S mode was one of the dumbest things they ever did. They claim it's for 'security' but really it was meant to drive traffic to the MS Store. (because otherwise it would have almost none). All S mode did was annoy people.

But it IS a security feature actually. Because MS wants to secure its market share and the Mac Moneysack people at Redmond are eager after securing constant money flow into their moneybags. And they want to secure the constant grabbing of our data without our permission 😁💲💲💲 which they sell to services and ministries.

You are absolutely right. But Microsoft never cared, and never will care, how forcing its users to do what it wants them to do negatively impacts them. It is one of, if not the, biggest corporations in the world and only cares about exerting its power and influence over it. The world knows this, but uses its products anyway. I've switched to Chromebook and will never look back. Unfortunately, I need a third party app that only works in Windows, so I bought my wife a Windows laptop to install it on. Lo and behold, the nasty S-mode prevented me from doing so until I managed to disable it (something went wrong...something went wrong...something went wrong...), thanks to help from my step grandson.

Worked 👏🏻…just one thing, At the beginning of the process in my case the systems asked me for my recovery key, it happens because the drive is protected by bitlocker, it is necessary to deactivate it with the digital key because it does not work if that step is passed.
I wanted to share my experience with all of you because the first time I skipped that step and it didn't work for me, after I did it right it worked.
Very thankful about the information in this channel …really appreciate it. Thanks. 🙏🏻

As an alternative... Boot normally, go to the C: drive, right click and disable/turn off Bitlocker. Then shutdown and make BIOS change. Then on next boot, turn Bitlocker back on. That way you don't have to write down or print out the Key and enter it when trying to get into BIOS.

Glad I stumbled onto this video. I bought a used refurbished PC, a Dell Optiplex (7th gen i5) and it does not have S mode, or it's turned off. I do run Windows 11 Pro, 22H2 but I can capture from OBS just fine. I had NO idea that the S mode was a thing, let alone prevents non MS software from seeing the computer, like OBS.
The place where I bought it is a local computer store here in town that sells both desktops and laptops, Windows/Apple, along with new parts for a DIY build. I don't consider myself a total noob with PC's as I have built a PC once, done many upgrades and used a Windows PC going back to the 386 days.

Acer notebooks require you to set a bios password to turn off secure boot
Go to security, set the administrator (bios) password, (1111 works fine) then go back and turn off secure boot then you can go back and disable the administrator password by entering it once, then leaving the both of the new PW box empty.
HP also is the only one that requires the "bios captcha" from what I have seen.

There are some situations that demand it. For example, most of the little microPCs like he used for his demo, end up screwed to the VESA mount on the back of a monitor that's one of 200 in an acre-sized room full of cubicles. Network administrators would go nuts without S mode on those PCS. That's why it's NOT enabled on DIY motherboards but is enabled on PCs bound for enterprise use.

I made a throw away account when I bought my parents an inexpensive laptop to set them up on zoom. They are in their 80 and *0's. Promptly forgot about the account.
A year later bought another budget laptop with Windows 11 in S mode. Found it impossible to create another throwaway account as my phone number is already used. So I had a new PC I could browse the web, but not install any software with. couldn't even use the trial Office 360 program without logging in with long forgotton credentials. 3 months later, your video was found. Exited S mode and installed the software for my non MS applications. Thanks. A year later upgraded to a multi-touch touchscreen model. Now they added Bitlocker to the mix of things needing disabled to make the change. Thanks for the great work.
Still don't know my MS username and password, but do know my phone number. Don't care.

Unbeknown to me (and probably her too) my wife's HP laptop upgraded itself from Windows 10 Home to Windows 11 and somehow got put into S mode. She doesn't use the laptop very often, but when she tried to install Zoom it wouldn't let her. Then she tried Chrome with the same results. I tried the first CyberCPU Tech video on how to switch S Mode off but it didn't work. I tried again, in case I messed up somehow, with the same results even though I followed the instructions to the letter. The laptop was running version 22H2.
Then I came across this video, which starts out with the "just turn off Secure Boot in Bios" which was stupid easy and worked like a charm. I didn't want to temp fate and try to toggle it off and on using the second method. Just for grins I installed Chrome and it was routine.
Thanks for the tip on toggling Secure Boot off and on.

Gosh, for a while I thought this was about a single language Windows, as I read it somewhere recently. Had to google what S mode actually is. And this is what I found:
    - It’s more secure because it only allows apps to be installed from the Microsoft Store.
    - It’s streamlined to reduce RAM and CPU use.
    - Everything a user does is automatically saved to OneDrive to free up local storage.
HELL NO! If for nothing else, then OneDrive automatic upload is a big NO NO for me. I want to OWN my data, not being held ransom by somebody else's server.
Besides, Microsoft store hosted a trojan previously, as I found out second hand. Can you sandbox and virustotal apps on MS app store?

There is one easy way to do that. If you have installation media just reinstall Windows. S mode will be gone on that computer and you will not see it on there again. Once you get a computer of of S mode you can not get it back in that I know of. That may have been deliberate so that someone can't mess with it and reenable S mode giving you a false sense of security. Other than locking down a PC I am not sure how secure S mode really is.

Microsoft must have closed your loophole again. Cannot load the (C-Drive) Hive in the registry. When I try to load the hive, the C Drive does NOT show in the drives listed. So that fix does not work anymore.

You need to install your controller drivers in recovery. Some newer systems have storage controllers that are not part of Windows already and need to be installed first.
You would do this by going to the format drive section of setup and pushing the button that says install drivers. Then install drivers that you download from another computer from your manufacturer's website. Then go back in the setup to the beginning and go into recovery.

Windows and Linux user here. These last few weeks I've been thinking of ditching Windows all together, since the only thing I do on my Windows PC anyway is gaming and RUclips. Everything else I do on my Linux Mint PC.
But ever since they announced Microsoft Recall I've been thinking of trying out Linux for my gaming needs too. The only thing that held me back is lazyness at this point.

I have upgraded all of my older PC's using your method and it was successful, but I have run into a problem. Whenever I attempt to open a file using a double click on the file, I get the message "Access Denied when Accessing the user profile". I've checked the security on the file and on the application which is attempting to open the file and everything seems to be OK. When I right click on the file and use the open with command, the file opens normally. Have you either created a video to address this problem or do you know how to fix it?

I made a MS account just for the sake of less stress. Unfortunately I didn’t know what “S mode “ was about at the time of purchase. Fortunately for me this is a brand new HP laptop from Wallyworld. It being only Three days old it’s going back . What a damm headache 😂

S Mode must be saved deeper than any of us think. I can give long details (one of those endless battles) but the short: Our charity was given an acer Home S mode. I needed to get it to Pro. (BTW Bios does not allow turning off safe boot.) Booted from rescue stick, in Cmd, Diskpart, ran Clean, so disk has not partitions or anything. Booted from my Win Pro install (we have open license) and installed clean. Came up in Win Pro S Mode. ?! And no way out. Used all of your tricks and many others. FYI, regedit, load hive, the entry you said change from 1 to 0? It was already 0, but still in S mode! Booted from rescue stick with Disk Genius, deleted all partitions and ran a security wipe overwriting entire disk. Then clean Pro install again, and FINALLY Win Pro no S mode.

Woohoo! Gone! Used little on this dual boot laptop but, need that freedom occasionally to do as I wish.
I think the step missed earlier was to be sure to be on C drive and not the X drive.

I have a problem guys and I’d like to see if there’s a solution. So basically, I had a problem after I updated my computer a while back and recently fixed it. The problem was that all my USB ports shut down and only one was working which was my mouse. So I had no internet (internet router connected to my computers USB port), and my keyboard. I fixed it by resetting my PC and signing into my computer and then it worked. But now I have the same problem again. How to fix?

No Secure Boot option in your BIOS ? In some BIOS model, you have to set an administrator password to see it. When you have well set the secure boot option, you can set again an admin pwd and leave the typing area empty to disable it. Then, save your BIOS modifications. Have a great deployment.
