The moment when Tywin Lannister Slaughtering a deer, depicts Robert Baratheon dying at the hands of the Lannisters.

It is a harsh criticism of Ned, but it's an absolutely correct one. Ned's entire mental space revolved around the idea that he had truth & justice on his side and that's all that matters. That is not how this world works and he should know that by now. Ned not only threatened Cercei, but gave her time to put a plan together. Maybe Ned should've thought of a plan...

This is why my favorite scene in the entire show is [[No Spoilers]] when someone tells the story of the Mad King in season 3. Just puts everything Ned Stark believed into perspective.

Charles Dance (Tywin) skinned a real deer in the scene.
He said following about it (per Esquire):
"They came to me and said 'Charles, are you a vegetarian?' I Said 'No, of course not'. So they got this butcher Chap to show me how to skin a whole deer and then I did it, and I did it well..."

I like how you recognize that not siding with Renly was detrimental, he was the only one aside from the crown with actual man power in the city, surely they could have enforced Robert's letter at a minimum.

I don't think Renly's plan would have worked, Baelish was too cunning and likely had a plan if they attempted a coup, Renly was wise to leave when he did, Baelish had Ned so he didn't need to have Renly and his men hunted down, the plan to usurp Robert had been underway for some time.

@@m.ericwatson968It may have worked if they played the long game - Renly having Loras for a lover means he has the reach in his pocket - tons of money, tons of men, plus the people love Renly. Even in king's Landing they love him, so anything happening to him publicly would be bad for PR. And as he said, whoever has the king has the kingdom. It could have gone sideways in a number of ways but it was just as likely to work for them if Ned had cooperated. Sadly...

Not sure if you knew, when Ned was writing Robert’s last words he put “Until my rightful heir” not “Until my son Joffrey comes of age”

Ned Stark was a man of true honor. The problem is, men of honor need to recognize their foes may not be honorable and plan for it. Stark was too trusting and refused to listen, first when Littlefinger told him the smartest thing he had done was to not trust him ad second when Cersei told him the facts of life about playing the Game of Thrones. She was basically telling him "I will kill you unless you kill me first." Should have listened and learned.

Right from the first Littlefinger was playing with Ned Stark, the way a cat plays with a mouse before killing it. His tone was always mocking and he was always smirking because he was amused at how easy it was to play with Ned. It was so easy that he almost always told Ned what was happening before it happened. Take what he said to Lord Stark at their last meeting: "When the queen proclaims one king and the hand proclaims another, who's peace do the gold cloaks protect? The one who pays them." If you think about it, who are the richest family in the Seven Kingdoms? Even here Littlefinger was toying with Ned, feeding him an obvious question while confident that Ned wouldn't think his way to the logical answer. Ned was a babe lost in the woods of King's Landing.

    Another great reaction!
Everything you said is on point, and it’s interesting to see how… there are no winning scenarios, are there?
Regarding Jon Snow’s grooming for command: think about Lord Commander Mormont. He is an old man, who knows how many more years he’ll be around?
Who is there to step in his role? Some thief from King’s Landing?
Or a Stark (doesn’t matter that he’s a bastard, not on the Wall), grown into a noble family, who understands command and who - let’s not forget - volunteered to be there?
It doesn’t hurt that he’s incredibly skilled with a sword!

You are very strategic in your thinking, this will allow you to appreciate this show on the level few viewers do! Especially during the first viewing. My 2 cents: say what you will about Little Finger, he was pretty honest with Ned, trying to make him see that his honorable way would get him nowhere in Kings Landing. As I see it, Ned didn't think that Kings Landing changed over the years he lived in Winterfell, while everyone in it spent this time lying, scheming, and clawing their way to power. He just went on under the impression that everyone is like him - honest, upfront, and honorable. He also didn't care to discover anyone's agenda, unveil people's true allegiances, and see who is being paid by whom. And yet, he presumed to make big moves like calling Tywin a traitor and confronting Cersei. I mean, what did he think was going to happen? Ned literally has 0 strategic thoughts in his head. Sadly.

Renly was right, they should have seized the throne and taken Cersai and Joffrey prisoner, when Ned refused Renly should have told Ned he was leaving the city though Ned likely would have stayed, all too late now.

Ned ddin't wqant any witnesses to his deception....notice the King said Joffrey but Ned didn't write Joffrey he wrote in the "rightful heir" which he would say is not Joffrey. So you could say that Ned is disobeying the King's wishes to put his own little honorable spin on things that could be seen as treacherous

Robert kicked everyone out of the room except for Ned… I don’t think Ned was going to pause and bring the other guys in just to hear what Robert said… maybe you missed the detail of Ned changing it to “rightful heir” instead of what Robert said “my son Joffrey”

@@ImmersiveReactions In the books it's made clear that he made a deal with Cersei to pay for her. Ned is too honorable and too merciful, a good person in a world of snakes.
