Man all 3 of the replies here are stupid. 1 Lebron didn’t have a “best team” at any point his first go around with the cavs (best record don’t mean best team). 2 Kobe didn’t play in the playoffs that year, he dragged that dysfunctional INJURED team there til his Achilles tore. 3 he didn’t miss half the season he barley missed the last week or 2. How can 3 people in a row post such stupid comments?
@@bigboner23 yeah defo would've played as many minutes if not more, but they would have been easier minutes if he was sharing the ball with cp3 and have him help with the offensive plays
Wolves bandwagon fan since 1998 Kobe in 2012 was still averaging 27,6,6 on nearly 47% from the field. His career deteriorated so quickly after that because he had to carry a squad full of scrubs and give it his all, thus tearing his achilles.
Older Chris Paul Helped Harden almost beat the rockets with basically mediocre talent around them. If CP3 was with Kobe and Dwight damn! He just got fired but if this went through he would've looked like a genius. The Lakers didn't have a plan B and now you're looking at Lamar and Gasol disgruntled. Kobe finished his career out injured which Chris Paul would've relieved pressure and he probably would've won at least 1 more ring if not 2.

As a laker fan it pisses me off to see this because i remember flipping my shit in high school only to be heartbroken hours later lmao But it surprises me how so many people especially laker fans are misinformed about this
what pissed me off about the lock out was how they targeted the lakers. The rule was to make it more difficult for large market teams who have been successful to attract free agents and large profile trades, out of the big city teams, who have been dominant? Oakland success was recent so that doesn't count, chicago hasn't won since '98, miami hasn't won since '06, houston since '95, and then i don't have to mention new york. Lets be real, the other owners saw an opportunity to bring down the lakers. The messed up part was that our owner Jerry buss was in his final months.
As Lakers fan, i always understood this. I was never mad about the veto cause the NBA did own the Hornets. My problem was that they basically fucked up the Lakers future without any sort of compensation. All the struggle the Lakers went through can be traced back to that trade.
It's completely unfair the other owners, who owned there own team, were able to screw another teams trade even though it had nothing to do with there team! Mark Cuban, and Cavs owner did this because they were litterly jealous of LA Lakers. Conflict of interest
I’ve had to explain this exact point to a few of my friends over the years. From now on, I’ll just redirect them here. Excellent content. Keep it up man!
I'm still salty about that trade, even though the NBA did own the Hornets. The Lakers' trade offer was not much worse than the Clippers' offer, and we could've remained competitive when Kobe started to decline.
CP3, Kobe and D Howard would have challenged the Miami Heat in the finals if they were all healthy. NBA ruined our Kobe/Lebron finals match up...Well really Lebron ruined those chances from 08-2010 when the Kobe was going to 3 straight finals and Lebron's teams winning over 60 plus games during the regular season couldn't get his team to the finals but I digress...lol
challenge?? hell nah that Heat team can't even beat the Mavs, and that Heat team even struggled a lot against an old ass Spurs lmao🤣 considering the fact that Cp3 at that time playing his best and Kobe before the achilles playing like the best player in the league, there's no competition at all they can take down that athletic Heat team bruh..but unfortunately Bron is the golden boy not Kobe
I will always hate David Stern & Dan Gilbert for this bullshit. CP3 should've been on the Lakers winning championships. This has caused a domino effect against the Lakers that has resulted in them starting from scratch to build a championship team. They missed the Playoffs a bunch of years consecutively for the first time in Lakers history. There was nothing unfair about this trade for the league to nix it for "basketball reasons". To be fair as far as the Lakers are concerned after he fact, they made some HORRIBLE management decisions like giving up 1st picks for Steve Nash and the idiotic head coaching decisions (Mike Brown, Mike D'Antoni).
Great job on the video dude! I remember this cp3 trade getting vetoed, but other than the NBA's basketball reasons quote, I wasn't aware of the additional details. Again good job!
You know you are amazing when the NBA itself conspires against you, just like Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1 not getting his 8th championship vs Verstappen.
Curtis Jordan I think if Kobe did tied Jordan with rings I’m pretty sure the majority of people will still say Jordan is better. Jordan will still have more Finals MVPs, Regular season MVPs, DPOY, and scoring titles than Kobe.
Dom I really appreciated that. I, like others, just knew it wasn't fair but didn't really look to find out why. I look forward to more of your work bro.
Sure did, and still couldn't win their 1st title with him, and worse couldn't even make the conference finals. I felt bad for CP3, it's good 2 see him having success and a legit chance of getting his 1st nba championship ring with the Rockets, but it's a shame many of his best years were wasted with the Clippers.
Brace Brooks so before he went to the clippers he wasn't a forshure top 10 of after he is we didn't waste his Career just cuz he didn't win a championship and players win championships not the team dumbass
You make very valid points Dom, but my thing is that the league not only allowed CP3 to be traded, but he was traded to the EXACT SAME MARKET!!! If the league cared about parity between the big and small markets, they would have nixed the Clipper deal as well. So it's not so much, at least for me, about the nixed deal, but that the NBA was completely hypocritical in this situation.
Me vs. Everybody yeah don't trade him to the Lakers where no doubt Bynum and Gasol were getting traded, but send him to the Clippers with Blake Griffin and DeAndre Jordan right ?
yes!!! it was like they said fuck u. but i heard from Jennie buss on a radio interview on 710 ESPN LA that if Jim buss would have communicated better she would have been able to get it done, because she was at that meeting. just sucks that Jim's poor mangement and lack of communication fucked us over for years.
The clippers play in a big market but are marketed as a small market team. They have sucked for their entire existence until they got cp3 and the lakers have the LA and national media attention. Clippers are the red headed step child of LA
this is why kawhi, pg13, and butler tried to force their ways out of their team. if the league and their owners is literally colluding where players get to go, the superstar players will obviously take the power back and dictate their own destination.
You fail to mention that on CP trade was original veto was because the Cleveland Cavaliers were the 4 team involved in this trade . The cavaliers were supposed to give New Orleans a second round draft pick in the CP trade . That’s when Cavs Owner Dan Gilbert Complained about Super Teams and had his own Super Team a few yrs later . NBA fans should be mad at Cavs Owner Dan Gilbert not allowing CP being traded to lakers . That’s why David Stern veto the trade ...
This is awesome you give the most intelligent content on the web from a sports fan perspective I liked and subbed and shared because I'm one of those people and so are my friends, we had no idea why the NBA jumped in a multi team trade LOL
This was a conspiracy against kobe. They didn’t want him to win his 6th ring so he wouldn’t be compared to Jordan and they wanted to protect LeBron so he wouldn’t lose to kobe in the finals. If this trade had happened Kobe wouldn’t have tore his Achilles because he was stuck playing way too much on a shitty team with no help. There were many better duos before this and better big 3s as well, Jordan pippen and Rodman being among them. The NBA shouldn’t be allowed to own a team in its league, that just screams corruption.
Mr. Jordan - did you watch the video? The NBA owned the Hornets at that time. The team owner vetoed the trade because it was a terrible one. They do not own the Warriors.
Why David Stern wanted the Hornets to remain in NOLA so bad? Was Stern scared that a potential new owner could relocate the Hornets to Seattle? David Stern must really hate Seattle then - he allowed Clay Bennett to move the Sonics to Oklahoma City, then bought the Hornets with the sole intention to keep them in New Orleans and prevented the Sacramento Kings' potential move to Seattle.
Daniel Clark not a good comparison because whatever team lebron chooses to go to automatically becomes championship contenders. The heat the 2 years before lebron joined were barely above .500 in win/loss ratio. He made the team good with the other players that joined. KD joined the best regular season team ever that lost the finals by 1 win and the team that beat him in the playoffs by 1 win . There’s no comparison.
so they vetoed it cause they could, but they can't do shit about these superteams being created cause they can't. Where is the consistency then? dan gilbert said they should have a vote between the 29 owners? ok then everytime a star is leaving free agency to sign with 2 other stars in free agency let's have the 29 owners vote if whether or not that team should be allowed to sign that player. They only vetoed that trade cause it was the lakers simple as that, was it any other team in the nba it would have gone through. The lakers never had more than 2 stars in their championship run, unlike these other teams that need 3 to 4.
Clearly you didn't understand the video. They were able to veto it because the NBA was the OWNER of the hornets, just like Dan Gilbert is the OWNER of the Cavaliers. And the point about having a vote with all the owners, that suggestion was only possible because the NBA itself is MADE UP of the rest of the owners, therefore each owner technically partly owned the hornets as well. It wouldn't make sense to have every owner vote whenever a star player decides to sign with a different team LMFAO. Not saying this move wasn't shady, but that's the logic behind it
darkcurrypowder i understand it. My point is they can't just veto a trade because they can where is the principle in that? i have never heard of a trade getting vetoed by any owner since i started watching basketball, meaning it's not usual for something like that to happen. all teams were in agreement n the gms made the trade, only to be vetoed by nba later after complaints by a couple of owners, the same owner who for the last several years had a team consisted of multiple stars n won't open his mouth about that I'm sure. it's like having your teacher give you a D just because he can. Doesn't make it right. lakers lost pau gasol n lamar odom for that trade, then he complains about cap space being free for future signing, duh.
Aaries Harris again for the last time, nobody said they didn't have the right to veto the trade, the question is why they did it? don't give me it's because they can. bring something to the conversation since you're a smart ass.
the veto in my opinion did help smaller markets and less popular locations attract players they wouldn't have been able to otherwise. if the lakers stayed a prominent location no one would have gone to okc or new orleans or even golden state.
When it was vetoed I was so happy cause I was a Celtics trade & didn't want the Lakers to get another chip, but now looking back I wish CP3 had gotten a chance to play on a real contender and I would've loved to see Kobe go up against LeBron in the finals.
@@demetriusgaines59 ikr the NBA always hated on Kobe never gave him what he wanted but they treat Lebron like royalty they give anything he asks for I bet they'll get him a hot fudge sundae if he asked for it
Nah, it's ez as this. Media doesn't like Kobe. NBA front office doesn't like Kobe. They didn't want Kobe to get like 7 or more rings. They wanted Kobe to die down in skill and get older faster. This is a rugged and embarrassing league. If Kobe got as much love as LeBron from media and NBA front office. He would look soo much more better of a player than people say he is rn and LeBron would not even be top 5 in G.O.A.T conversation. David stern is the worst guy known to man kind to handle a team.
Kobe was never really liked by the media or league after Shaq was traded and the whole sexual assault case happened. They had a really hard time calling kobe "the best player in the world" and wanted the first opportunity possible to stop calling him that, but LBJ had to win a ring first. People forget that after shaq was traded, kobe had to win back LA's love too.
@Lakers fan This. People forget how hard he had to work to repair his image after the 2003-2004 season. The sexual assault case changed everything and when the Lakers traded Shaq I honestly thought it was over for Kobe. Dude started putting up insane numbers and the media still tried shunning him, until the lakers became contenders and won 2 chips. I'm a heat fan and have been watching ball since I was a jit, but I remember just how awkward and tense Lakers vs Heat games were from 2005-2007. Kobe looked more like a fallen angel than an NBA player, a fallen angel thats dropping 40+ points on the world. Not only was it remarkable what the Mamba did as a player, but he pulled the impossible by repairing his image. A sexual assault case will end you bro, almost always.
@Lakers fan and lets not forget that at one point when he wasn't playing basketball he was in court facing a trial, that ends lives and he still managed to put up an MVP caliber season.
About half of the comments on this video are from people who didn't watch the video. Dom did a good job covering all the angles, but commenters are asking questions he specifically answered in the video! Also, there is no way a Kobe/CP3/Howard team would have been THAT much better than the Kobe/Nash/Howard/Gasol team. Anybody who thinks this was going to make the Lakers the best team in the league have forgotten what happened when Kobe and Dwight eventually teamed up. It was bad. They nearly missed the playoffs.
Thank you! It's like people don't remember how good the Heat were, or how good those TP/Manu/TD Spurs teams were. Or the KD/Russ/Harden Thunder. CP is a great player, but he probably wouldn't have gotten the Lakers over the hump, especially with how critical Pau was to the Lakers.
snooze - the most obvious reason was that it was a shit trade. Dragic has value, but Odom and Martin were not going to help the Hornets win game despite their large contracts. What owner would want that?
I completely forgot to mention, by my next video it is more than likely I will have reached or passed 200K. Exciting times as it comes exactly a year from last spring when I reached 100K.

Can't believe your comment is almost six years old
As a laker fan it pisses me off to see this because i remember flipping my shit in high school only to be heartbroken hours later lmao But it surprises me how so many people especially laker fans are misinformed about this
what pissed me off about the lock out was how they targeted the lakers.
Lol I rejoiced when the trade was vetoed you guys can't let Chicago have shit no wonder everybody hates the Lakers
@@DarthKrellon23 lol
@@DarthKrellon23 And I'm rejoicing the Lakers back on top.
As Lakers fan, i always understood this. I was never mad about the veto cause the NBA did own the Hornets. My problem was that they basically fucked up the Lakers future without any sort of compensation. All the struggle the Lakers went through can be traced back to that trade.
also that bs narrative that no superstar wanted to play with Kobe. chris paul did and he was furious that trade got nixed he wanted to play with Kobe.
NBA ruined our Kobe/Lebron finals match up...Well really Lebron ruined those chances from 08-2010 when the Kobe was going to
3 straight finals and Lebron's teams winning over 60 plus games during the regular season couldn't get his team to the finals but I digress...lol
challenge?? hell nah that Heat team can't even beat the Mavs, and that Heat team even struggled a lot against an old ass Spurs lmao🤣 considering the fact that Cp3 at that time playing his best and Kobe before the achilles playing like the best player in the league, there's no competition at all they can take down that athletic Heat team bruh..but unfortunately Bron is the golden boy not Kobe
@@cornelius8124 yeah sure
The NBA feared Kobe Bryant
New Orleans Chris Paul was a monster
Great job on the video dude! I remember this cp3 trade getting vetoed, but other than the NBA's basketball reasons quote, I wasn't aware of the additional details. Again good job!
God damn David stern
Nifty Noldog don’t use God’s name in vain
Joel gosh diggity darn David stern
Nifty Noldog thank you
Nifty Noldog lmfao!!!!!!
gosh diggity is the best thing I've seen in the internet today lol
What if Kevin Durant joined the 73 win Warriors
3-1
Huh... That would be weird
I can't stand David Stern
@@crutt1026 rip to him 🙏
Rip
Corruption kills you.
Have you been playing too much Runescape
Kobe played one of the best season in 2012 so did Paul. If they teammed up Kobe vs Lebron would have been 100% and many rings for L.A
They clearly conspired against Kobe.
@@123dan165 facts. Kobe goat
Complete BS
I've been slacking. Gotta get back to catching Dom's vids on time 🔥
They didn't want Kobe having 6+ rings
You know you are amazing when the NBA itself conspires against you, just like Lewis Hamilton in Formula 1 not getting his 8th championship vs Verstappen.
Honestly I felt that they didn't want Kobe to win his 6th ring to be tied with Jordan and REALLY have a debate about which 2 guard was better 🤷🏾♂️
Don't be a tin foil hat
Erik Lerström Lmao here we go with you people
Curtis Jordan I think if Kobe did tied Jordan with rings I’m pretty sure the majority of people will still say Jordan is better. Jordan will still have more Finals MVPs, Regular season MVPs, DPOY, and scoring titles than Kobe.
ViolentVz and is just flat out better
Curtis Jordan 👍×1,000
Great research Dom
Dom I really appreciated that. I, like others, just knew it wasn't fair but didn't really look to find out why. I look forward to more of your work bro.
The clippers stole Chris Paul
And wasted his career
And made up for it by trading the pick that ended up as Kyrie Irving for Mo Williams.
Brace Brooks not this year buddy..
Me vs. Everybody agreed. That's what was fucking frustrating. It was almost like they wanted to rub in our face
They didn't want Kobe to win more rings
The clippers play in a big market but are marketed as a small market team. They have sucked for their entire existence until they got cp3 and the lakers have the LA and national media attention. Clippers are the red headed step child of LA
Still pisses me off til this day!!! They robbed Kobe of his 6th ring!! Guess they didn't want him tied with Jordan smfh
That would be dope to see a big 3 of CP3, Dwight and Kobe
this is why kawhi, pg13, and butler tried to force their ways out of their team. if the league and their owners is literally colluding where players get to go, the superstar players will obviously take the power back and dictate their own destination.
Kobe & Cp3 would be Harden & Cp3 but on ANOTHER LEVEL 😢
Can you run this trade in an old 2k to see how the teams would do?
Time to fire up 2k10 for PS2
I did it on 2K10 and CP3 Kobe and Dwight make 3 finals split with Miami and Kobe got his 6th
!thanks for clarifying it dom! Appriciate it much, keep it up!!
This is awesome you give the most intelligent content on the web from a sports fan perspective I liked and subbed and shared because I'm one of those people and so are my friends, we had no idea why the NBA jumped in a multi team trade LOL
Maybe it's just because of when I spent my formative years, but LeBron just looks RIGHT in a Heat jersey.
Bro u going blow up trust me
The nba really just ain’t like Kobe to be honest one mvp & then couldn’t get cp3 really ??
They didn’t want Kobe to get that 6th ring lmao
Kobe would have 6-7 rings dam his GOAT status would have increased
Luke Bashian, he has no GOAT status. Only to delusional Laker fans and Kobetards he does.
Eddie Bowles
You clearly don't watch basketball 😂
Luke Bashian damn what are you on
Lol, no.
KxngAJ it's another bot account, there's one person who runs hundreds of these and spams the same comments on thousands of Kobe related videos.
Because him and Kobe would have gotten 2-3 rings together .
The nba should veto cousins to the warriors
Thanks for this 👏 I didn’t really understand why this happened until now. God bless you and your channel.
Dom stay with the smooth transitions into the promos😂
It's still a conversation 10+ years later.
They should of still traded him he wanted to go there they wanted him the NBA obstructed the players trade
I appreciate someone finally getting to this topic b/c it has been a question of mine for the longest thank you Dom2k💯
They were hating, they didn't want my boi teaming up with Kobe and owning the west
Not just the west, the whole league.
Big deal, there are some teams that never even won a championship and here people are complaining about not getting an 18th ring.
The crying over the letter part. 💀💀💀
Amazing video as always. Love your work man. Lots of information here I never knew about.
This new editing is great!
Best basketball channel man
So this trade was vetoed but the Golden State All Stars are allowed everything?! Makes no sense at all
Are you fucking serious? Or just a troll?
Mr. Jordan - did you watch the video? The NBA owned the Hornets at that time. The team owner vetoed the trade because it was a terrible one. They do not own the Warriors.
Justin Y. 2.0 I guess you didn’t watch the video
Nobody has the hardwood app we’ll never find the light
Almighty Sosa bruh
Erik Lerström bruh I’m dying of hear
7:52 "...because there wasn't gonna be a ton more super teams" 😂🤣🤣😂😂🤣😂
No trade will ever compare to KD going to the warriors unless for some miraculous reason lebron went to the warriors.
Justin Dminic maybe bron to the heat or whatever team bron goes to this summer
Daniel Clark not a good comparison because whatever team lebron chooses to go to automatically becomes championship contenders. The heat the 2 years before lebron joined were barely above .500 in win/loss ratio. He made the team good with the other players that joined. KD joined the best regular season team ever that lost the finals by 1 win and the team that beat him in the playoffs by 1 win . There’s no comparison.
Justin Dminic uh that Heat team didn't only add lebron they also got Bosh who the year before then was averaging 24pts and 12reb a game.
MrSquaky not to mention that wade was the second best player in the league at that point. So yea it's a pretty good comparison
Erik Lerstrom
Lebon had a Prime Wade, Prime Bosh and Ray Allen, Brass knuckles my ass...
Dom have you ever thought about starting a podcast? You got the voice for it and truly good basketball pods are hard to find.
Anybody here after the nets picked up Aldridge?👀👀
Congrats on 200k Dom! You the 🐐, I love your content!😁🤘🏽
so they vetoed it cause they could, but they can't do shit about these superteams being created cause they can't.
Not saying this move wasn't shady, but that's the logic behind it
God you ain’t very bright
darkcurrypowder i understand it.
Yanick T so lebron could get his ring...
Love the editing
Could've potentially had Kobe vs Lebron in the finals
Still till this day it pisses me off that Chris didn’t come to LA and Kobe could’ve got his 6 ring
This algorithm getting too good
the veto in my opinion did help smaller markets and less popular locations attract players they wouldn't have been able to otherwise. if the lakers stayed a prominent location no one would have gone to okc or new orleans or even golden state.
Baby crying background part was gold
Now this is gonna be a fire ass vid
this is literally directly linked to Kobe's legacy and I'm hella salty about it. Kobe wins 6 or 7 if cp3 goes to the Lakers SMDH
This makes complete sense ... great vid !
WE NEED A VETO NOW
When it was vetoed I was so happy cause I was a Celtics trade & didn't want the Lakers to get another chip, but now looking back I wish CP3 had gotten a chance to play on a real contender and I would've loved to see Kobe go up against LeBron in the finals.
Boy Chris Paul & Kobe Bryant together would've been unstoppable
Would've been the greatest duo of all time.
@@demetriusgaines59 ikr the NBA always hated on Kobe never gave him what he wanted but they treat Lebron like royalty they give anything he asks for I bet they'll get him a hot fudge sundae if he asked for it
I been waiting for this video forever
Nba didn't want kobe n chris p too shit on the rest of the competition
Great video man, keep it up
Where is the part 3 to best playoff series?
