    The OctaTrack is by far the most overlooked powerhouse of live music production. It's allowed me so much more freedom to create on the fly. Beautiful song as well, I love the dark ambient feel of this one.

    That kick is basically perfect. Awesome set. Did you use the arranger at all, or just move through patterns manually?

      Thanks !! I haven't used the arranger of the OT once...but I have no idea why. 🙂 I use the song mode on the Digis regularly.

    Great track ! :) How long usually it takes you to prepare such video, I mean from starting from scratch till the publication? Some walkthrough your workflow would be also nice to see ;)

    • @substan_music

      Thanks a lot !! This varies greatly... A piece on the Digitone... the video recorded in the garden... is sometimes finished in one day. For "more complex" pieces like this it takes me a lot longer... I would estimate 20-30 hours (I can't tell you exactly).

    I would be curious to know what are your thoughts on the Octatrack? Obviously you are very familiar with its workflow but how long did it take you? Are there things you don’t like about it?
    Do you think it’s still a good choice in almost 2024?

    • @shogunai
      @shogunai 9 месяцев назад

      It really depends on what your needs/wants are from an instrument. The Octa is probably in the top 3 most powerful electronic instruments on the planet today still, but it is better at some things more than others, and it is also old at this point.
      Personally, and as someone who is 100% going to buy more Elektron gear, I am waiting for genuinely new instruments. I have a feeling that Elektron are going to release some big stuff in the not so distant future - it has been a long time since we had something geuinely new from them. They have also employed some people recently that make me think they are in the midst of something too... I am hoping for some new flagships, for instance an octa mk3, or octa replacement, with overbridge and more funky features. Basically, stuff to replace their current highest end products.
      So yeah, if where you are going is "should I buy this in 2024", my personal answer would be, unless you NEED it because you are a professional perforaer and it offers a solution for something, then no, not just now.

      @@shogunai This is exactly my thinking. I feel it in the air that there might be something new coming although there's many people out there who claim the opposite. I have actually placed my order for the Octatrack (Black Friday deal) but then they reached out to me, apologised and said they can't get one for me from their supplier. Which made me think it could be a sign? ;-)

    • @shogunai
      @shogunai 9 месяцев назад

      @@user-fi4yd2kf6g Oh wow, well yeah that sure is interesting! Considering they just released the "special edition" takt series as well...
      Tbh its one of 3 things - chip supplies are still short, and other component prices potentially more expensive, they just cant make them. Or they are just wating for new supplies coming in at your store and they are still in normal production... OR they do indeed have new instruments right around the corner!
      I know which Im hoping for haha!

      Thanks a lot !!
      There are definitely so many crazy things possible with the Octatrack that I haven't even begun to explore (and perhaps won't explore).. I feel like I use it in a very "conventional" way. Of course, there are some corners of a device that is soon celebrating its 13th birthday that feel somehow outdated... the effects, timestretch algorithms and converters, for example... but they are still absolutely usable and give the Octatrack its very own charm.
      For me, the learning curve was much less steep than I had feared and read, but of course that depends a lot on your own "experience" and whether you have an aversion to manuals :) ... but what plays the biggest role is what you want to do with it. All the crazy stuff with recording buffers and resampling requires a bit of concentration and brainpower. But the brilliant thing about the Octatrack is that all of these things are possible... a kind of "craziness" that developers of "modern" devices somehow no longer have the courage to do.
      As much as I would like to see a device of similar depth only in "modern" form from Elektron, I have little confidence that it will actually happen. At least the devices that Elektron has released in recent years point in a different direction. However, for me the Octatrack has its own charm/is a timeless piece of art that will continue to be attractive in 2024.

      @boombap08 5 месяцев назад

      To me the octatrack is an instrument and by that metric it is timeless as far as I’m concerned. Ive been late to the elektron game but it doesn’t make it any less useful or game changing. Just copped a new OT after starting with the DT. So far I really like it and the sound. Still seems modern to me and pretty ground breaking now that im wrapping my head around it.
      Also, amazing performance and perspective. Thanks a lot and happy music making everyone.
