  • Have you ever heard a commotion in the bushes and thought, there must be a hundred birds out there, but you couldn't find them? And finally you see this guy. This is the northern mockingbird. It can imitate dozens of other birds. It can also imitate cats and dogs, crickets and frogs and even door hinges and car alarms.

Love listening to the mockingbirds...their imitation of so many different birds and animals makes you think you're in a huge neighborhood full of birds, etc....when you maybe all alone in the wilderness....too cool!

I just had that experience this morning. It was early and i thought all the birds were awake but it was one just doing a crazy solo on the power line.

Yes, it does. When I go for a walk and hear the bird calls, I think that there are all types of exotic birds chirping about. Then I spot the Mockingbird. 😆

In my neighborhood, there is a self storage facility about a block away. It has an automatic gate that makes a unique beeping sound when the gate opens and closes when a car goes into the lot. The mockingbirds around here have incorporated that beeping sound into their song routines...lol. It's the funniest thing, you can listen for the different bird sounds they are singing, but hear that gate alarm thrown in. Great video, thanks for posting!

I have enjoyed your videos for years. I often wonder, "Did he find that critter in Hartsville (where I live) or is he traveling? And did he shoot that on his phone or did he use something fancier? What kind of mic captures that sound clearly? I appreciate how laid back the narration is when it is included.

Hey neighbor! I use a fairly inexpensive camera. It's a Coolpix L820. It does pretty good if you can get up fairly close. The vast majority of my videos are filmed here in Hartsville. A lot of them are filmed in my yard. Most of the audio is from the camera's built in mic. But sometimes I record with my son's mic. That mics name brand is Blue. I use Power Director editing software to string clips together. It's been a learning experience. Thanks for watching.
