While working on some property owned by my brother in law, my husband, our cat and I stayed there for a week. My cat walked around complaining the whole time, he wanted his couch. The last day we were there, a mockingbird began to meow like the cat. The cat was not amused.
Their songs are so beautiful and varied. One of the most soothing sounds I've ever heard. Recorded one on my phone and use the song as my alarm. No better way to wake up.
I was walking my dog when I came across a tree. I didn't think much of it and kept walking. All of a sudden, something smacks me from behind. I bat the thing off, assuming it is a bug when a wing slaps my face! They're cute, aggressive little buggers. They were unhappy because I had gotten too close to a mockingbird nest!
I was watching this video with the sound up all the way on my phone. A local Mockingbird (Oklahoma) flew very close and sat on a phone wire and listened intently to this recording. He flew behind me and to both sides, trying to find the bird making this call.
Thank you for sharing this. My cat is watching it on the TV, and she is absolutely mesmerized, just as I am. I hear these birds in my own backyard, but never get to see them up close.
