@RCSAutoworld- I have always liked color contrasting, vs all 1 color, as Borat would say, "Very Niiiiice" Also, it was an unexpected, cool touch, for them to powder coat those intake bolts, great color combo. Not many will ever notice the slight color difference, if you don't mention it. Can't wait to see the E.t. Improvements, from cal-tracs, adjusted right, adding the drag tires, and finally the new intake. Great video, bud.
THANKS MAN. I think you’re right. It will come out great. The last video I uploaded was a disaster. My tune got slower with the extra mods. That’s because I didn’t dial anything in. Computer shifting when it wants even when I’m in 1st manually. Spinning off the line with a poor 60 foot, and I’m super heavy. Next one will be faster though absolutely.
@@RCSmith90- Oh definitely, i could hear the Rpm/shift points were way low, and all over the place, plus traction issues. Does this engine like 5,500Rpm shifts?
@@RCSmith90- 5,200Rpm @ least, so that the rpm does not drop to low, on the gear change, especially since your truck is so heavy. Try shifting @ 5k, so that by the time it actually shifts, its @ 5,200Rpm. See if that helps keep it in the power band. Your dragy will tell you if it likes it.
@@RCSmith90 - A totally stock vortec 5.7 Liter, peaks hp @ 4,600 Rpm. Recommended shift points, for drag racing, are approximately 400 to 600 Rpm, past peak Hp. So 5,000 to 5,200 Rpm.
Ay yo, I preciate your videos, as toy already know I got 96 obs vortec truck and you inspire me to keep modifying the "boat anchor".😂 keep going, we right behind ya...
My L31 based 383 resents being called a boat anchor. Truth be known there are a lot of cam/head 6.0Ls that would not touch it in a 1500HD or 2500HD that weighs the same as my Express van.
I would love to see an in depth video of the install, including everything you needed to buy that would make it compatible. Im trying to go through with the swap on my truck and have no clue where to start
Its a lot of info. I probably could summarize it more but I didn't want to end up missing some key info. If you go and look at my part one video that explains a lot as well. I'm going to record every step of the way with my setup. My schedule is horrible right now. I definitely will be installing this bad boy though.
Hey man awesome build! I know your gonna get to this but where you planning on wiring it straight to the injector plug on the truck side? As in cutting off the block connector? Keep it up!
So the wiring harness, do you need to pull the wiring harness and simplify, what about the computer??? I would love to run this setup on my blazer k5, i dont like the efi system that’s out there😅
I wish it was simpler but I think you have a TBI motor right? When you say K5 I’m thinking square body. I always wanted a K5 but ended up getting a square body suburban. So for you to run this you would have to have a SBC Vortec wiring harness that came in the 96 and up OBS trucks. If you had that as a base line then this marine swap would be pretty simple. You would tap in to the existing injector harness wires.
As far as the water pump, that top port gets blocked off. From what I read it helps with getting warm coolant to the heater core sooner. As far as just starting the true and turning on the heat. I read it long ago so I don’t remember verbatim the exact wording. I just knew it isn’t necessary and doesn’t cause you to loose heat. I’ll have an instillation video when I get time to install it.
I actually didn’t get a chance to install it yet. Also I don’t have a dyno spot yet so everything is off of me doing quarter mile runs and comparing times.
It does not gain much on a stock engine, once you add good heads, rev the engine out, add cubic inches or forced induction it comes alive. A ported stock L31 manifold fed my 383 to 450 hp with the stock MFI upgrade injectors and about 500 hp on E85 with a AUS 48 lb/hr spider. I later swapped back to the marine manifold and it pulled slightly better on the top-end above 5,000 rpm. I wanted to see 500 hp at the crank with the stock truck manifold before moving on. I put down 412 whp and 430 wtq through a 4L85E and GM 10.5 FF 14-bolt so it was easily there. I am actually at a point the stock Express van throttle body air hat bonnet is a big restriction. About to replace it with a K&N intake adapter flange and a cobra head. Not much room between the top of the throttle body and the firewall on an Express van.
