    Just bought some White Buffalo last weekend in a local Gem and Mineral Show. Looking forward to cutting and polishing up some cabs. Thank you for presenting the differences in white colored stones.

    I have howlite, white tiger magnesite, white buffalo ( from the Royston claim), chalcosiderite (New Lander claim). When cut and sold they are identified and priced accordingly.

    Howlite and "White Turquoise" are definitely not the same thing. The street term "White Turquoise" is a loose term. This can refer to any gemstone that has the same hardness and matrix look as Turquoise that is white. Having said that, true white color Turquoise is very rare and must contain a specific percentage of Turquoise according to GIA.

      White Buffalo and White turquoise doesn't exist. It's howlite. They never showed the actual mine. It's like called an aquamarine "Blue emerald". So if your earrings are howlite, keep them. Howlite is a beautiful gem, not cheap plastic.

    Thank you for this informative video on White/Buffalo Turquoise! I have a vintage pendant with a substantial stone without loupe it appears to poss. be Howlite however in viewing under loupe the veins are small (spider web) some are stark black where 1st glance it appeared to be more gray/silver like the Howlite. I am now confused. BTW, the bail/setting are substantial silver chain may not be orig. but it too is substantial. Any suggestions how to verify this stone? TIA!

      Howlite. Quote:" Sometimes, vendors sell howlite in its natural (albeit unremarkable) state under the misnomer “white turquoise.” Buyer beware. There’s no such thing." www.gemsociety.org/article/turquoise-jewelry-gem-information/ That quote was directly copied and pasted from the International Gem Society page on turquoise, read it for yourself on that page. The poster of this channel is trying to deceive you. Turquoise is never white.

      Angele Ryan I've come across a similar case. It was suggested that White Buffalo is just a new name for Howlite which is being sold at higher prices. I was disappointed with their lack of knowledge. I felt misguided. I've learned to do lots of research when it comes to different material.

      Howlite and White Buffalo/White Turquoise are different stone compositions. They are a whole different stone. Many people try to pass off Howlite as White Turquoise, and maybe unknowingly, but it is not the real thing. There are plenty of websites describing the differences that you may want to peruse. Cheers!

    Does anyone know if Jefferson Abeyta used whiite buffalo turquoise. I have a cuff of his that has a white stone with a light brown matrix. It does not have the howlite gray matrix and has a decent polish to it. From what I understand, white buffalo can have a brownish matrix closer to the center of the rock. Help?

    @rovandamme3027 3 года назад

    As we all know; The composition of turquoise is Hydrated phosphate of copper and aluminum with some including iron thus the blue or green and shades of that color, and howlite is a hydrous calcium borate, and if white buffalo turquoise is a turquoise that has no metals in it, than what is it a hydrated form of? He did say that one piece had high silica and was considered high grade white buffalo. What exactly is the composition of white turquoise?, and specifically White Buffalo? This is not clear.

    • @rovandamme3027
      @rovandamme3027 3 года назад

      Is it just the silica content as opposed to howlite? Because he said it was called opalized calcite. Maybe it's amorphous calcite material? Does anybody have more information about it?

      There is such a thing as white turquoise. It usually appears as part of the same vein of Turquoise as blue or green turquoise. You can see it often in King's Manassa Turquoise from Colorado. I stone will fade from green to white in the same vein or cabochon if cut. If you have this material tested it will come back as Turquoise.

    No existe la turquesa blanca. La howlite no es turquesa, es un borato de calcio con sodio y potasio. Se tiñe la howlite para hacerla pasar por turquesa genuina.

      If it is lower grade turquoise, with not quite all the proper ingredients to make it hard. Then it will turn white over time due to oxidation thus becoming chalky.
