I grow a US native with gigantic leaves - Catalpa speciosa. It has a jungle or Jurassic look. Unfortunately, exotic plants don't attract pollinators, so I don't grow them but I must admit, your yard does really look like an attractive jungle.

Nice favorites, mine was the Salvia with the blue flowers! Really liked the fox glove, reminded me of elephant ears! They are all absolutely beautiful, always like seeing the irish breeze on your plants!
Try planting High Plateau Coconut Trees. Here in Long Beach, New York City we are USDA zone 7b and we have 8a microclimates by Skellies where we have Cabbage Palmetto (the kind that grows in Florida) and High Plateau Coconut Palm (which isn't a coconut but looks like one and is more hardy).

(Ex. - 2:46) It is quite difficult to orchestrate such a varied 'collection' of plants into a harmonious community which forms a garden. You have succeeded. ~ I understand that Gunnera tinctoria has become an invasive pest in parts of Ireland. Are there other large leafed Gunneras under consideration for Douentza ? Or is their size just to much of a good thing ?
Thank you so much for your super compliments and comments. I only have Gunnera manicata in my garden. Actually it's too dry for gunneras generally in my spot but this plant, as you say has become a real pest in the west of Ireland.
What is the the plant to the left of the Empess Wu @2:14? It looks like some kind of umbrella plant. They love the same damp ground that hostas grow well in
All very beautiful! Does the paulownia always make large leaves after being pruned, even at an older age? Does it start to make smaller ones at some point, or can the pruning always get enormous leaves? The other ones are beautiful too.The hosta is impressive. Smaller hostas are popular here, as they bloom in july/august. We see them almost everywhere. They are beautiful. :)
I believe the paulownia continues to make big leaves indefinitely. There is some talk about the tree being weakened over time through this radical pruning but I cannot comment. hanks for watching and your interest :)
I just looked up the first one and it said it was hardy to zone 8. What's your average winter low? I'm a zone 5 and I think I'd have to dig up roots to store over winter for a lot of things, but sometimes things survive insane conditions like these gingers with red flowers that are growing in the front of an insurance building. It is against a south facing brick wall and the planter is connected to the building, so I'm sure it isn't as cold as it could get, but I literally called them to ask what species or hybrid they were and what they did in the winter. The woman told me that the wife of the owner put them in one year and they just stay in year-round. When I mentioned ,"ginger" the woman was like, "oh is that what they are?ive always wondered." Lol.
Hello and thank you for watching my video. Yes, Tetrapanax papyrifera 'Rex' is hardy to about zone 8. We would be zone 8 in Ireland. Our winters can get to -12 but it is unusual and we had very bad winters in 2009 with temperatures of -17. Trex came back after that winter but I'm sure regular winters with temperatures that low would see it off. Zone 5 is quite a good big colder than that so I don't think these plants are suitable for your garden. As for your ginger, I know that myoga can withstand very low temperatures but it doesn't have red flowers. Now I am intrigued as to know what ginger is so hardy. Do let me know if you ever find out the name.
I'd really like to know what it is too! I tried searching for red gingers online and didn't find any that had the same floral structure, but I really should go take a photo and send it to Ginger growers for ID. IT BLOOMS all summer too. It's amazing.

Tetra Panax is a lovely foliage plant but also grows like a weed here in Sydney.As does Neem trees in northern Australia.

Those are mixed arisaema. The umbrella like leaves belong to the dark pitcher-like flowers to the left.
Paulownia is easy to grow from seed.

Try Johnstown in Naas and Deelish in Cork. But generally speaking the plant fairs are a better bet!
