On paper, the Ravens are in a tough situation but let me put it this way. They remind me a lot of the Boston Celtics. A franchise that has been one of the best at developing talented players, coaches, and executives, they're always championship contenders no matter who they have, they have a vision and stick to it no matter how rough things get, and if they don't succeed at first, it won't stop them from trying until they get it done. No matter how many people they've lost, they always find ways to fill those voids. Also, I'm not buying the whole they got lucky last year because everyone was injured crap. The Ravens were the ones who knocked out most of those QBs, and they played 14 out of 17 games against teams over 500. (The only three games that were against sub-500 teams saw them playing in London, in Arizona 2 weeks after the London game, and playing the Chargers in LA with a still-healthy Justin Herbert.) They had as difficult a schedule as you could have last year and they still made the AFC Championship Game only to lose to KC.
The funny thing about this year is that this year has the potential to be identical to their championship season of 2012. The AFC Favorite to reach the Super Bowl the year before, suffers a devastating loss in the AFC Championship against a dynasty, loses a ton of depth in the offseason, including the defensive coordinator and some of his staff, the franchise QB gets roasted for not getting it done in the playoffs, Harbaugh being victimized by a few bad decisions and terrible luck, the media saying that their best years are behind them and that they won't make the playoffs, all of the injured star QBs from the previous year are now healthy, the AFC North is stacked, a franchise icon dies prior to the start of the season, they have a brutal schedule, the AFC QB room is loaded, the Super Bowl is in New Orleans, and its been 12 years since the most recent championship.
YOU! CAN'T! MAKE! THIS! CRAP! UP!

Defense came out slow and even they will tell you they had to be perfect in the 2nd half and they were but everyone could have been better you can win 13-10 or 17-16 or 10-7 we didn’t get it done - if they have that thought process everyone from GM to Lamar to D to special teams they will be fine - They didn’t wanna pay Lamar and this is what we got from him he was great last year. To me the O-line is the only real question mark on this iteration of the team, as compared to last year.
Orr will be running the same scheme as Mike Mac and even if he lacks the gameplanning / playcalling acumen of his former boss, the star talent alone should keep us a top 10 defense.
Offensively this might be the most continuity we've seen for a Ravens QB/OC/weapons trio ever. Can't wait to see what wrinkles Monk has in year 2.
I think Stanley can still hack it at LT and Linderbaum is rapidly ascending toward being a top 10 center. Other than that, it's question marks all the way through. That being said, I think this year was the perfect time for a retool in the room - we've been drafting developmental OL for several years now, at some point you've gotta let the youngsters play. If we can get decent play out of 1-2 guys between Vorhees, Cleveland, Sala, Faalele, and Rosengarten, I think we'll make do. I'm just hoping we avoid a 2021 repeat where almost the entire line sucks ass and Lamar gets hurt

Imo, the final nail in the coffin for PQ was Baltimore not picking up his 5th year option. It was clear he was gone after that. Simpson balled in week 18 against starters that were in an all out win mode. I think the ravens will get at least 80% of PQ at a fraction of the price.

I diagree with the concerns over Queen leaving. He had been considered a bust up until the Ravens traded for Smith, then he was suddenly having career numbers. No reason to think Simpson can't benefit from that same effect playing next to Roquan.
With that being said, I do somwhat share your concern about the edge rush situation. Ojabo has shown nothing as a pro, and Oweh reminds me of a young Clowny; disruptive in the backfield but rarely ever able to actually make the play. Hopefully Oweh can do what Za'Darius Smith and Matthew Judon have done in the past and have a breakout year in his contract year.

Being a Ravens fan, my concerns for this team remains in the trenches, primarily at edge rusher and offensive line.
The fact that the Ravens lack a premier edge rusher when our rivals in the AFC North have their man remains a sore spot for me, cause I don't like it that they have someone who can collapse the pocket and make Lamar comfortable, whereas we can only rely on our interior guys for the same purpose. Oweh needs to break out, and fast, cause the pressure that guys like Suggs and Judon brought as Ravens? We are sorely missing that right now, while Lamar has to constantly worry about Garrett/Hendrickson/Watt getting their hands on him for the sack.
The offensive line is also another concern, cause look no further than the Steelers to see what happens when you don't have a good protection for your skill players. The Ravens lost 3 starters to free agency, and while they have depth pieces, it only takes one weak link to bring the whole line down. We need a good line if we are going to bull rush through opposing defenses, be it Lamar or Henry with the ball.
Until we can definitively shore up our edge and offensive line, while I trust our offensive and defensive units, the schedule and the AFC North "arms race" makes it hard to say "yes, we will be playing football in January". Every team in the AFC North has a shot, and like in every division, one team inevitably has to draw the shortest straw in the standings, so the whole "every team has a shot" narrative also means it is possible the Ravens finish in last place, especially if the injury bug plagues us yet again like prior years. The Ravens have the higher odds, but I am not betting all my eggs in this basket just yet.

Stone himself couldn’t “replace” the defensive production of Geno Stone last season. You know why? Because most if not all of those ints were a simple matter of “right place, right time” not due to a talented ball hawk safety. He just happened to be behind overthrown receivers, in the area of a horrible pass or deflection. It was insane how fortunate & lucky he was.
People see the int numbers & think he’s an amazing safety… but he was slightly below average at best.

Ok so I think I have a bit of a different philosophy on the counter to the good qb play. I don’t think a great secondary is necessary, I think it’s more effective with a dominant front seven. Examples the current lions, the ravens of yesterder year, the current Steelers. Examples of going to the dominant secondary, the packers for the last decade, the chiefs and the bears. None of those defenses are anything to fret about. Food for thought, anyone think of an example to disprove me or can explain how a better secondary is more productive to qb play over the front seven?

Sure, the Ravens have lost a lot of players. Yet, there are only three I think will hurt: Gus Edwards, Kevin Zeitler and Devin Duvernay.
What makes me think losing this many players and coaches won't be a problem too big is that the organization knew it all along. They had a year to make plans and start making the necessary moves. The two questions we can't answer yet are: 1) how good a DC Zach Orr will be; 2) how Simpson will do at ILB. These are genuine questions. Personally, I have a lot of faith in Zach Orr - he was my top replacement candidate when McDonald left, anyway. As for Simpson, I genuinely have no idea. The camp will be telling. I'm positive EDC wouldn't have allowed Queen to walk if they didn't think he they could replace him to the extent required - whether they thought of Simpson or another player, I have no idea. But they had someone in mind, of that I'm sure.

Before Roquan got there, queen was suppose to be the top middle LB and he didn't live up to the 1st round pick that he was. Rashod Bateman z flowers are great receivers this is their year. Not to mention this is going to be a tight end running team so you got Andrews and Isaiah likely who also can play receiver and showed how great he is going to be last year. The Ravens are going to use a lot double tight end sets with Derrick Henry in the backfield they're going to go heavy a lot Bateman and Jay are both going to get a lot of single coverage and mismatches and Bateman is always open if you'd have watched any of his game film or any of their training camp you would know that rashod Bateman is going to be a star. Joe Burrow wasn’t healthy in week 2 when the Ravens beat them last year. He had a calf strain in training camp that wasn’t better until like week 4. You are going to see what a healthy Joe Burrow can do to the Ravens this year. When Burrow was better last year they went to San Francisco and easily beat the 49ers and they did the same thing to the Bills. But yea I agree with you that the Ravens will regress this year. The only place to go is down. Let’s look at what they lost. Their LG, RG, RT and their RG was a Pro Bowler. Their RB1 and RB2 and they replaced both of them with 1 30 year old RB. Yes I know it’s Derrick Henry but I said he was 30! He will be 31 before next season ends. They lost a still good WR OBJ. They lost an All Pro MLB, Their top edge rusher in Clowney. He led the team in pressures and was 2nd in sacks 1st among the edge players. They lost a safety that pulled down 7 interceptions for them. And they lost a brilliant Defensive Coordinator which is probably the biggest loss. And who did they replace all these people with? Derrick Henry who I already discussed and a safety that’s past his prime at age 30. Not all safety are past their prime at 30 but Eddie Jackson is. He has missed 18 games in the last 3 seasons too. And that’s it folks. They replaced 2 RBs with 1 RB and a safety in his prime for a safety past his prime. They will have a rookie RT a rookie LG. It’s his second year but he was hurt all year last year. And a backup will be playing RG. Oh and their LT is an injury waiting to happen. They are replacing All Pro Patrick Queen with a guy who has only played 40 or so snaps so a rookie. They didn’t replace Clowney with anyone and they didn’t replace OBJ with anyone. And they might have jumped the gun on Justin Madebeke. I don’t think he is worth anywhere near where they paid him. I don’t think he is a difference maker and a lot of his sacks were clean ups.

  • @interesting_characteristic23
    @interesting_characteristic23 2 месяца назад

The only real losses were Clowney, Zeitler and PQ. The Ravens develop offensive lineman and sign and get production out of veteran defensive players like no other team. The Ravens are a farm system for developing defensive coordinators into head coaches. Next man up. The Ravens would have won the division, even if Joe Burrow had stayed healthy. Lamar owns him. Laura has had the Ravens in contention for the number one seed every year he has been on the team other than his rookie season.

Ravens are better-off on both sides of the ball than last year, Queen won’t be missed because they didn’t even offer Queen an a 5th year extension.
Queen learned how to be an effective LB from Roquan Smith. Simpson will do same. O-line is the weakest link but they’re young and will get it together. Oweh has a lot of pressures and Ojabo is back to play the position he was drafted for in place of Clowny.
Talking heads on RUclips are saying a lot better things about Ravens than they were last year. Henry will have a career year and so will Bateman and Likely ✌️

You do realize that the Ravens were missing half of their starting Offensive Line, half of their starting Secondary, and most of their Pass Rush, Kyle Van Noy wasn't on the team yet, no JK Dobbins, OBJ got hurt late in the 1st Half, Mark Andrews wasn't 100% either, Rashod Bateman also got hurt in that game, plus that game was in Cincinnati and the Bengals still ended up losing that game. The only reason why that game was even close was because the Ravens had 2 TDs called back by penalties, Tucker missed two field goals, and the Bengals had a punt return TD that should have been called back. Baltimore was the better team in both games by a significant margin. Don't tell me that Burrow being injured was the reason they lost because it wasn't. Not with Todd Monken coaching circles around Lou Anarumu.

@@michaelhession2105 you are entitled to your opinion. Our entire offense was barely functional until a third of the way thru the season, but I was more thinking of the thursday night game where we were looking really good until your linebacker landed funny on our qb’s wrist.

@@duncanohio I was at that Thursday Night game. The Bengals had issues that night on offense even before Burrow got injured. They were forced to burn two early timeouts because of how loud it was in the stadium, (The Blackout is a death sentence for anybody) Evan McPherson missed a field goal, and most of their yards came from Joe Mixon because the Ravens took away Chase and Boyd. ("But Tee Higgins wasn't playing!" The Ravens didn't have Marlon Humphrey either) Not to mention this was also the game where the Ravens lost Mark Andrews for the season and they were without both starting tackles for most of the game. The reason why the Ravens won both of those games was because Cincinnati couldn't stop the run, or Lamar Jackson from the pocket. The Bengals would have had to score over 30 points at minimum to win that 2nd game, which is nearly impossible because the Ravens have given up over 30 points once in a home primetime game under Harbaugh.

This Michael guy is still aggressively defending his Ravens and expects people outside the Ravens fanbase to care 😂

LAMAR has 2MVP'S and 2 playoff wins. I guess Dak Prescott is Lamar Jackson without the MVP'S.

Peyton Manning had damn near the same start to his career as Lamar as had... Winning in the playoffs is hard, not everybody is Mahomes/Brady
