written show, besides its immoral world view. Amway -- Ill be checking out your future reviews, fo sho' - Cheers!

    Leslye Headland’s “The Acolyte” is accomplishing what I believe she intends it to do: the desecration of the corpse of the legitimate “Star Wars” franchise, which was killed by the combination of disrespect, contempt, incompetence, and ignorance of Disney/LucasFilm.

    THANK YOU, Michelle!! Awesome review and analysis as always. I fully agree with you. And I may have mentioned this in your previous SW: The Acolyte review, but I'll say it yet again anyway: The Left has destroyed Star Wars, Star Trek, the Bill & Ted Excellent Adventures franchise and many more. Movie and TV shows prequels/remakes/sequels like The Acolyte should be classified as 'Studio-Funded-Activists-Fiction' that does not impact canon. I hope that one day in the not-too-distant future, common sense will again prevail, and these 'woke' offerings will be digitally watermarked as being 'Studio-Sponsored-Activists-Fiction', and are not to be taken authentic parts of the franchises...lol

    The problem is Osha doesn’t really have a good reason to want to be a Jedi. We don’t know how she learned about the Jedi. It just seems really random that she wants to give up her whole identity and culture to be this thing that she knows nothing about. We need some scene, where they show her learning about the Jedi and why she wants to be one so badly. Also fire does not burn stone. Also, if all these witches died from a housefire that would make them really easy to kill, which doesn’t make any sense at all because they are so powerful, they are holding back reason why they died then they shouldn’t hold it back for so long because it just makes the show seem stupid.

    In one episode, there was someone who appeared to be a Sith lord with a red light saber advising the witch girl. It looks like she is joining someone from the dark side of the force so together they can fight the Jedi. This witch-Sith combination will be made to look heroic. This must be some attempt to show female empowerment, but it looks to me like just someone selling her soul to the devil. 😊

    I saw an interview years ago with the guy who was tasked with writing Star Trek 2. They were trying to make another movie after Star Trek the Motion Picture flopped because it didn't feel like Star Trek. So the guy said the first thing he did was get every episode of Star Trek and watch them all. If he was going to write Star Trek he needed to know what made Star Trek Star Trek.

    I think there were some small things that may have been missed. Or I just took it differently than others. The witches are a group that have come up with their own understanding of the force. They think they're right, as most groups do. And while I do not think they believe the jedi are evil, they just don't want them meddling in their affairs. The girls show they are not mature enough to "ascend" as they fight during lessons. The girls' two mothers have an interesting and cryptic conversation about how the children were conceived. One almost uses it as a threat against the other, like do you want me to tell the jedi how we managed this (early cloning experiments?) I think the fire was a big mistake, I think Mar started the fire the witches rushed to see what was happening while the jedi rushed to see if they needed help and a fight ensued because the witches thought their fears were confirmed with the jedi being there when the fire started. So the jedi kill realize after it was big missunderstanding. that one guy is racked with guilt and starts waiting for someone to say 86 yourself. It could also be one mother was completely open to Osha leaving and the other wasn't, the other killed the main woman and then a revolt between the witches broke out. The kylo mask thing with the lightsaber is probably going to be the mother with the horns honestly. Anyway I think Mae is going to have miss placed hatred and a reveal at the end is going to have her question her actions. It is poorly written and it seems it's only purpose is to showcase how every female is superior to the majority of males. I like that you weren't afraid to point out diversity although it is a big galaxy. I'd welcome more aliens rather than more human races.

  • @waynech370
    @waynech370 7 месяцев назад

    I don't get who killed the witches and why? Was the jedi doing it to make sure there's no retaliation? Were they possessed by the horned witch mother to try and stop osha going with the jedi? Either way it's a bit OTT just for one kid lol

    🙎 This show continues the tropes from Rise of Skywalker (power of one, power of two, power of many): the witches give their Force lives to create a Sith Lord vessel who will turn out to be Tenebrous or Plagueis, and the sisters are a Force dyad. At the end, the sisters, or maybe just one, will Force feed the Sith Lord.

    Show dont tell. That is a important thing with writing. Why do these Witches see the Jedi as evil? Granted when it comes to the no father thing, there was that line said "I carried them. Yes but I made them. And what do you think the Jedi will have to say about HOW you made them." So I personally dont think its just midichlorians made the twins, but rather witchy stuff that is more then likely frowned upon. I also have a feeling since it make NO SENSE as to how everyone died to the fire. You said it, the place was made of stone. When it started going up in flame I was really trying to look and I think I saw some wood... but that wood was surrounded but stone and no was it was going to spread as fast as it did.... then again this show wrote a scene where fire was in face... you know the thing that needs AIR to survive. But part of me really thinks they are going to have a scene down the road somehow showing that the Jedi spread the fire and killed the witches. I dont know how they possible could do that but I really cant fathom how the one guy went 10 years of meditation cause of guilt and needing forgiveness. Forgiveness for what?! Showing up to a planet to see if there was force sensitive children and GIVING them the choice to join you?
    Trust me im not defending this show at all. But if you wanted to show us the viewers that the Jedi are as "evil" as our "heros" say they are... THEN DO THAT!!! The entire episode I had my eyes and ears focused on anything the Jedi did or said cause I was HOPING they were going to make them into jerks of some kind. But nope, we got what you think a Jedi would be. Kind, caring and even respectful. They never once said "Yep the kids are force sensitive time to steal them away *twirls mustache and laughs*" Sol even said "Its your choice" Until the itches who I guess are just so hypocritical. They keep saying there is choice. Osha keeps saying "I want to be a Jedi, I dont want to just stay here and be another Mae." But the witches are forcing her to be a witch.... but you just said we all make our choices... unless its the wrong choice I guess?

    Hello, Dr. Michelle. I honestly thought this week's episode was a little better, but more power to those--you included--who despise it. I got a perfect alternative to "The Acolyte": the "Final Cut" fan-edit of the original "Star Wars" trilogy. It's a RUclips search away. You won't be disappointed any further.
