I hope those who see this vid heed your warning - I have a feeling it's going to get real bad, real fast. We just added 3 more acres to our little farmstead and have chicks in the incubator now. I have a few blueberry bushes and use pine needles as a mulch to raise the soil acidity for mine, but azalea plant food/fertilizer (Lowe's & Wmrt) will also do work as azaleas are acid loving flowers. All of my hives made it through winter so far, just have to get past this last cold snap that's coming in on Thr/Fri, but then after that we should be good to go. Hope you and your family stay safe and healthy and have a productive year.
Now that's a nice brooder. Beats the heck out of the big cardboard box I've used, and other less-than-ideal set-ups. And the paintjob makes it look nice as well as helping preserve the wood. Looks like you have a good helper there, is he looking forward to the babies coming? Never met a child that didn't like baby chicks, and I gotta admit those cute little bundles of fuzz melt my heart too. I share your concerns, Daryl. Already talked to my grown children and my Mom about getting ready because I don't think we've seen nothing yet. Anyway, am praying for our leaders to have wisdom, patience and discernment, put it in His hands. Thanks Daryl!
We are just in Autumn We planted last corn, some brown onions, carrots and radishes. Have pumpkins, potatoes, sweet potatoes, leeks, spinach. Soon start cabbages and zucchini. Summer lettuce gone to seed for next year. Strawberries doing well. Using honey from bees to purchase sheep for meat. Make my own sourdough bread. This is all normal for us as been doing it for 10 years. Still spend AUD$35 a week on groceries.
You can add a bathroom exhaust fan to it they are not expensive .i installed one on my quail pen years ago with a dryer exhaust vent on the outside . You can wire it on a timer or thermostat. Great job and hope it works out great.
Don't overdo it preparing for the worst. I'm 73 and have seen times when many thought all would fail. Looking back, I never went without what's needed to enjoy life. Gas prices will go up and down as well as inflation. 1968 seemed like it could never get better, but it did. The 1970s stagflation and unemployment problems worked themselves out. 9-11 brought us into conflicts again, but the result was no terrorist attacks today.
looks great good luck with the chicks
