2015 World O'Pen Bic Cup

The 2015 World O'Pen Bic Cup was held at Safety Beach Sailing Club from the 27th of December till the 3rd of January. The regatta consisted of every type of wind strength possible, with the sailors experiencing days of 2 knots and 30+ knots throughout the week. It was a great event had by all! A massive congratulations to all of the competitors and also a special mention to all of the winners in their respective divisions. //

I sailed an O'pen BIC yesterday for a few minutes rescuing an inexperienced sailor who got overwhelmed in about 15 with choppy waves. Super fun. I am 57 years old and 150 pounds, but when I got to the beach all I could say is "I want one." More fun than a Laser, and much more fun than an El Toro, and it would fit in my garage. Someone should design a similar boat for bigger people--I want a little broader bow for buoyancy and a lot more non-skid on the deck, please.

I sail opti every Saturday and I love Optus but I just did the North Americans bic ragada and it was so much fun! Our club just started bic and everybsaturday after my option practice I always do the bic for at least 30 mins!!!

As a pro bic sailor I can certainly say no you don’t, they look very fun and energetic little boats but in reality it just tears you apart to sail one in heavy chop and high wind. “Did I put the Vang on?” You realize as you see the boom soar up into the air on a broad reach, i now help coach kids in optics and bics, mad when I see them ‘move up’ from optis to bics they just can’t do it and drop straight out.
