The funny thing about this game was that it turned out exactly opposite of what the pundits said it would. The conventional wisdom was that the Eagles had the better overall team but the Chiefs had one player Mahomes who could win it on his own. When the game was played, Mahomes had a very good night but not a great one. Instead, the Chiefs outplayed the Eagles all over the field. They ran the ball successfully and schemed such that Mahomes never had to make a difficult throw. The Chiefs had seven possessions last night and scored four touchdowns and a field goal and should have had another field goal. The Eagles vaunted defense didn’t get a single sack and forced one punt. Meanwhile the defense held the Eagles running game to virtually nothing and forced Hurts into one passing situation after another and had Hurts under pressure all night. Take away Hurt's 70 yards rushing and the Eagles' running backs ran for 41 yards on 17 carries. That is an average of 2.4 yards per carry. So much for the Eagles having "the greatest offensive line in the NFL". The Chiefs' front seven absolutely dominated the Eagles' offensive line. The Eagles moved the ball because Jaylen Hurts' legs and ability to make one fantastic throw after another. I am not sure I have ever seen a position group under perform or depending on how you view it be more overrated than the Eagles offensive line was in this Super Bowl. The only reason the Chiefs didn’t win this game in a walk over was Hurts making one big time throw after another and being the only rushing threat the Eagles had. The Eagles not the Chiefs turned out to be the one man team not Mahomes.
I think you are accurate on a lot of counts but need to give Mahomes more credit. He was amazing, 133 qbr in a SB. Only had 1 incompletion in the entire second half. Keep in mind he only had the ball for 1 drive, 8 minutes the entire first half. The Eagles did everything they needed. 38 minutes time of possession vs 22. Hurts had 20 more offensive plays than Mahomes. 20. That easily another 100-150 yards passing for Mahomes. The Chiefs were just insanely balanced and Mahomes made every throw. He only had 6 incompletions the whole night. 3 were throw aways one was a missed penalty, Bradbury on JuJu on that 3rd and 8 and one ball he dirted on a attempt to give his sliding player a catch. If the Time of possession was even I guarantee Mahomes would have had 3-400 yards, hurts would have had 190-250. Final score would have been 50+ to 20 or 30 something. The Chiefs absolutely manhandled Philly the entire second half. Let’s not ignore all the calls that went in phillys favor either. It was clearly a catch the player squared up in a football move got ready to move had the ball knocked out and was recovered for a TD. 7 off the board for the Chiefs. The double clutch catch by Goddard should have been incomplete, he completely let go of the ball and regained control with only one foot inbounds. They got away with a lot of holding on JuJu and Kelce all game. It was finally called in KCs favor. Chiefs all day. I love Philly I think they are a great team. I think Hurts is amazing and I’m excited for him and to see what he does in the future. But you have to give credit where it’s due. Mahomes was definitely the MVP of that game. The way he switched protections call for RBs to block, the audibles, they way he moved the defense. He played a perfect game.
Your analysis brilliant, John, thks. And your emphasis on Hurts' performance is spot on. The guy is phenomenaI (how far behind suddenly appear to be Burrow, Allen, Rodgers, Jackson, Herbert...). I would like to highlight two things: 1 - the Chiefs managed to bring offensive newcomers to elite level in no time (Toney, Moore, JJSS, MVS, Watson) 2 - Mahomes just won his second (2 1/2, actually) post season game (accessorily, the AFC title and the SB) on one leg.

Before mahomes but after reid came to KC, the KCC have always been underrated, truth is they win close games. I know it isn't satisfying that they don't dog walk lesser teams, but they tend to find a way to win.
I was always surprised how they would dominate during the regular season but lose in the playoffs. Then Mahomes came along and helped put all the pieces in place. Live in Minnesota, KC is my favorite AFC team, not that I really much care what the Vikings do.
Chiefs brilliant move in saving Kadarius Toney foe crunch time and he delivered. Longest punt return in the history of the Super Bowl. His lateral and backward juke fried the Eagles. And apart is the quintessential leader and distributor of the ball
The Eagles looked to me like they were desperately trying to hang on to the lead. They needed a big lead going into the 4th Qtr because if it was close you knew the Chiefs were going to find a way, that's what they do
If anything the longer the game went on the more the Eagles were going to get steam rolled LOL. If the game went to overtime the Chiefs would have won IMHO.
Philly was build to rush QB and ignore tuning on them KC proved what niners said for weeks with good qb Philly will give up 35+ points. Kc got the ball out quick and did 6.1 yard/ run
The hurts fumble was big, but its being a bit overstated. If he's sacked or throws an incomplete, it's 4th and 6, they likely punt. The Cheifs could've gotten those 7 points, 4 minutes later, just in a different way.
Yeah I don’t think it even messes with the eagles momentum either because they gave Jalen the ball and let him score the next drive to kinda make up for it. Neither team gave up the whole game which is fun to watch and also kinda devastating too. Nobody likes losing but yikes losing a super bowl is tough. And nobody ever will let you forget about it.
The chiefs won due to a complete package - coaching, scheming, players, leadership. Eagles had a much tighter team from top to bottom, but Jalen’s outstanding individual performance couldn’t override the Chief Total Package. Even if the “call” didn’t occur, there’s no guarantee the eagles would not have blundered again. Speculators be damned.
The biggest problem was the Eagles defense was a no show, you all are low key trying to say Jalen was the reason for the Eagles lost, stop the nonsense smh
The Oline for the Chiefs was working so hard allowing zero sacks from the best sacking team in the NFL. Toney was the secret weapon as promised. The blocking by the running backs and Bell helped alot. You know a team will do anything to win sacrificing their bodies on every 3rd or 4th and 1 even though they did not stop them. Oh also Mahomes and Kelce do not like to be disrespected or told they will lose a game. You can ask the Raiders and Bengals about that lol.
Mahomes and Kelce don't even need to go in overdrive anymore to win SBs... they must be laughing their hearts out. I wonder what Burrow makes of all that. Probably eating his cigars.
The first half felt lopsided...but had hurts not fumbled, he was getting tackled for a loss by Bolton, the best tackler on the field. He dropped the ball because he didn't expect him to be in his face so fast. That would have been 4th and long. They punt. The chiefs drive and score. The 1st half would have felt different if the chiefs had driven down for that td instead of getting the fumble. Chiefs had 3 possessions in the first half. A td, a missed field goal after driving deep into eagles territory, and just prior to the 2 minute warning where Reid lost track of the time and forgot he could still run the ball with 3 timeouts, 2 minutes, and the ball close to mid field. Being one dimensional allowed the eagles defense to play pass only and force their only punt. That fumble changed everything about that first half. It essentially robbed the chiefs of a possession making it feel one-sided. Chiefs moved the ball whenever they had it, outside of one pass happy drive.
Why does everyone say the Chiefs were not the best team? 7 straight AFC WEST Champions, 5 consecutive AFC Championship appearances, and 3 Superbowl appearances in 4 years.... (The Chiefs do not seem to be the worst team.) ... Maybe your east/west coast bias is showing? The experts picked the Chiefs to be 4th best in the AFC west this year.
This Defense picks it up and seems to come through when it counts….teams get a few nice plays off then get over confident and get punched in the mouth! With that said…give credit to whoever is doing the scouting on their draft picks…The late round draft picks are not only playing but Starting along with the rest of early picks….That Insane! This team is set up to keep winning…Sky Moore is gonna be a problem when he gets it all together…Pacheco is running like Marion Barber did…ANGRY! Karlaftis McDuffie Watson Williams and Chenal all played significant time…The Chiefs are going nowhere anytime soon🤷🏻♂️
Sadly looking like Chris Simms' legacy as a player having been a bust who only got the opportunity being his daddy's son will be overshadowed by his legacy as a football analyst having been and stubbornly continuing to be so wrong about Jalen Hurts. Aside from that, congrats to the Chiefs and their fans. That was a really great Super Bowl.
I think the Eagles are laying out a blueprint for a new aggressive style of football. Teams would do well to take a look and figure out ways to copy it. Unfortunately the Chiefs have Mahomes so you just have to be perfect or pray Mahomes is off, which he wasn't.
The chiefs defense couldn’t do anything right in the first half. There was no stopping the eagles. I wasn’t expecting them to stuffing up so much and start to stop the eagles when it mattered most.
Some of these arguments do not make sense, it’s all perception. To say that one team is better than the other is just speculation. The chiefs seemed to have had a way harder schedule so the eagles, were only better in theory. And to say they “should have” been up by 14, is just not accurate. Most people have said they believed the chiefs were the physical team. That was probably or possibly in Hurts’ head. Which literally then caused the fumble, it wasn’t purely a mistake if that’s the case. The physical presence and play of Bolten made an impact. And then he scooped it up and scored. That’s not coincidence most likely. The Chiefs were the number two defense if I’m not mistaken, but wouldn’t they actually be higher then that, if it were possible to actually measure strength of schedule? They actually may have been the better defense in theory, but not perceived as such. If you look at the stats they had 1 sack and the eagles had zero. So they were better in that category. A lot of these perceptions are not fully based on reality a lot of the time, it’s based on hype. And ease of schedule seemed to play a part in the actually game. They did not get a sack. But they did in all their other games. So we say they did not perform when it mattered the most. Or they got outplayed. Those things matter! The chiefs having less stats during the season may have nothing to do with their skill level and way more to do with who they played. We see who the better team was. Literally by definition who ever wins is the better team. They played better. They won the micro battles, Mahomes played with the calls from the coach, and the receivers and others involved played so that it allowed him to accomplish those things. It all interconnected, but we are pathetic and isolate and individualize everything instead of looking at it with all the pieces. The chiefs are better. They performed better from top to bottom. The eagles being the better team is all theoretical until in the game, reality is shown. We have categories and say oh the eagles let up, or didn’t show up in the second half and they should have done blah blah blah. That is all theoretical. How you perform and respond to the circumstance is live and if you have never been there, you can still do it better, but if you don’t, then that means you’re not better. If I let a lead influence my play. I am n it better than the other team. I am just winning at the moment. But if I soften up, then I’m not better, my mentality is weak and it has an effect on everything
The argument that the Eagles were running away with it, if it wasn’t for Bolton’s recovery/TD is just silly. At this point of the game, each team had one drive with a punt and only the Eagles’ start with the ball gave them a score lead.
So, these guys who get paid millions of dollars for their expert analyses and commentary are wrong, but Peter Parker from RUclips who still lives in his mother's basement is right, uh?
First off! The EAGLES didn't let the CHIEFS hang around. The CHIEFS are a great team. It wasn't as if they were there due to some charity event. That CHIEFS O-Line has been underestimated for the prior 2 weeks. And if you go back and look at the game there were plays where CHIEFS' tackle Wylie actually had some of Philly's best D-linemen pancaked! The ultimate show of offensive line domination! And I want to point out this talk about MAHOMES being shot up with some enhancements at halftime. This just shows that this guy Florio has not a shred of athlete in him. Old saying. When the going gets tough, MAHOMES GET GOING!
Philly may have had the best 53 man squad, or not...Chiefs had 8 underrated rookies and a ton of underrated 2nd/3rd year players. Philly had a bunch of old guys that used to be good. Chiefs easily had the best starting 22 + special teams. Philly's stats were padded with cream puff wins all year. Philly repeated used a play that is pure exploitation of the rules in order to keep drives alive. That play will be nerfed before next year. Eagles were the purest example of the word, overrated.
The Eagles weren’t the better team. They lost. Mahomes hardly had the ball in the first 45 minutes and the Eagles got some great plays that maybe they don’t always make. The Chiefs were the best team down the stretch and it showed in the result.

People keep talking about time of possession like it matters, when will people realize that it means precisely nothing.
Especially these days when the NFL wants the ball thrown every play.
Great segment 👏
Mahomes QBR 131.8 Hurts QBR 103.4
Both Elite QB’s. Great to have these studs in the league
did the quality get better? i feel like the show doesn't normally look so hd
new phone/device?
I have a feeling this won't be the last time these two meet in the big game
Chiefs brilliant move in saving Kadarius Toney foe crunch time and he delivered. Longest punt return in the history of the Super Bowl. His lateral and backward juke fried the Eagles. And apart is the quintessential leader and distributor of the ball
The Eagles looked to me like they were desperately trying to hang on to the lead. They needed a big lead going into the 4th Qtr because if it was close you knew the Chiefs were going to find a way, that's what they do
It’s funny how so many people felt the Eagles were far superior. Chiefs have the best player in the game and a team that just won’t quit.
Many people rooted for the Eagles because they secretely hate successful guys.
I won my playoff pool
Thanks for the assistance

And would’ve given their defense a rest by scoring on offense.
@@troyduffie3836 Such a great point!!
great point.
Come as team mates...leave as family...
That was holding. Fight me
The chiefs won due to a complete package - coaching, scheming, players, leadership. Eagles had a much tighter team from top to bottom, but Jalen’s outstanding individual performance couldn’t override the Chief Total Package. Even if the “call” didn’t occur, there’s no guarantee the eagles would not have blundered again. Speculators be damned.
I'm a Chiefs fan of 40 years. Without that fumble, even if Philly still loses, Hurts would have deserved the MVP.
The biggest problem was the Eagles defense was a no show, you all are low key trying to say Jalen was the reason for the Eagles lost, stop the nonsense smh
What about chiefs D? They allow that big time of discrepancy? There was jalen converting all those third downs.
"It had no business being 14-14."
🤷♂️
Sometimes players fail and make mistakes. Speaking in these dogmatic absolutes drives me crazy.
Philly Defense let them down Big Time
The Oline for the Chiefs was working so hard allowing zero sacks from the best sacking team in the NFL.
MAHOMES SAID, HE DID NOT TAKE A SHOT AT HALFTIME.
You guys act like eagles could have kept driving if Jalen doesnt fumble lmao
He's right 24 14 shouldn't be the score!!! Should of been 21 17 for the chiefs!!! Since that wasn't a fumble wink wink
Quez also drops a ball that gives them a 1st and goal.
What alot of people are missing is that the Chiefs out rushed the Eagles in this game. The eagles could not sop the run game of the chiefs all night.
Mahomes Reid stock ⬆️ this season... while Tyreek Hill stock now looks way OVERvalued.
The fumble and the great run on the punt won the game for the chief's.
The was also that third down drop by the Birds, going for a field goal instead of a touchdown and the two busted coverages in the red zone
If the Chiefs get another super bowl in the next two years, it’s definitely a dynasty at that point. CHIEFS! Burrow who? Allen who?
Eat it phili fans eat it!!
Hope Mike and Chris do baseball too!
I thought the game was over when Eagles were up 24-14 and Mahomme got hurt in 2nd quarter.

Mike, you were wrong and Chris, once again you were correct. Next………
Nice analyses, now we all know why the game is played for 60 minutes rather than 30 minutes.
Congratulations to Chris for being correct about Jalen Hurts all season 👏👏
Hurts played better then Mahomes arguably
@GRVY Wear lol. He fumbled for a Chiefs TD, but okay I guess? 👍🏽

let's not forget about Tim Tebow though, I mean, what a player!
Jalen would be the first MVP for a losing team... he was brilliant
Dallas linebacker won the MVP back around SB X after the cowboys lost.
Hurts blew the game with his fumble.
The entire Kansas City metro area went silent when Mahomes went down just before halftime.
6:25 that’s not right… you switch the ball to the outside arm to get it away from the defender not so the ball can go out of bounds bro lol
Haha exactly what I was thinking, but Florio has obviously never played football.
Well, he wasn't as good as you, but he admits he wasn't good, and jokes about it.
Simms is right. KC has never been a big favorite in a SB unlike some multiple win teams.
I knew the Chiefs had it in the bag when Mahomes came out in the 2nd half without a limp.
the Chiefs' OL were dominate agianst a team they were expected to get destroyed by.
Gannon and his awful zone coverage was eaten up by mahomes so dam frustrating he was completely out coached
Not interested in "Peacock"
With a defense of score, eagles offense goes back on field so of course they will have possession time..
Chiefs took their best shot.. and came back.
I think the Eagles are laying out a blueprint for a new aggressive style of football. Teams would do well to take a look and figure out ways to copy it.
Unfortunately the Chiefs have Mahomes so you just have to be perfect or pray Mahomes is off, which he wasn't.
The eagles play just like the Ravens, it wins until your players get hurt. Jackson is ruined, and Hurts will join him soon.
@@donarmstrong2182 yup they just got a QB who may be a little more accurate throwing the ball
@@donarmstrong2182 I don't necessarily mean running your QB but more moving away from punting as a rule.
The chiefs defense couldn’t do anything right in the first half. There was no stopping the eagles.
I wasn’t expecting them to stuffing up so much and start to stop the eagles when it mattered most.
It would have been awesome to see KC up 3 with the Eagles having to score on a 2 minute drill to survive
Agreed from top to bottom the Chiefs played better. We only have situations. Nothing is a vaccuum
The chiefs have 100% been the lesser team in every Super Bowl because of the defense. But in 2/3 they’ve had Mahomes
defense came up big in the 2nd half tho and right before the half
Uhm yeah... that's the way the team was built...

We also missed a field goal and had a fumble overturned
The argument that the Eagles were running away with it, if it wasn’t for Bolton’s recovery/TD is just silly. At this point of the game, each team had one drive with a punt and only the Eagles’ start with the ball gave them a score lead.
So, these guys who get paid millions of dollars for their expert analyses and commentary are wrong, but Peter Parker from RUclips who still lives in his mother's basement is right, uh?
Kansas City is just a better second half team
Kansas City’s offense moved the ball at will in first half,It didn’t matter the Eagles couldn’t win regardless against this Squad!

Florio never lifted nor pressed more than 10 pounds in his life, and it shows, figuratively and litterally.
Everyone on the fox set choose the eagles
Philly may have had the best 53 man squad, or not...Chiefs had 8 underrated rookies and a ton of underrated 2nd/3rd year players. Philly had a bunch of old guys that used to be good. Chiefs easily had the best starting 22 + special teams. Philly's stats were padded with cream puff wins all year. Philly repeated used a play that is pure exploitation of the rules in order to keep drives alive. That play will be nerfed before next year. Eagles were the purest example of the word, overrated.
Florio looks high as hell
I don't think people realize how tough 4 games or a messed-up shoulder that Jalen hurts played and costly keep getting hit after hit every single game

The Eagles weren’t the better team. They lost. Mahomes hardly had the ball in the first 45 minutes and the Eagles got some great plays that maybe they don’t always make. The Chiefs were the best team down the stretch and it showed in the result.
