Power Wheels 18V Upgrade Milwaukee Battery (Easy Way!)

  • This is convenient if you've already got batteries from your power tools so there's not much cost at all for this method. You can also take the top off your Power Wheels battery and get the adapter that way if your ready to fully commit.
    Here is the adapter: www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01...
    The adaptor is not needed if you just want to wire directly into the battery. Just cut off the plug and connect an inline fuse holder (few dollars at ace hardware) and splice your male ends on. I would leave a little extra wire on the plug (and save it) so that you can wire nut it back in if you want to revert back to it in the future.
    You can use 30a or 40a fuses. I am currently running 40a in mine.
    Shout out to Rick for some ideas on this project

      My understanding is Milwaukee has low voltage cut off built into the batteries, unlike DeWalt that has it built into the tool.
      I've seen people saying the opposite on Reddit and believe that is incorrect.
      The problem you describe would only happen with DeWalt and what ever other manufacturers use tool only cut offs.
      You do jump out thermal protect, the fuse may help with over amping though.

    • @chriscars96
      @chriscars96 3 года назад

      The ah rating is simply the capacity. I.e how long it will run for.
      1ah would run 1 amp for 1 hour etc.
      If you use the 2 18v batteries in parallel (positive to positive. Negative to negative) it will give 18v but double the ah rating so 2 18v 4ah batteries in Parallel would give 18v 8ah
      I hope this helps you! Make sure you don't connect the 2 batteries in series as this will give 36v and likely ruin your fun 🙂

    They make a way easier way. That you cut off the old battery plug in. And put on a Milwaukee or dewalt or what brand you like. And then your battery plugs in just like on the tools. I just did it to my daughters. Took 1 min to cut and strip and connect. It was rolling. And you don’t have to worry about the battery coming undo from thos connectors you put on. • @timothyfischer5160
      @timothyfischer5160 3 года назад +1

      It's certainly rated for more that 12 volts because a fully charged lead acid that it comes with it is about 14v.
      12v (nominal) is just what comes with it, you would have to look into the specific motor specs to see what it is actually rated for.
      Remember you 18v battery at full charge is more like 20 volts.
      I would imagine either the higher voltage either arcs on the board or motor windings or it's fine. If you feed more volts I would imagine you would draw less amps and maybe less heat.
      Edit: Sure the will be motor life will be shortened to some degree as it is working harder/higher rpm. I think this may have to do with lower internal resistances on li-ion compared to lead acid.
      Correct me if I'm wrong

  • @tugainbristolgaming

    you might drain your milwaukee battery to 0V and kill it forever. recharging it wont work. the milwaukee tools are smart enough to know when to stop before draining the bat to 0v.

      You can jump it with another battery to get the voltage up slightly so that the charger will recognize it.

    Keep in mind the milwaukee batteries are 100.00 a piece. The motor is designed for 12 volts. It will take the 18 volts for a while and you may not have any problems but the con here is the possibility of the motor shorting and killing your battery.

      Yes and you can use large alligator clips and a $25 walmart lawnmower battery that lasts a couple hrs.

    I DID THIS AND I BURNED UP THE MOTOR IN ABOUT 10 MINUTES. DO NOT USE A DIFFERENT VOLTAGE BATTERY THAN THAN MOTOR ACCEPTS. HE SHOULD HAVE STAYED WITH A 12V.

      Get a voltage regulator and turn it down. Or replace the motor for a beefier one
