I was burnt out and then met 2 people to fly with and now I look forward to every Sunday....relit the fire and created competition and pushing us to progress
For real. I think there's a pretty strong community around me but being, also 54, I don't seem able to connect with anyone to fly with. I can go to the races but still sit around mostly by myself and coming in last doesn't get anyone's attention.
I feel the same but if you did have someone to fly with us like smoking crack with sometime else you didn't want to share with anyone else. I'm 1 of 3 people in my city who say they want to fly with others but when you go fly and call those people up they're not in the mood to come fly but if you have the crack they want their there
The thing that really invigorated my passion for flying again was doign long distance into the mountains. It's just as adrenaline-y as 5 inch, but for different reasons (like the feeling like any wrong move will lose your quad forever!). It's a whole new skillset to learn, plus lots of new goals and things to try. There is nothing like being 10 feet away from a scraggly mountain peak, seeing it from a perspective that no other human has ever seen, or flying between the giant cracks of a 10,000 year old glacier. . Plus the gear! Not everyone has access to mountains, but there are other interesting long distance things you can try. Oh, and if anyone is ever in BC, look me up and I'll take you out to some epic mountains :)
1:53 flying fpv is like doing a drug you NEVER had BEFORE but get tried of it but never sell your gear unless your getting married or on probation it's the same thing that a break cause you'll always fly again.
Doing a drug!! How true 👍 MY WHOLE CHANNEL IS ABOUT HOW #DRONESSAVEDMYLIFE FROM 26 YEARS DRUG ADDICTION, IT GAVE ME STRUCTURE, A RUSH, PROBLEM SOLVING AND CHANGED MY LIFE! IVE HAD SO MANY COMMENTS OF PEOPLE COMMING OUT ,BEING HONEST, AND SAYING THE SAME! GREAT COMMENT♥️🫡
Cheers! I just picked up my FPV gear that’s been stored in a box for over 3 years. So much has changed, almost overwhelming at times and have forgotten most of my configs on my radio. It’s a fun discovery/learning curve for me again.
I’m about to do my first flight of a fixed wing in about 2 hours. I’m excited and also expecting to completely smash it to little foam pieces before I finish the 4 batteries I charged.
I’ve had similar thoughts recently - I’ve been flying 5” with the DJI system for over 2 years now, always at the same spots. But recently, I got myself a pair of analog goggles and started flying whoops. That feeling of getting an adrenaline rush again while flying a 65mm whoop in a public place was so refreshing, and it reignited my passion for flying. I can also say that making RUclips videos and interacting with the community really helped with my burnout too. Anyway, Bot, great video, and I 100% agree!
Rad you mentioned Kiteboarding! I've been Kiteboarding for 25years now and flying FPV for the last 4years. I was going to mention it on one of your previous videos; but the similarities between the two hobbies are a lot on a mental level, controlling a kite at the same time as riding a board is basically like having your hands on the two sticks on a controller. The two hobbies go hand in hand and have helped me keep from burning out on either or.
i took a break from flying and got into RC cars. recently i picked up my 3" again and it was so much fun. Great video. I'm excited for your crawler content
bro i fell out of fpv and just flew for the first time in a year today and im stoked on it again! its good to divesify your hobbys man keeps shit fresh. Bikes are cool but will never match the feeling of rippin with the goggles down.
Honestly, I love the videos you do that incorporate other hobbies, especially the biking. We recently got in to biking hard, mountain and fat tire to be specific and we are loving it. You are so right, it's totally okay to not always fly, take a break, do something else, but we'll never quit flying either, it's to fun. Crawling just took a new turn as well, put fpv on a crawler and just sending it all over our new property has been a blast. I cannot wait to see your biking videos, I was watching the IG stories you were posting with Grimm, badass. I think you could vlog anything and get an audience outside of fpv, you are super entertaining and always funny. Keep having fun, keep doing what you want to do and most importantly, keep sharing your adventures cause you are helping us even though you may not realize it. Much love homie!🥰
Remote ID pissed me off. So I just quit. I have attended 3-5 events per year before. This year NOTHING. I let my part 107 expire and could care less. I started in 2014. Just sick of government BS. Am I done for good? Probably not. My wife has cancer and it's not sunshine and roses. It's just not as important. I kinda got into mini computers and linux. My soldering iron is still busy. I build solar battery computery stuff and virtual machines now mostly. All my friends have moved on and grown up. I still watch all you guys and will probably be back. The way the laws are I will never renew my 107,. Which means I don't have to have module for each drone. The folks I know from FPV personally like you and others I watch often. I almost never watch Bardwell or Rotor Riot now because I'm not looking for new gear or have a problem to fix. I love the people in the hobby and really care how they are doing. I was at a family get together a while ago and 3 different people called me the drone guy and ask where my drones are and I said they died and I quit. I privately cried inside. It hurt. It's like a part of me died. I might rise like a Phoenix some day with a new quad and It'll probably be therapy for me again. I've got to be here for my wife and family for now. I've flown like 5 packs this year and that may be it for a while. Love the videos and I'm still here WATCHING.
Whats weird is, a good chunk of my mates have all gone back to analog just for the spectating aspect, it's so good to watch your boys fly. I will say for myself it's 50% improvement and 50% the feel of flying that keeps me in, even if you're doing basic shit it just feels so nice getting a few packs in at a familiar spot
hEY mr DJ ! Lookin freakin great buddy! All that riding is doin wonders for you. Hope all is well, out west in AZ, reminiscing those days of trips to Nevele, gates and such.
Man i fr needed to see this, its been about a year since i last flew, i F***ed up bad, finished my pack, landed took off the goggles sat my TX down went inside, got high. it rained. :'( i forgot to unplug EVERYTHING. so all toasted. instead of replacing everything been on a break. (no pun intended) instead of FPV parts, ive been buying cannabis seeds and grow equipment. but now im busting out the whoop and going to find that old af Flysky TX lol, Much love homie stay safe
Thank you so much for this, Bot! i needed to hear this and wanted to let you know how much i needed it! I have been looking for a "long term hobby". Something I can do as i get older. I have been struggling to find that *one thing*. But listening to you helped me to realize something. I have a *_whole host of options_* for hobbies! Looking back at everything I've spent the time to pick up, i can fall back on any one of them. I've certainly burned out on FPV a bit... I have a quad with one wire that needs soldering and I'll be up and flying again - haven't had the urge. Anyway... One of these days i hope to make use of the $2k i invested in the drone park. Maybe I'll bring my RC car that has been sitting with a stripped pinion gear (Bubby did it!!) since Rampage 2022. Anyway, thanks man! You told me what i needed to hear right when i needed to hear it. 🤘
It's funny what you said about rock collecting. That's me. I need to go to interesting places to find rocks (fossicking) and I always take my toys with me. The two hobbies compliment each other especially because travel is required. I just got back flying at opal fields! Good luck working it all out mate.
I'm learning a bit more every day Bones. I think I have worked out how the controller works now and flashed it and stuff. Very steep learning curve for an old dummy. Acronyms galore.
I started flying at the start of 2017 and have got a stack of quads and gear too, I've had and I'm currently going through a bit of burn out, I haven't flown at all this year mostly because I am fed up of flying the same boring spots all the time, but I have been getting the itch to charge some packs and go rip recently. I'll never sell the gear that I have because I know that I'd only end up regretting it because I know that this is just a phase I'm going through, and I'll definitely get back into flying again.
I haven’t flown in about 5 months, just got over it and the weather was crap for about a year. Have gotten back into crawling again, forgot how much fun it is to walk through the bush and scale rocks and root, plus I’m going to FPV it in the near future. plus the exercise. I agree with not getting rid of gear, I know I’ll eventually fly again. But I’m not stressed about when..
good sh** homie, I nneeded this. Ive been burntout and my bag has been sitting in the bottom of my closet but I need to pick that shit up and put one in the air. Glad you take the time to make videos B and glad there is someone like you out there championing the hobby for us. KIR
I agree so much with everything Botty. I been flying whoops and small cinewhoops because of ease of setup and finding a location. Flew my 7" drone MAYBE twice this year. Still love FPV will probably never quit. Dont ever stop making videos, love your crawling ones.
Im DroneSkinz and I, I, I approve this message. Thanks, Bot, for this. I definitely needed to see and hear this. My other thing on the side has been 3D printing, and I enjoy it a lot. Hopefully, there will be no burnouts on this hobby!
I have ADHD and as soon as i discovered fpv i hardcored it, i was unemployed at the time. as soon as i started working again, to buy more gear, i have build evrything i want, flown small to big drones and learned alot but after that didnt know what to do know. i have paused for a year did little things. But this year i started to fly more again and its beautiful. i enjoy just flying around and started to train planes. But this time slowly. 4 inch LR with ca 25min fly time is my go to now
My biggest problem blocking me from fpv is cost. I am a student and I finally have a good ELRS Radio, good Analog goggles (HDO with furious module) and a decent whoop (Meteor85). But once the VTX gets ripped apart I have to wait for weeks before the new one arrives because of the month-long shipping times. Also few people around here fly and those that do aren't the nicest, and can't understand why I'm not thousands deep into digital. Still going to the skatepark and ripping some packs is the best thing so I always power through haha. Also got 2 of my friends motivated but that'll take a while. Thanks for the content, always keeps me entertained while I wait! < 3
Seems managable. Wait Till u have 8,9,10 Quads and Start getting issues 😅. I have Had 3 HD Units die in me from one day to another and need to Ship EM Back wich cost me 60€ alone without knowing IT gets fixed
Don't let anyone with a bigger wallet than you tell you what to fly. More or more expensive gear doesn't make better pilots. In my experience more money mostly means less manners and less talent. Go fly analog (best sytem to learn with anyway) and in no time you'll be flying cicrcles around them.
I went from flying 10 packs a day to present day where ive only flown twice this year...i still have a passion from flying and still dind myself watching fpv related videos and follow up on the fpv facebook geoups, but i juat get so lazy to actually go out and fly. As a dad with a full time job and a crazy schedule, i hope it changes and i get the urge to fly more again
Usual trash video. Love it! Your totally right about burnout. I went hard on FPV quads for 6 years and got totally burnt out. Moved to RC cars and had a blast for a year. Even FPV'ed a couple of them. 10th scale race truck, 10th scale oval car, crawlers, 18th scale racing stuff. After a year though, I got that itch to get back in the air. Went hard again for awhile and was already feeling that burnout after a year but didn't want to get out of the air. Now I'm flying FPV wings and back in love with it again. My quads are are the shelf, just need a pack to fly. I pull em out now and then for some fun but you've gotta move around the different aspects of the hobby to stay fresh. Whooping is on my todo list though but I wanna upgrade to HD first so I can record it. Analog is still soooo trash for recording!
Started with scx24 as my gateway. Crawler, racers, scale crawler, fpv drone ,now ft planes with crashed fpv parts. Scratch build from garbage when cash is low 👌
That’s the beauty of this hobby…it’s a hobby. It’ll be there when you want to take part and you can sit back and do other stuff when you aren’t feelin it.
I'm in year 4 and currently addicted to 7" freestyle. I'm not "good", but getting 9 minutes of fly time off a 1300mah 6s battery (7035 bi-blades) is fantastic compared to 4 min off that same battery on 5" tri-blades. Plus, 7" is FAST!
I’m on a forced hiatus. ALLL my rc gear got stolen except my great grandfathers sailboat (though they took the radio) I lost 2 5” drones, 2 3” drones, a crawler, a drift car, and a prerunner. I still have my headset but all my good radios are gone too. I’m devastated and still try not to think about it
My mate Botgrinder you're getting philosophical AF... and I love it! I don't think there is anybody else in this hobby who would bring up topics like you are. Well maybe Stew from UAVFutures, but I like you approach to FPV and life better. :) Thanks for great video! You know what? Fuck my job now for 10 minutes and let's go rip my Tinyhawk (tuah) II through my flat - I'm at home office today so noone cares except me. And by the way, this last weekend I spent with my father and I gave him to try my FPV hovercraft which I made out of my old brushed tinywhoop. He totally loved it!
I found the liftoff micro playground expansion gave me a massive boost! I can never get to use my whoops at my playgrounds and it’s just so damn fun on that map - and they just released the mob7 and have the fractal 75 which is my jam
I was gonna get into the hobby 4 years ago and shit just came up and I forgot about it, am recently getting into it for real and I can't believe how many more options there are over that short 4 years, im pumped. Always wanted the 5 inch monster, but after learning on sim and watching videos I feel like a whoop- 3" is fine for me, shit u can set up race tracks for that size in ur house or backyard or local park, gorilla whoop, its more forgiving and the tech is there now. 5"+ would def be a thrill, but imma focus on smaller shit for now. I also think like a 13" long distance quad would be cool to just go to the mountains with and explore around
i started i think 2011 with home made micros the fpv cam and tx where 120 euros back then and did the 5 inch racing thing even had sponsors but 2019 i stopped flying only some times fly a micro in the house or in my garden
I've just taken a 3 week break from flying, partly due to a new job but also because it was starting to feel like a chore. Finally went for a rip this morning and it was amazing again. burn out is real but like you said, the gear doesn't go away.
So true, I have my times where I don't feel like flying for awhile (usually around this time of the year when the summer/fly season is ending) but then when the feeling comes back after a few weeks and and fly my first pack I get the same endorphine kick as when I started out
2 Vids a month seems more than reasonable, theres always those ideas that are fun to shoot and make that ya can put out regardless. Ive heard that putting an fpv camera in rc airplanes is pretty fun, dont remember where I heard that tho...lol xoxo
That’s exactly what I’ve been going through. I’ve played guitar since I was 12 and in my early 20’s thu my mid 30’s I was a lead singer in a rock band for 15yrs. Then the bands broke up and I got into drones but not before I got into Rc heli’s and wing aircraft and Rc cars. Flite test was a whole identity at one point. But I’ve been burnt out for a while. Things not helping are Ripping the same few spot plus all the regulations slowly crushing the hobby, and lack of new innovation. I’ve been flying less and less and slowly getting back into making music. Hopefully I don’t suck at that now too 😂 I’m right there with you brother. Keep on keeping it real. Peace ☮️
I spent way more than I wanted to on my hobbies.. But it was the right move.. I own 2 expensive MTB'S one is shit on the road because its too heavy and meant for actual downhill shredding, the other is more of a cross country bike.. Couldnt make 1 do it all.. Same for rc.. I have a drone, a flying wing setup for fpv also.. then a big glider, a fast jet, a slow cruiser and a 3d hucking machine.. That diversity really helped me stay interested in those hobbies for sure..
I feel this...I've been on a ~2 year hiatus, but lately I have been getting the urge to rip 🔥 I think it is time for me to dust off the old gear and see if my batteries still hold a charge 🏄♂
Been feeling burnout for a while, spending more time with my motorcycles. New gear sounds like an idea but getting new gear is part of what turns me off. Many times when I want stuff its not available.
I steped away because my stupid whoop HDZero ECO thing took 5 months to show up and I quit FPV while waiting. Now i was thinking i was rich because bitcoin went up and i sold some then bought the Mobula HDzero freestyle whoop and im back! Now im 3d prining a wing and going to put the stupid shit that took forever to show up in it
Glad u created this video, i put it down to manic deppresion, but when i look at my sad eyed drones, they look back at me saying "fly me flyyy meee, please" I now know im not fkin CRAZY! THANKS BOT
Not alone homie, try slot cars!! Hella fun and not as easy as it sounds. I have a BTTF DeLorean that's the fastest car on the track, 1/32 & 1/24 scale...
Same spots burn me out too. I found whooping playgrounds to be refreshing and way less stressful than finding a 5" spot. Do what you gotta do, I know you'll come back with a renewed passion for shredding the sky. 💎👍
did four intensive years just to take a forced break this year. did become a certified intervention dog leader and did my amateur radio license. also did lots of beach camping. though, feeling seriously bad for not having done any flight this year. think its because fpv is so intensive, makes you feel ashamed for not progressing. regards
I got sick and tired of the undiscussed video competition we seem to be having and the attitude of many that I met regarding videos. "If you ain't putting up vids you ain't flying" Eff that. My quads have been in the closet for a while, Oct will mark 2 years I have just let them sit there, flying was fun and I will do it again (also on tracer :) ) after we move from the west coast this spring, but I don't see it becoming a passion again. The new passion will be developing the 167 acres we will be homesteading on.
Nice one Bot. You're not a grumpy old man. Check out the JJRC C8809. It's a clone, but runs great out of the box. And is cheap. Maybe some new cheap oil shocks, but apart from that, it's well worth a look. 👍
I go to the bar, fly around outside, if the bartender is chill, they let me fly inside. I constantly get the, "oh wow, that's cool, how does it work?" But I haven't seen any other pilots.
You could pivot to anything, especially counterculture- which is why it would be funny to see you do a video in this style, but something mundane like the quality of shopping carts at Target.
I build something everyday, quads wings etc, but can't remember the last time I flew. I feel like the issue is the liability with all the new federal regulations remote ID and all that, just problems I don't need in my life.
I’m Zoroe and I approve this message.
At 54 y/o, I am there now. I think most of my problems come from always having to fly by myself all of the time... I still love it though.
ditto

I just finished my grinderino build this morning. Flew my only two 4s packs today and being a beginner, I think I might like it more than my 5”.

I have to admit money and inflation is a factor too. Next quad I get will be SUB 250g.
Like he says, it will be waiting for you when your in a better place. For now you need to be with your family. Wish you all the best.

I love that quick edit of tiny you stuck to the back of the kid on the bike and still just talkin about drones lol
Great video. I think people will watch whatever you post for the most part because they just like seeing what you're up to and enjoy your content. 🤘
Ah, time to dig out that old CC3D FC and those HK Blue 15A ESCs to update my ZMR250.
totally feel ya , thats why i do electicskateboards and guns too !! great insight !!
been going through some serious burnout. watched this video this morning and went out and ripped 8 packs today. feels good man.
Awesome!
4 inch LR with ca 25min fly time is my go to now
Why do I all of sudden have the urge to get a grinderino?
Have you done any like intro to crawlers video? Or point us in a direction to learn more about them?
@@flyingdutchmanfpv I love my analog. Most modern pilots seem to NEED highest definition and quality. Motion blurs and so on and forget about flying
6:57 i can't find this video online, where is it from?
7:16 IKEA is what he means
That shot above the spillway @ 6:30 is causing vicarious butt-puckering... Nothing unleashes the adrenaline faster than flying over water!
ALLL my rc gear got stolen except my great grandfathers sailboat (though they took the radio)
I lost 2 5” drones, 2 3” drones, a crawler, a drift car, and a prerunner.
Thanks for great video!
Amen....So True
Well said!
This is exactly the video I needed to see!
One love brother so glad you are making videos
04:47 For some reason I feel like buying a grinderino!
Man even the Shitty Flute is burned out.
i started i think 2011 with home made micros the fpv cam and tx where 120 euros back then and did the 5 inch racing thing even had sponsors but 2019 i stopped flying only some times fly a micro in the house or in my garden
Dude.
im just watching for the editing now.
Whoever is busting the edit for you now is sick as.
lol ive always done my own editing
@@BOTGRINDER Swear tfg, you could probably be doing that for money.
i was lol'n at bot on the bike.
Ive heard that putting an fpv camera in rc airplanes is pretty fun, dont remember where I heard that tho...lol xoxo
i just desinged and build a hexa copter that can freestyle and tomorrow i go trippy spinning with it
shits doesnt get boring if you dont stop going
Great videos! Looking forward to the new shit!
I bought a sailboat. Now I can just fly whenever the mood strikes, that or lose another quad to poseidon.
Yeah, I've experienced that feeling. However, FPV is often on my mind. Right now I find building more interesting than flying.
Love it Bot. Keep doing you bud!
If you take a break, put your batteries in storage or just dispose of them.
Following that guy being chased police is unexpected brilliance.
always insightful, BOT....Come fly 5in at this BANDO....Ohhhhh.....!!
I steped away because my stupid whoop HDZero ECO thing took 5 months to show up and I quit FPV while waiting. Now i was thinking i was rich because bitcoin went up and i sold some then bought the Mobula HDzero freestyle whoop and im back! Now im 3d prining a wing and going to put the stupid shit that took forever to show up in it
Glad u created this video, i put it down to manic deppresion, but when i look at my sad eyed drones, they look back at me saying "fly me flyyy meee, please"
I now know im not fkin CRAZY!
Im so over having to solder and fix electronics. Takes way to much thinking
did four intensive years just to take a forced break this year. did become a certified intervention dog leader and did my amateur radio license. also did lots of beach camping. though, feeling seriously bad for not having done any flight this year. think its because fpv is so intensive, makes you feel ashamed for not progressing. regards
Wow i thought I was the only one experiencing this every now and then. Awesome video Bot!!!! 👍👍👍
Nailed it!
We just came back from a 2 year break. best thing i ever did.
I joint the FPV community when I turned 65, awesome.… sucks I did discover earlier….
Outstanding points bro no bs
This one was spot on my brother. ❤
I constantly get the, "oh wow, that's cool, how does it work?" But I haven't seen any other pilots.
had to lock in to see the grinderino plug
so true I enjoy designing more than flying I think...
FPV helped me kick a tranq addiction...
looking forward to the crawling homie
man, I like your wpm (words/minute) and your fucking sense of humour! I'm 48 and just started the journey. I also ride only fixed gear lol.
No Dairy Queen’s in the Bronx.. so I’m assed out 😂
the right vid at the right time
You could pivot to anything, especially counterculture- which is why it would be funny to see you do a video in this style, but something mundane like the quality of shopping carts at Target.
yee esta creciendo la onda!
I build something everyday, quads wings etc, but can't remember the last time I flew. I feel like the issue is the liability with all the new federal regulations remote ID and all that, just problems I don't need in my life.
