"Fuck around with it a little bit" is unironically the greatest advice anyone can give on a piece of music gear. This sold me on my DR-550 years ago and I have no regrets in buying it. Joke's kinda on him because I DID find it used haha.
My dad died the other week. I'm a professional engineer (meaning I make my living off engineering[mixing/mastering/producing/editing/etc] I inherited my dad's guitar collection and gear dating way back. Found one of these and I want to make a whole album with it. I dont care if the stuff is old, I just wanna commemorate. Thank you brother
Yes. This. Great tutorial! I've had one of these for ten years but I've only used the presets. This tutorial has given me the confidence to go beyond that. You're a good teacher bud! :-)
This was such a great drum machine. They were around 300$ new. It is a crime they don't make them anymore. It was so easy to program measures and songs into it.
Def broke it down thank you. Is the step sequencer a one-way road? Can you add unlimited notes and go crazy but not delete anything added forcing you to just re record a pattern? Im trying to find the manual for it
Your better than the instruction manual man I'll be keeping this video which should of been supplied with the machine instead of the book Thank you . now I know how to fuckin use it . legend man
Thank you soooo much for this tutorial. You just made my $30 dollar purchase so worth it. And yes, the per-programed patterns are stupid. hahahha Have a great day.
Patterns are saved by default, even when powered off, but only so long as you have batteries in it. Take the batteries out and it clears the user patterns. If I understand it right, there is some function where you can output the midi data and save it to a magnetic tape, like with an old Atari computer. Good luck with that!
I'm afraid not, this thing plays factory samples, it is locked, and unless you mod it or something, out of the box you wont be able to add samples to it.
I used this for recording back in 1994-1995. wish I saw this back then. I just let the beats go, programing it was difficult & when it messed up id have to shut the power off & just start from regular settings. it was good for what I recorded, but the drums are too popish & Dance music type beats. Not really good for Metal.
bah, turn the tempo up and change the timing. this thing is like having infinite double bass pedal if you program it right. PS run it out through a pedal to make it fucking nasty.
I seen him do it (shit + clear then ACC) to delete the current song, just wish he had actually said it instead of me having to watch his fingers. The only reason I was here

I watched this video with my wife and now she’s pregnant. Powerful stuff.
"you're like I wanna make my own fuckin patt'n"
This dude is hilarious. His New York or Jersey accent makes it all the better.
You're like "Who gives the shit about a tempo?"
That's exactly what I'm like.

Hey man...great video! How do you save a pattern? Will it save after you power the machine off? Cheers

@@JH-lo9ut thanks pal…I thought I’d saved some great patterns but they all disappeared again.I’ll get batteries and weld them onto it!!😂😂
@@gavintduffy It also has an internal battery, I believe.
is the mk2 much different?
Different set of sounds, more hip hop samples. That's really the only difference
This is a great tutorial. I want to try to get one of these, do you have afoot pedal you use with it or know what kind to get?
i recommend buying an old korg bass multi effects pedal. this plugged into that gives you infinite variations.
tony soprano makes a beat
how do you throw a break in there?
just dont play anything....
Will this plug into a bass amp with 1/4 inch jacks?
Thought it was mark walburg . Doing the verbal
Fuckin saved my life man. Thank you!
Can I call you , so you can help me set it up;
How to save it
fuck it....whatever ...who gives a shit -lol
My....Dude I Have The Boss DR-550 mk2'' Can I Hook My drum machine to my computer laptop ?
Yes, plug the outs into your computer soundcard/interface and record with your daw
thank you so much
ezpickkin i got problems with that, which daw do you use ? does it work with cool edit pro2.0 ?
It would work with any daw that allows you to record audio in. good luck and bless you
its just sending wave files you might need a different sound card, this is old tech
Can you put sample in it?
I'm afraid not, this thing plays factory samples, it is locked, and unless you mod it or something, out of the box you wont be able to add samples to it.
uh. its not a recording device its an electronic instrument.
Good stuff man. The manual is 85 pages and sucks. This helps!
Used to have 1 of these till some toneboner stole it in the early 90's. Still cool machines though. Luckily I still have my R5.
He reminds me of reviewbrah i love it
Shit, that's a fuckin good tutorial
