CAPTAIN HOOK AND PETER PAN REFERENCE!!!!!!!! I am officially IN LOVE with your songs. EVEN MORE than I was BEFORE! (Obviously, I am a major disney fan, especially Peter Pan.)
A few weeks ago, I was at a local Blackbeard Pirate Festival in Hampton, Virginia. It SORT of is a ren faire event, but it's put on by the local town's parks and recreation. Anyway, I'm shopping around, looking at antique civil war canons and suddenly I hear Voltaire's voice from the heavens above. And I stop dead in my tracks. WTF -- is he playing on stage?! I'm like "I know that song, I know that song!". I'm just craning my head around, trying to figure out what's going on and eventually rush over towards the stage, but no Voltaire, it's just being played across the whole field from the town's huge speakers and all the small town normies have no idea why I'm so excited. I guess they were looking for a mix of pirate-y songs and found this one on Spotify or something. No Mexico City DMV, but it was my moment of "Wait! He's on the radio?!"
Incidentally, Hampton is out on the same peninsula as Chesapeake, where other people thought they saw him too. I wonder if we all got confused that day...?
The first time I listened to this song, I thought the protagonist had found the beast when it was still small and very young. After having healed it, he tried to put it back into the ocean but failed, so it remained inside Pirate's Bay where it grew big and dangerous. In the end, the only thing he could do was to write the sign in order to both protect the creature and warn people about the danger. (ps: English is not my mother language)
Man... I remember being introduced to Voltaire through Adventure Quest Worlds way back in the day. Now it's 2021 and I still love this song... I miss the old days.

Definitely one of my favorites! I know people tell you this all the time, but if not for "Billy and Mandy," I probably would have never become a fan! Thanks for making me think twice about doing a glowing meteor's bidding...for the fifth time.
I came here from an animation I saw by Daria Cohen (I think that’s her name) called ‘The Night’. It’s pretty good, you’d probably like it if you like Voltaire.
i know this comments is really new compared to how old the song is but I can't figure it out! this song so familiar but I believe I've never heard it before? Maybe it was another song with the same voice, and a similar melody but never this song. Now I've heard it, this songs amazing! VOLTAIRE.
For serious man, you're awesome, your songs makes me feel so relaxed. Thanks lovely man.
Favorite song on this album! The end almost made my cry the first time I heard it!
Is anyone even commenting on the song? ;3; it's beautiful. He found a wounded whale, and made up a rumor so no one would come to hurt him more. ;3; whatta bro.
Definitely one of my favorites! I know people tell you this all the time, but if not for "Billy and Mandy," I probably would have never become a fan! Thanks for making me think twice about doing a glowing meteor's bidding...for the fifth time.
He made that song?
Soundwave Hell yeah! He also did Land of the Dead in the movie if you didn't know. He's actually uploaded both on his channel.
TheDUDERulez1 Wow that's pretty badass.
I came here from an animation I saw by Daria Cohen (I think that’s her name) called ‘The Night’. It’s pretty good, you’d probably like it if you like Voltaire.
Galaxy Girl On a whim I remembered this guy’s “When You’re Evil” song and ended up discovering that The Night Animation today!
i know this comments is really new compared to how old the song is but I can't figure it out! this song so familiar but I believe I've never heard it before? Maybe it was another song with the same voice, and a similar melody but never this song. Now I've heard it, this songs amazing! I love pirates and everything to do with them, so it's a win win even if it brings me some unwanted confusion-
Update: It was the song "When you're evil" I'm just an idiot, I used to adore that song!
Ahhh it's the first time in a long while since I've listened to this song. And I just want to thank you cause this album and your album Ooky Spooky helped me get into music in general back in 2009. So, thaks a lot for making these awesome songs and still making new ones.
Wishing you all the best from Belgium~
You’re living the Dream sir. Love singing along to your music
I really love this pirate style of music. I would like to hear more like this. Anyone has any recommendations?
Just listen to the album "To the Bottom of the Sea". Its Voltaire.
Any Alestorm songs as well
Whiskey for the Lady 😁
Made a D&D oneshot that I ran a while ago based on this song...thanks for always making such great music Voltaire
This is just “Land of the Dead” with different lyrics.
Not that I’m complaining.
I don’t hear it. He has a certain style for sure, but the melody for this one is very different from Land of the Dead.
I think it's really just the intro that mimics Land of the Dead
I found you on a game called Adventure Quest 3D and became an instant fan
He was also on AQW, and he was even in The Grim Adventures of Billy & Mandy.
@OmegaChase1002 never played those yet. Waiting for AQW to come to mobile devices.
After several minutes, i was able to remember the name of this artist :D
I love this song. I love the songs that tell you a story, and the one in this song is just awesome.
This is the best song ever.
I love you guys X3
Yup loveeeee this song :D
best song ever
This guy is telling a story in a song, it's amazing!
The first time I listened to this song I huddled up in my chair in front of the computer and stared at the screen with wide eyes like I was at a campfire listening to a ghost story! XD
I still have that reaction, haha. This song is just awesome.
2:06 Fun Fact: in the movie Peter Pan Return of neverland we see captain hook photo of his mother and if we look closely in the photo she has hooks on both her hands :) I guess you could say like mother, like son 🪝
Aurelio Voltaire your music is awesome i love them so much ^^
Damn. I find the end quite satisfying more than I thought I would.
I already like it, but that end just made the entire thing better.
Anyone remember this playing on repeat while you try to beat those monsters from Adventure Quest Worlds?
Voltaire, your lyrics are a welcome listen. It's unique music like this that really gives me an appreciation for music and artist alike. I'll definitely be looking out for your music now, no pirating for quality like this
Heard a remix of it in a lord aethlstan's dnd campaign and had to find the original. Absolute bangger.
Takes me right back to the game, I remmeber it so clearly when I hear this.
beautiful (and heartbreaking) song
I thought so too. I thought, "This isn't the same recording I have." But, I went back and listened again... And, I'll be damned. It sure was. It would be kind of hard to top this song.
does anybody remember when this album was part of AdventureQuest
this singer's songs are my guilty pleasures
Like i said Voltaire is the best singer of music country ever.
Aurellio Voltaire It is spelled W-O-R-L-D not C-O-U-N-T-R-Y
That is very egotistical XD ( no veryfy tho Xd )
Brendan are you fuckin stupid i said that in my comment you nupty.
Golem Golden lol. "Nupty"
i have listened 2 a lot of your work now mr voltaire and this is by far my favourite u manage 2 capture medieval taven bard perfectly in this song and and your talent 4 musical story telking is second 2 none! nice one keep them coming :D
Voilatare is really underrated singer
I think it was either a Hellsing comp put to When you're evil or Daria Cohan's vampire series using several of Voltaire's songs for Duke that introduced me to his songs.
I remember blastin this Album while drinking Rum and playing Assasins Creed Black Flag. I got blackout drunk almost every day for 2 weeks until i finished the game... best time
whoa, just found out your songs helps me more focused in my study, the instrumental are both relaxing and...lit the spirit up so i dont lost my consciousness when im typing, thanks!
YO how does this have less than 20M veiws. It doesn't make sense sorry haha I LOVE THIS SONG!
KEEP IT UP VOLTAIRE!!!
Yep. 5 years later. Still some of the best music I've ever heard. Props to you Voltaire!
If it wasn’t for Voltaire I never would have found my vocal range
VikingFyre same here mate
sort of the same here but I started due to frank sinatra and found my self in between him and voltaire
I grew up watching the Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy. Loved that show and the music when you did the songs you did. Got older, discovered a game called Adventure Quest worlds and was there for an event with a familiar voice. Years later a friend showed me your music and i recognized you immediately...You sir are amazing and I am so happy I found you.
Who else remembers the misadventures of flapjack because this song is perfect to use in an episode.
Oh my gosh. YES. just YES.
This song always reminded me of that weird cartoon.
Well he did do a song for the grim adventures of Billy and mandy so him doing one for flapjack would be perfect
I remember watching Flapjack
Voltaire you are an absolutely amazing singer and lyricist, please come to Canada.
Plot twist
The beast of pirates bay is an overgrown Skeleton Fish with a trident
they say he can be spotted on Skull Punch Island on Friday the 13th
Voltaire, I must say it's an honor to meet you. You have an amazing voice, and I love some of your songs. My favorite songs are Hell in a handbasket, Land of the Dead, and The Beast of Pirate's Bay. I didn't know who you were at first, but when I found out you sang in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, I officially became a fan of you. Stay awesome, Voltaire, and you ROCK! XD
You are the best!
my dude I discovered you from aqw and I found you again on AQ3D. I would love to relisten to every one of your songs from those games and all of these songs here 👍
I wonder if there’s symbolism in how “Land of The Dead” begins so similarly to this song 🤔
Not at all, not at all Voltaire :) You deserve nothing but kind words. I didn't mean to make sound like you would get mad at someone who couldn't afford your CDs. I just noticed the comments of Sonyphilia and it got me mad because they couldn't see how they were in the wrong and I wanted to point it out to them. Please don't quit :'( Ever! If you do, you'll be ridding this world of amazing and flawless talent.
