Love your little pond. Wish I’d taken the time to watch videos like yours. Sadly I’ve lost koi do to things I did wrong. Too much algaecide once. Too many fish which led to too much muck. And worst not having a good net to keep heron out. I hate looking through a net so I tried motion detection sprinklers. Also a decoy. BIG mistake. Neither worked. However what I did do was to make a high domed framework out of small diameter steel rods . With it being high it will keep the heron from pecking at the fish. This happened to me as well. Had net like yours but they could get in to spear a fish but couldn’t get out. Regardless it was a dead fish. You may want to mention the best thing if your going to have Koi. Start SMALL. their cheaper so the loss isn’t so great as your learning your way up. Losing a $400.00 fish is quite devastating apposed to a $25.00 one obviously. Thank you for a great video.

@@enviipond thx for your reply. Yes I’ve learned quite a bit over the past 2 years. Videos like yours defiantly are a wealth of information . However sometimes information can be conflicting . I’ve also heard 10 gallons per inch of fish. I’d say this is a good number. I currently have about 50 inches with 4 Koi. I have 800 gallons. I’m sure I could have a few more than 4 but they will grow fairly fast. As of now my water is perfect. Crystal clear and all parameters good. Some algae on the rocks but no string algae. I only use barley straw extract in addition to my aquatic plants. Fortunately my pond is in a semi sunny area.
Very helpful video! Thank you! My pond has vegetation that the gold fish and koi are eating. One pond guy told me to feed them only 2 times a week. But I am feeding daily in the mornings. Do I still need to feed them daily if we have vegetation in there there are eating?
Hi, thanks for watching and getting in touch. I'd still recommend feeding your fish daily as they wont get the right amount of nutritional value they need just from feeding from plants. Once you've fed your fish, if after 5-10 minutes there is still floating fish food, just remove this with a net. Then, on the next feed use a little less than you did before. Hi , my pond is new , a week old. How do I keep the bottom of the pond clean? I thought that the filter would do it but it doesnt as it sits about 6 inches off the bottom. So all of the goldfish waste just lies like worms on the bottom. Plus I seem to have developed a film of grit/sand on the bottom too ???😮
Hi Suzanne, thanks for watching & getting in touch. Your filter will pick up some excess organic matter but as you've mentioned, it won't help completely. I'd recommend using envii Sludge Klear as this is designed specifically to target the sludge at the bottom of ponds. It's completely natural and will break up the sludge which is moved to your filters. You'll notice the filters getting more dirty when using this so they may require cleaning more often. Typically, koi owners will do a partial water change of 10-20% once a week, making sure to use Envii Chlorine Klear when doing so. However, if the pond water is healthy and well maintained, water changes become less important.
Hi, thanks for watching! This was a pond we visited to film this video but it was a custom made net as the pond is an irregular shape. There are hooks all around the pond that the netting connects to. It's a really good setup!
