- A playthrough of JY Team's 1995 unlicensed NES action game, Aladdin.
In 1994 the NES played host to an "official" game based on Aladdin, fully licensed by both Disney and Nintendo. It was a colorized port of the Game Boy game, which was itself a demake of the Sega Genesis game, and it was awful. If you'd like to see it for yourself, you can find my playthrough of it here: • Disney's Aladdin (NES,...
This version, created by Hummer Team, is a demake of Capcom's 1993 SNES game ( • Aladdin (SNES) Playthr... ), and it's a better game in every respect. It features recreations of all the SNES stages, and even though the controls are loose and awkward, the gameplay is a reasonable approximation of the original game.
The graphics are great, and the sprites and backdrops all stay faithful to Capcom's game despite the reduced color depth. As in all of Hummer Team's games, there is some heavy flickering and sprite dropout when the action gets heavy, but it rarely gets in the way of the gameplay.
The net result of Hummer Team's efforts blow the doors off of the embarrassingly poor official NES game. There little reason to play either at this point - the SNES and Genesis games that these conversions are based on are clearly the versions to go for - but the 8-bit demakes do still make for an interesting conversation.

NintendoComplete (www.nintendocom...) punches you in the face with in-depth reviews, screenshot archives, and music from classic 8-bit NES games!
This demake of the SNES Aladdin game totally wipes the floor with the official Aladdin NES cart. That's gotta be embarrassing.
It's just confusing why the official version of Aladdin is the way it is. I think Lion King on NES also went through the same fate.
9:40 But, still lava level was pretty hard in NES version
I didn't know this existed - probably because I was never that much into consoles after I got hooked into computers; I liked playing through emulation though, but I didn't have interest into looking for stuff I wasn't already familiar with (which would be mostly commercial/official games) until all kinds of interesting stuff started to seep into my knowledge through... RUclips.
May I inquire, why the term "demake"? What exactly does it mean and how does it differ from "remake" and/or "port"? Seems to me the most common word for this kind of conversion to other platforms would be "port" and I've never seen them called "demake" before so I'm interested to learn how this word became to use :)
@@robsku1
My gist of it is that a Demake is basically taking a game and "porting" it to weaker hardware.
Basically, a port on weaker hardware than what the game should've been. But I think someone can explain the term with more depth.
@@royalkumar795 It's not that hard with savestates.
I actually played this as a kid, but I had a version that didn't played music on most of the stages, or, when it did, it continously played the bonus stage theme. Still, I loved it.
That definitely was an issue with one of the variants. I think I’ve seen footage of it
Eih, same with me. I have ever play it when I was a kid. And without a Soundtrack/ only bonus stage music only.
Me either, sometimes it's dead silent and it felt like jumping and throwing stuff echoed which was slightly creepy😂😂
This is Aladdin NES - the good edition.
21:42 I still remember this password, after 20+ years
where I grew up we used to get Famiclones and bootleg.
Years later when I played the OG SNES version of this game, I realized that this was a bootleg game.
I use this game's passwords for some of my online accounts...
Hummer Team usually has some good gems, so I'm not surprised that this blew the official release away. This project seemed like EXTRA love was put into it though. This must have been someone's baby.
Sim
Pure nostalgia ❤❤❤
That's very sad because the bootleg of this is better than the official!
Are you saying this version is better than the original SNES version? I played both and as bad as the SNES may be (it's not IMO) this bootleg is actually unplayable.
@@mahmoudhajiTough ???
@@mahmoudhajiThey mean it’s better than the official NES version, not the SNES version
The gem collecting sound is the same as the ring collecting sound from Somari (also by Hummer Team)
Demakes are such an interesting thing to behold...
And this bootleg Demake is no different.
Nostalgic 🥺🥺
Absolute incredible Work from the famous Hummer-Team!
This version looks like the SNES version, but the graphics are brighter.
One of my favorite video games i could flip (complete) that's a chicago saying lol.. Thanks for playing this
I like how he’s calmly flying with Jasmine through the lava-filled collapsing cave of wonders.
One hell of a date.
In all it’s wonderful limitation goodness. Wait, Aladdin and Jasmine escaping The Cave of Wonders what???? 👀😂
Prince Ali
It's most likely to save cart space, as there is a scene later in the game that uses that same sprite
There's a recent patch for fixing that.
My heart thank you. My eyes havnt seen this since I was maybe 8. Wow...
I was so surprised to know this is a bootleg version of sorts, given how fun it is! And the official one is utter crap wtf
I LOVE this GAME 6-17 Age play Almost every Day - Thanks Bro 💙
I remember Aladdin's scream is replaced by some SFX whenever he takes damage in NES version. And the music during roulette was using password music.
I also remember there's also Popeye version where Aladdin's head was replaced with Popeye's.
Also when gameover if you choose NOT to continue, "lost a life" music will be playing before you return to main menu.
Amazing game i remember my 4th class life
The music
Respect for the player
I didn't know this game was bootleg for more than 20 years.
How did people play this back then? All I can find on this are roms but no pictures of actual cartridges
@@coolguy_altplayed this in cartridge in india back in 1998
The Classic Aladin
12:27 - Remember the scene in the movie where Aladdin and Jasmine fly through the Cave of Wonders, dodging falling boulders and boiling lava?
If I remember correctly there was no music in Aladdin Nes cartridge , music is only play on 1:31 bonus bee , 1:56 complete level, 2:00 bonus round and 23:29 Final boss ..
I was about to say that. My cartridge had no music except the places you pointed out. For me the main menu also had music, but the final boss didnt. It was weird running around in complete silent levels with only the sound effects playing.
You probably have a bootleg version of the game that was reproduced by many of pirates who put the game on tons of multicarts.
In order to save space so they could put it on multicarts and make it easy to burn it on to an EEPROM, the pirates removed some of the music some from stages, which as a side effect of this, the music doesn't restart after you a complete a stage in most levels. The pirates also removed some of the animations as well.
Hummer also put a dip switch in the cart for Aladdin that when jumped, will turn the game into a Popeye game.
@@Taneuma_563 Also in the bootleg versions of this port Aladdin start the game with 7 lifes and 7 (max) hearts. So, you need to get genie twice in the Bonus roulette to upgrade your max hearts to 9
That does seem to be a common issue. Maybe it was a glitch with the most distributed version
Looks like an early PC Engine game, closer to 16 bit graphics. Excellent for a NES GAME
I like how they used the song “escape of the infidels” for the bosses. It’s my favorite song from the game, and is a solid remake of the OST from the SNES game.
12:28 - GENIE, FUCK!!! When I said I wanted to be a prince and marry Jasmine I didn't mean HERE
Thanks man!
I've tried to replay the games i used to like as as kid and was utterly confused with the "official" version.
"I kind of remember it, mb, but i don't remember it being so ugly and clumsy... And the SNES one looks more familiar, although i've never had SNES... wtf..."
But thanks to your video i now know that i've actually played the unlicensed version (most probably on some knock-off cartridge, as we did not have other ones at the time). Those flying jars, cloud level, being able to jump on enemies... yep, that's the one.
12:52 NOOOO!! JASMIN!!
😂😂
@@bibianotecnico2506 😂 Same sprite from the bonus level
There is also another unlicensed port of Aladdin. It called Super Aladdin. Its better than the official port but it only have 4 levels
It’s based on the MD version and it is also pretty good
I wonder how these bootlegs would sound like if they used the MMC5 or VRC6 mappers
Probably not much different unless they also got a better sound programmer :(
@@NintendoComplete they would definitely sound different. The driver here is from Dezaemon and Deblock from Athena
This game and some other hummer team games actually use mappers similar to the MMC5, although there is no extra audio. Also most of these games were hacked to the MMC3 mappernas that was the most common one for multicarts, so even if they could, they would likely not make much of use out of it
Foe those who couldn't afford computer games this was the best one 😊, nostalgic memories with my brother playing this game
And I still remember the password to stage 3
Monkey Aladdin girl Aladdin 😂
Heh, I actually owned a cart of this one ages ago, alongside the official Aladdin game. There's essentially no comparison, the official game is boring and half-baked. I also liked the SMS version, it's a pretty faithful retelling of the original story!
Yeah, I really liked the Master System one. It's the same as the Game Gear one.
@@NintendoComplete Aladdin. good remember.
@matt allen Yeah, there were 'tons' of NES/Famicom games still past '91, until '94 or so, pretty much 'till the advent of PS1. It's like that with most consoles, all things considred; Super Famicom games would also keep on coming out until '99/2000 or so.
@matt allen Switch will surely be like this too. There are apparently more than 4000 games for it already, and it's still many years away from getting discontinued... guess most consoles tend to be like that. Gotta milk that cow until the very end.
@@NintendoComplete Interesting :)
Isn’t this game using the same chip as for Somari?
It is, same developers and sound
Hummersoft did an okay job at porting the SNES game.
Man the difference between the NES and SNES is striking
Game play looks great, someone needs to revamp the sound like they did in the latest Sonic demake. The final snake boss would also be epic.
Already exists a patch that replaces the soundtrack of the game for a much better one. Google "Aladdin 4 Music Replacement"
You should also play the other unlicensed Aladdin NES game which is a copy of Mega Drive version and is a lot better than the official NES one.
Super Aladdin?
This Version was really awesome and difficult to complete, the SNES Version was a little bit easy. ❤️❤️❤️❤️
12:52 jajajaja esa parte siempre me hacia reir
This still isn't the perfect version, because there's another one out there that's just like this, only they swap Aladdin's head with Popeye's. I'd try sharing a link but lately that's resulted in my comments just not appearing.
알라신~~~~~~~~~~~~!!!!
The game has an another version titled “Popeye 2:Travels in Persia”
looks better than license version
This game was actually very important in my gaming career
I really wished that Hummer Team had someone who could do actual music... Most of their games looks like the people doing the graphics and programing where also in charge of the sound/music. And the "sound driver" they had was really bad. Since they where doing illegal ports anyway, would hurt to steal Konami or Sunsoft's "sound driver"? It would improve a lot their games.
They actually used Konami's sound driver for their port of Bab's Big Break I believe.
I remember completing this version way back on my nes clone console, didn't realise that it was a bootleg or the demake or snes
I was thinking that I finished this game but now I see that I completed only half of it.
That game was going to Suppost to finish thr Nes Version
The Hammer team did a great job
Funny because I remember this looking alot better on the super nintendo...maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me...
Bruh I loved this when I was small 😢
Stage 5 Theme Like Game Over Theme from SNES Aladdin!
Still remember that password.
Jasmine, Alladin, Alladin, Genie
In the words of chris rock, Oh-ho Wow!, Wow!, this is alot better than the other games Hummer Team Did
Killing boss in the end am the 90s start
How many megs is this cart
i played this game almost 20 years ago in Micro genius not nintendo
12:28 Why is Jasmine with you and why are you a prince?
3:02 apple hit sound 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣🤣😂
Whoa, this was bootleg lol
It was a lot of fun, reasonable difficulty and fluent action.
Why don’t they make it for the PC engine/Turbografx 16 too
The hacked version is way better
Since when did Jasmine go to the cave of wonders? You know when she did in the movie? Never!
Me lo pasé a los 6 años
i remember this game 😂.. parachute with SELECT button...
This version is better than snes
bootleg game devs doing better than legit ones, smh
and speaking of which, the lion king had the same sort of situation, official NES version was crap, while the pirate one still had some rough edges, but was a lot better in comparison
Very hardest game to play
what does unlicensed mean? was the game sold? was it sold legally?
How to download this game plzz send me link
This was for people who couldn’t afford snes and for people who couldn’t afford genuine nes cartridges and even the console itself.
👍👍👍👍
i would call this a port instead of a demake. Or maybe a demaster
I like..jindgi pachpan me chali gayi....
Kaise downlode hogi ye game
Interessante

Sounds stolen from Sonic The Hedgehog for NES.
Sonic NES game , 😂🤣 you collect 100 rings and lose all ring only 2 rings coming from sonic
They actually made that port as well, to be fair.
