Sketchup could use all those nice free plugins out there like freedo, erenoth, 1001bit, etc and incorporate as a native tool in SU. I said that because if you load a bunch of plugins in your machine it can slow SU and even crash. I hope SU buys these plugins and improves them even more, standardize the icons within the program. Can you imagine being able to extrude multiple non-coplanar faces at the same time? Can you imagine having the native toposhaper in SU? It would be really good! It would make life a lot easier!
I go back and forth on this one. Should SketchUp hoover up a ton of tools and build them in? Or, should they whittle it down to the absolute core and focus on making the platform the best it can be for 3rd party developers. I agree though, it would be nice to not have to sort out all these plugins. If I were running the show I would have an official "SketchUp Architecture", "SketchUp Interiors", and "SketchUp Landscape". Bake in the plugins everyone in that field uses, or sell them as one clean add on. Makes sense to me!
@@BrightmanDesigns actually the need for those plug-ins illustrates the limited modeling abilities in sketchup. The moment u leave modeling a cube you hit a wall with sketchup.

i'm afraid I disagree! Been requesting Find and Replace in Layout for about 6 years (when layout became useful), and it's finally here. Not that I'll get to use it at home - I have the last perpetual license. But I'll use it at work where they are on subscription.
@@BrightmanDesigns I'm with you, too. I'm using VBO Workflow, just a bit difference with Condocs Tool. VBO has some tool for LayOut but must use some trick to open LayOut with menu Extension to run Ruby Console.
Seems the sketchup developers always spend the whole year thinking of the worst possible ways to disappoint and frustrate its loyal users. I'm sincerely beginning to believe, like you said, SKETCHUP DEVELOPERS DO NOT USE SKETCHUP. And it shows
Last year, with the license change, I heard that sketchup would take a huge leap forward in programming and developing new modeling and optimization tools. Apparently we were deceived once again and they will still insist on optimizing old things and futile repairs!
Here's a line that got edited out of the final cut... Regarding the new Tag Tool and why it's not needed... It seems to me that over a decade ago the entire professional SketchUp community came to a consensus. we don't assign layers to individual entities. which I suppose this tool would be good for. Instead, it's faster, easier, and more predictable to group all similar entities and apply the tag once. then add new similar entities to the corresponding group, so you don't have to keep applying tags to individual entities. I've been teaching this method for well over a decade. I don't know any professional interior designer or architect who would benefit from this tool. I thought everyone knew this!? Maybe there's other industries that apply layers to individual entities and could benefit from this. But isn't the target audience for SketchUp Pro desktop version Architects and Interior Designers?
@Brightman Designs I agree to a certain extent on the positive review about the clipping improvement (me too use the "isolation mode" a lot). BUT I've found that there's still a lot of cases in which the new improvements don't change the situation that much. Let's say, for example, thet you have to edit a group/component or any subgroup/subcomponent at a given nesting level in the hyerarchy AND you need to inference/snap the model OUTSIDE that group or subgroup to do the job.. then you are still facing problems as in previous sketchup versions. I find myself in the situation I described quite often, so for me is an "improvement", but not the ultimate "solution", and I'll still rely on the camera debug window to actully fix the problem when I'm in trouble (altough I feel that the best solution in 99% of case is to fix/avoid the known issues that are causing the problem "from the root"). What do you think about that?
Hey Mike, thanks for creating the MOG! I've used it daily for the past few months and finally dove into creating my own that better suits my needs. Mainly, I created framing elements that allow me to easily isolate and export framing assemblies for prefabrication. If there were one feature I would like to see added it would be a window to add/subtract elements from the MOG with color coding each element block as a bonus. Regardless, thanks for all you've done with ConDoc.
Love that idea Mike! I am exploring some ideas with light dynamic component functions... Maybe I should break them out into pieces as well so it's easy to drag and drop to build your own? Glad to hear that you have mastered the system and truly made it your own. Nice work and thanks for your support!
I have never knew someone will do the same ctrl+h to hide the rest of the model, is like the most used command for me. If I come up with this without knowing others, Why Trimble hasnt adding as a default comand yet?
Sketchup Pro 2022 for Mac is the first version of Sketchup that I have tried to use. It has been insanely frustrating. For one, there does not seem to be any way to set Dimensions Styles to accommodate scale in a plan. A 1" line is supposed to equal 4', but the Dimensions tool will only measure that actual dimension on the plan and not scale it. All of of the videos that I see where people have a Dimensions Style in their style tray are either using an older version, or the Windows version of Sketchup. Apparently, this is just not an option for Mac. Dimensions Style is not even listed in the Help menu.
The Dimension Style dialog is definitely available on the Mac version! You are commenting on the SketchUp video, but referencing a LayOut dialog. Are you sure you are poking around in LayOut, SketchUp's 2d counterpart?
@Brightman Designs I like this vid, which is honest and unfiltered about how sketchup just keep updating yearly yet still look the same . If there's no active community that makes a plugin for Sketchup whether if its free or paid, the program itself is long dead.
Thanks Un Do! Much appreciated... I call it like I see it! Still love SketchUp though! I have mentioned it a few times, if you want new tools just grab extensions! You could have a new feature every day for the rest of your life. I just wish SketchUp would do more work on the engine to improve speed and stability. The new "tools" this year are really not necessary...
If I'm without a mouse (ie. flying or sitting at a bar) I refuse to work with SketchUp. What takes one minute with a mouse takes ten without. Simply not worth it. The only situation I could imagine more frustrating and time wasting than modeling on a laptop trackpad is modeling on an ipad with a stylus or my fingers. In my opinion tablets are for consuming content, not creating. The SketchUp viewer makes sense, but there's no way I would ever do production work on an ipad... I'm expecting some differing opinions here... Hit me with them! Do you agree?

A few things… as a SU/LO condoc power user one has to question what’s going on with the SU development team. They constantly miss the mark here. 1. The renaming of layers to tags in SU2020 was super dumb. The whole CAD world uses the term layers. Changing layers to tags was epically stupid. I have not forgotten that one. 2. Scene management has been a sore spot for some time. My models have hundreds of condoc generated scenes. The search tool is a step in the right direction but a outline / grouping tool is sorely missing. 3. Section cut management continues to be a disaster. A few simple tools like hide inactive sections when section visibility is on and select orphan sections with the option to delete are sorely needed. I have more but will end here for the sake of brevity. I am still on SU/LO 2020 and can fly thru it. From what I’ve seen here these new small ball features are not enough to get me to upgrade. They really need to up their game if they hope to retain or even grow their customer base.
Just trying to be different!? Many years ago I switched up that selection color on my default DESIGN style. At the time, I was trying to differentiate from the default SketchUp templates when screen grabbing for my book. I think at one point I thought it might help to visually notice if someone is using our template when doing consulting, but that's easy enough to figure out. Probably my first answer is the most accurate...

I don’t think that SU will be replaced anytime soon. There is a large user base and acceptance in the industry. They kinda have a Monopol on it. That’s why Trimble can get away with not really updating the app on areas where it hurts - since years.
Off the top of my head, you might consider adding center point markers for your curves as lines in SketchUp so you don't have to rely on inferencing in LayOut. The SketchUp center point inferences have gotten much better in recent years.
