Yes because that is how the aliens are defeated in the musical, the aliens have not been to earth so they have had the chance to develop immunities to the diseases that we have been exposed to for millions of years, therefore sneezing on them would expose the aliens to bacteria which is completely unknown to them and would have very bad effects on them but not to us because we have an immunity to them, having evolved next to them for millions of years.

The tripod isn't *based* from the War of the worlds, it _is_ from the War of the Worlds.

Though this particular design I think is from the '78 album *Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War of The Worlds*, which is what many War of the Worlds fans think of when they think of War of the Worlds.
Do yourself a favour and listen to that album. It's an excellent composition.

You can't blame them, I suppose. Unless you're into Sci-Fi, you would either have had to been born on or before 1970 and/or live in the UK to have ever really know what it is from. But that demographic is few and far between as these comments would show.

Really? I was under the impression that the musical was more popular than the book simply because modern culture and books from 100 years don't go well together sadly. Maybe it never sold that well outside the UK I don't know, but yeah, the tripod concept itself is from the book but the design used in the video is from the musical.
It's called Jeff Wayne's War of the Worlds, it's pretty loyal to the book and the songs are catchy as hell.

the English taunt was an age old insult. Back in the medieval ages during the war between the English and French, the Englishmen had archers that are incredibly deadly.
Being pissed by the archers, the French soldiers sworn their oath to cut off every single English archer's index and middle fingers so that they can no longer use a bow and arrow.
The English replied by showing their index and middle fingers, and say "come and get it"

Medieval snipers used to show their two fingers to the enemy's, because those fingers were used to fire a longbow. It's a very intense insult, and therefor what they used to do when capturing the bowmen was cutting of those two fingers. Showing your enemy you still had those fingers basically meant ''fuck you'' and ''I can still shoot you''
I just have to laugh at people in the comments who don't know what the WoTW is. They just say, "That big robot thing looks like a strider," or something from a cartoon.

The specific tripod is from Jeff Wayne's awesome musical version of War of the Worlds.
To be fair, even though I love Jeff Wayne's tripods, H.G. Wells probably would have hated them, as they don't have the "organic" feel that he stressed so much in the original novel.
Though, the musical did have other considerable differences from the novel, so it's fine.
The strider was actually based off of the Martian fighting machines, so they're at least in the general ballpark.
Valve should add Tripods as rare support enemy, with "a million to one" spawn chance.

I got comment, why doesn't anyone shoot its viewport? In the novel its says the viewport (or hood) is made of a sort of organic material. So why waste cannon shells, machine gun rounds, and naval gun shells on hitting the machine itself, fire an explosive round right to the eye I say! Hoorah!

Which adds that tripod into the mvm final boss and new items which is related to alien stuff like a alien gun which vaporises players and vaporises projectiles. This is an awesome SFM! I loved the part where RED was all just staring at this monstrosity, and Scout lifted up Soldier's helmet for him so he could see without even changing his expression!! XD very funny. I was certainly shocked to see the robots back with an army and lord knows what. Its that moment when you feel like saying, "...You have got to be freakin' kidding me..."Lol, great video! :D

Perhaps it could happen like this: Someone is on their last tour (They've finished all levels, and are on the hardest mode) they will get selected with others like them, and after they complete the tour, instead of getting the loot, they all do it again, except ALOT harder, and new designs, and there might be a new type of aussie weapon, something like a green shiny solid? lol

If they do add a good alien invasion mode, they should have alien versions of the mercs and instead of a tank, you fight a tripod. The tripod would have heat rays that could take out half your health in one hit, rocket launchers, and it could shoot tanks of poison gas. If you manage to kill it, you get a S***load of money and maybe a hat

It would have been so much better if the creator didn't butcher the characters original aesthetic with douchy hats and out of setting weaponry.

Fritts ShockTrooper Just because the stupid hats are canon doesn't mean they make sense or aren't shitty. The shitty Wolverine films were canon but that doesn't mean people who enjoy the characters and setting weren't pissed off at how their favorite setting was treated. Team Fortress 2 takes place during the 1950s, they did not have robotic arms, douchy modern hats, or any of the out of place crap that was added later. Not all the hats are awful, I will admit, but once they ran out of ideas for hats that fit the theme and aesthetic, TF2 lost a lot of its charm forever. Unusuals are a whole other bag of stupid that was added to make the game look far worse, but that is a discussion for another ranty post. And don't even bring up "It's ok to have out of place hats and weapons because rocket jumping and the like isn't realistic!" because that is not how theme and setting work. You can have unrealistic activities that still fit the theme, but relatively little things, like out of place hats and weapons, end up butchering those same aesthetics.

Okay, now you're just taking the entire game too seriously.
TF2 wasn't created with a strict, set-in-stone history in mind, at least not at the point of release. You'll find it interesting to know that Valve started considering expanding the game's horizons at the request of the community.
Remember that TF2 has been and will always be influenced in part by what the community desires or needs. Again, it's always been that way. I personally suggest you take a step back and admire just how much this game has grown, before calling the company out just because there's a weapon or a hat you don't like. And another thing, the game's always been wacky and unique ever since the Mannconomy update, that's kind of what TF2 is.
(Also, you should probably think on the fact that quite frankly there's nothing you can do about it.)
GoneSouth I never said it had a set history, I said it has a nice, unique aesthetic that should be adhered to because it is what drew a lot of people into the game originally. A great lesson when designing anything for the public is that they have no clue what they want because they are idiots. The game has grown, I admit, and I do quite admire some of the older weapons and even hats that were added that managed to spice up the game without clashing with its theme. And of course I can't do anything about what has happened to TF2, that is why I am so nostalgic and melancholy when thinking about what tf2 used to be.

leo barber This used to be the case a lot more in the early days. I main Sniper, and he was my favourite MvM class ever since it came out. I used to get kicked a lot when I started Mann Up, but it's a lot less common these days, although it still happens occasionally at the hands of some stack of 10-year-old friends or whatever.
That happened to me when I first did two cities. I got kicked for having no tours, playing pyro, doing something my teammates told me to do, and even getting banned by a bunch of faze people. I did get an aussie flamethrower at the end.
