    Protips:
    -Reinforcing plates will prevent the spring adjuster from cracking the aluminum upper arm.
    -Petroleum grease is not for brake parts. Use only silicone paste on the rubber boots and slider pins.

  • @zerotohero7449
    @zerotohero7449 5 лет назад +14

    Coilovers are known to break the aluminium upper control arm on the e46 so you need to install reinforcing plates. The plates just sit between the upper control arm and the bottom of the coilover so are super simple to install, and are cheap too.

    ECS Tuning sells the rear shock mount plate for e46 convertibles it’s basically half of the plate so you can slide it through the holes

    I see you guys did the smart thing and put the rear camber arms in while the subframe was off, hats off to you for the smart move.
    Next time try doing it without dropping the dog and using hand tools with just a floor jack.

    Torquing down all those new bushings at full suspension drop is a good way to tear them up when it gets down on it's wheels again.

    Probably not the best to use petroleum based grease on brake parts. Unless the multi-purpose grease is ok with rubber bits that is. I like using silicone based grease on brake bits better. Love the series! Keep up the great work!

  • @wotteam

    You can put the rear reinforcement plates if you remove the top protector its just 20+ bolts. I have e46 vert too.

    Prime example of why I wear safety toe boots in a shop. Eliminates the need to be mindful of where your feet are placed at all times. Plus I get careless and things hit my feet. It’s way easier to have safety toes and not need them than need them and not have them.

    Unless you reinforced the rear subframe and front shock towers, I'd highly recommend you don't track or race, unless you want some nice surprises in forms of ripped subframe mounts and mushroomed shock towers later.

  • @mas921
    @mas921 5 лет назад +1

    Man oh man, finaly done with the "Rust Wars" lol. About the rear gap, i would realllllllllly recommend going 0/zero to -1 deg MAX of rear camber for even tire wear while drifting, M3s have a rear multilink setup so it goes negative on load/squat. I can eyeball more than -1 on the rear hence the top is but sunken in. With less camber the top should pull out for a more flush look too ^_^

    • @mas921
      @mas921 5 лет назад

      To calculate amount of wheel poke at the top due to camber just:
      poke_inMM = tireDiameter_inMM * sin(camberAngle)

    I normally don't comment on videos but did you use high temperature silicone grease for the caliper slide pins? If you use normal grease you could encounter problems with it baking and not sliding properly.

    • @jedimastersteven
      @jedimastersteven 5 лет назад

      Yeah the grease they used is for wheel bearings and suspension grease fittings, not for caliper sliding pins.
      You guys should definitely used something like Sil-Glyde because thats rated for twice the temperature that bearing grease is rated for. your gonna need it on a drift car lol
