    Vita is one of the most underrated systems, once you install a cfw it becomes an amazing emulation machine too.

    • @itsmesteve1081
      @itsmesteve1081 2 года назад +14

      If the game library was more robust I would agree with you. But as somebody who doesn't play jrpgs, vita just isn't my thing. I have a couple vitas with cfw installed too. Can you change my mind on selling my vita? I plan to buy a psp 3000 and just collect authentic umds and movies because the psp market is still pretty cheap right now. I think the vita is too overpriced for its small gaming library.

    • @itsmesteve1081

      I could emulate retro games just as well, if not better, on the new nintendo 3ds. The only exception perhaps being n64, but i don't play n64 games anyways

      @@itsmesteve1081 There's a lot more you can do with a Vita than with a (New) 3DS, emulation/retro gaming included. I don't see what could be emulated "better" on the (New) 3DS given that the Vita has the more powerful hardware but since I'm not too involved in the 3DS scene I'd love to hear it. Other than that though, there is simply no touching the Vita cfw scene. There are so many ports of older/retro games coming out for the system even today. The 3DS doesn't come close. And lastly there is just the fact that you can actually look at the Vita's screen without bursting into tears. I don't even have to mention the fact that the Vita has a beautiful screen because the screens on the 3DS are utterly atrocious and would make any other device look amazing by comparison. Add to that the PS2/Gamecube era graphics which have aged terribly and it becomes increasingly difficult to look at the screen of a 3DS without wishing to spontaneously go blind. I know the screens on the New 3DS are slightly better in terms actual quality but still there's only so much you can do to polish a turd.
      Edit: Oh and by the way, the Vita may be a JRPG paradise but it most definitely has a lot more to offer in terms of its game library. Indie and AA developers in general absolutely thrived on the system. I'm not that into JRPGs either but I still love the Vita's library. There is a plethora of stuff like adventure games (Danganronpa, Broken Age etc), visual novels (way too many to list...) and even soulsborne game(s?) (salt and sacrifice) and roguelikes (e.g. Bastion from Supergiant games, the guys that made Hades). There is definitely a lot to love about the Vita even if you're not that into JRPGs. Especially considering that the majority of the JRPGs found on the Vita are really not that good. Obviously talking about the low-budget stuff not games like Persona 4 Golden or Trails of cold steel.

    I still remember getting my Vita in 2015 as a birthday gift (the model 2000 with Borderlands 2) and while I already loved JRPGs and niche games, the Vita introduced me to so many new genres, styles and experiences that I doubt I would have went out of my way to try otherwise. Not only that, but having a huge library of PSP and PSone games at my disposal made it even better... I even double dipped on a few PSP games just to get the digital copy xD

    Harped on about the Switch maybe a little too much but it was a good watch. Can't believe you didn't touch on the homebrew scene at all though, because they address the very real shortcomings mentioned. And I seem to remember a little thing called Cross Buy...

    • @TarksGauntlet
      @TarksGauntlet  2 года назад

      The switch probably makes up about 2 minutes of the video but it kind of was an important part of the Vitas closing year as a very similar product. As for cross buy, yeah, I left that out for timing reasons. It was a cool thing but super underutilized (Like most things vita related.) I feel like one of the only games I have that even supported it was Sony All-star Battle Royale.
      I also considered talking about the homebrew scene and all the stuff that came in cracking the system open after it had more-or-less died but I mostly wanted to keep this to "official things" so-to-speak. I do wonder though if the vita had been cracked open earlier and was seemingly easier for people if it would have helped or hurt the vita's chances. Didn't seem to hurt sales of the PSP too much.

Having the ability to play classic Pokémon games from the gameboy color to playing old school psp classics like bully and god of war this machine is nostalgic trip down memory lane! I’m still finding new games (like Hotline Miami) that are sooo damn fun to play! PS Vita is one of the most slept on gaming consoles of all time!

    I would of never seen this video if it wasn't for Irchas community post and that makes me so sad youtube doesn't recommend me this type of content more.
    this video was amazing!! the intro alone I knew that the hour was going to be worth it and my god it was, I've never owned a vita but I have been a handheld gamer since I can remember and I'm definitely going to be buying a vita locally now, you did such a great job at capturing your love for the vita and made a really high quality video out of it, keep it up!

    This video is amazing. I got a ps vita only about a year ago, but I had been interested in it since launch. I was in college at the time and didn't have the money to spend, but was lucky to have a coworker give me her vita about a year ago.
    The ps vita is my least played handheld, but it's the most interesting to me. I've played trails of cold steel 1&2, and went back and just recently finished trails in the sky fc.
    I wish I bought one back in the day. The vita is amazing and it's a real shame that it didn't do as well as it should have. thank you for this video, it was both enlightening and entertaining, and you have an amazing channel.

    Thank you so much for making this video I have owned my vita for about 2 years now and have had a blast playing and buying games I would have never thought I would have enjoyed in a million years. Additionally, my top 5 favourite games would have to be a copy of Puyo puyo tetris I imported from Japan, Race the sun a high score indie game, a copy of Minecraft I imported from Japan, persona 4 golden, and undoubtedly my favourite Vita game/memory would have to be when I found YS 8 at my local game store for very cheap and I played it and loved it and will never forget the experience of playing it for the first time. Anyways, sorry if I rambled on for a little bit there I just love the vita so much and enjoy everything about the system I wish I could talk about it for hours but I guess it’s probably good to stop at some point. Finally, have a great day and thank you so much for making this documentary on one of my favourite consoles of all time.

    I still love the Vita. I used remote play when it worked and it was fun. Lots of great games and I love the psp and classics on it. In my opinion, just 2 things changed at launch would have allowed it to gain more early sales and support… if they launched it with a 199.99 base price for the unit alone, and had a 249.99 price point for a bundle with a high end game and a memory card, they would have seen more initial sales and more support from AAA devs. Also, changing the proprietary memory card format to the generic card, that would have greatly increased accessibility. There is more that could have changed but those things I think would have given it a much stronger launch and first few years. That said, it’s a unique hand held and I’m glad we got what we did from it. Fantastic console I still love.

    I bought mine like a month ago and after modding a PSP ; I was really happy how easy it was to Mod a PS vita. It literally takes a few steps to mod it and you can make it anyway you want. I love the PSP and the PS vita. Plus it had the OLED screen 5 years before the switch. It is still competent.

    Great video, sums up the systems legacy and love the inclusions of the other content creators who are known in the Vita community.
    You were so right about bringing niche genres to gamers. I wasn't big on jrpgs, visual novels, or dungeon crawlers until I got a vita. As I got older, the AAA games and shooters I always played just weren't cutting it for me anymore and I decided to experiment. I will always sing the vitas praises as a console out of time. It's sweet spot of games 2012-2016 was so short lived and damn its a shame.

    Amazing documentary, it’s incredible man! Thank you for sharing your experience and your love for Psvita! I bought a psp Japanese version when it launched and I still have it and I’m actually playing the amazing port Cave Story! But I want to buy a Psvita because I see that the passion and respect for this console lives beyond Sony…
    This documentary should be seen on a big streaming platform by everyone! If someone wants to understand how the Nintendo Switch appeared, you have to understand Psvita and Pstv legacy! ❤

    This video is an amazing introduction for me to the Vita. I am a new Vita owner, got a wrong charger, but awaiting for my delivery of the actual charger 😅. I never knew how big the community is, and I am glad to see it thriving.
    I wanted to get a Vita back in the day, but I couldn't, because all of the expenses you need to make for the console. But finally I found a good deal and got the console. So once I get the charger, oh boy I will be playing LittleBigPlanet Vita, Gravity Rush, possible even Persona 4 Golden, Tearaway, and even other classics I can't think of right now.
    By the way this video is amazing, soo good. Everyone involved clearly had love for the Vita and you can tell. Thank you for this amazing video.

    Love the video even if it makes me mad at my old self for not upgrading from PsP to Vita way back then 🤣It's only in recent years that I've gotten into JRPGs and the ones that have become my favourites were both Vita series, the Utawarerumono sequels and Trails of Cold Steel. Though I played those both on PS4 I have the Vita to thank for them I think, so I've got a respect from afar kind of feeling towards it. Learning about the console's legacy was fascinating, thank you for making this video 👍
