*Vegans In The Middle Ages | The History of Veganism Part Two* Veganism’s about to get Medieval. The Middle Ages were also known as the Dark Ages, and with good reason…if you were vegan. So what exactly was the “vegan scene” of Medieval Times? Learn about the pushback from the early Christian Church, the Islamic Golden Age, and the spread of Buddhism, Confucianism & Taoism and their effect on vegans of the Middle Ages. For complete citations and further reading, see the blog post for this video: www.BiteSizeVegan.com/MedievalVeganism The time it took to produce this video was around 71 hours. X-ray Devil I'm more than aware of the dark web and do use Tor. I'm sorry you find my made up name insulting, but that's your problem not mine. And finally, although I really shouldn't feed the troll, humans are animals too.
Wow amazing! great work! and thanks for introducing me to an Arab who advocated veganism, because I'm an Arab and everyone around me is convinced that veganism is a western approach to life... now i have my comeback :)
ANOTHER VEGAN GEEK! I'm so happy and totally blown away by both your research and presentation. You took what many would consider an incredibly "dry" topic and made it enjoyable as well as informative. I'm gonna spring it on my "not such a history geek but still very vegan" daughter tomorrow and will let you know how it goes. Thank you for putting together this information for all of us in such an entertaining way. I'm off to peruse your other videos now...
We've been looking forward to watching this video for so long.... finally got the chance and loved it! Really fascinating stuff. Thanks for your research and effort Emily - priceless. And those bloopers!! haha >_
wow, i can't imagine how much research and time that took you. thank you for your work! this is an amazing project where i almost knew nothing before watching and now i do, thanks again.
I asked my mom why she'd never thought of going vegan as a child and she said "Veganism wasn't around when i was a child and it wouldn't have been possible". So i told my mom she looks very good for a 2500 year old woman
Llorrac TN vegans are so stupid or they make any excuse also they talking about using animal transportation as cruelty it's not really special in ancient times how the hell would they supposed to get to places they can't always walk especially if they're carrying lot of heavy loads especially when it comes to trades I swear to God vegans are so goddamn stupid
It was so hard to get any real information on veganism before internet. There was so much health scare mongering you would have had to be truly forward thinking to go vegan before internet.
@@Samiifemboy96 So because we didn't have cars it was okay to enslave other animals to carry us around or bear our burdens? Was it also okay to enslave humans back before we had the cotton gin and other mechanized farming equipment? How do you think the Mayans or Aztecs built their great civilizations with no draft animals (horses, donkeys, oxen, etc.)? You don't know what you're talking about.
I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR THIS SO LONG. GREAT JOB !!! Again, I admire your research and discipline. Thank you again, I wish i could donate but I'm too young :(
I continue to be impressed with the depth of your research. The effort required to put together such a comprehensive video series, as is this one, is the intellectual equivalent to power lifting for weight lifters - not easy. I consider myself to be a pretty well informed vegan, but I've learned tons watching this series. It is for me simply addictive.
This is my absolute favourite of all of your videos. The Cathars were a christian group that was annihilated by the Catholics which was vegan and also allowed women to become their high priests and what not. They believed in reincarnation and a lot of other really interesting things.
Damn Emily :| I don't believe how much commitment you have to creating your videos! Over 70 hours ! I adore you ! Thank you so much ! love you & this video. It's super funny how the american native pronounce such complicated names :D You do a great job !
Wow, you really did your homework on this one. That's a lot of information you have here and you did another great Job as usual, you are an amazing person Emily! (Miss Oobey though - sorry not sure how you spell it.)
Fantastic vid!! Beautifully presented too. I thoroughly enjoyed. I am surprised that it only took 71 hours. The amount of research you must have done plus collating it then presenting, it would have taken me weeks if not months. You are a true professional. Thanks.
Ajit Varsani thank you so very much. i basically do this and only this for all day every day right up till it launches. never sure if I'm going to make it!
I don't have time to watch this right now, but come evening, I'll be *all* over this video. I look forward to it a lot; part one was one of my favourite videos of yours, which is saying something.
Thisnis such a brilliant series with the best quality of info you must have worked extremely hard to put it together. I do find though that it's spoken so fast without pauses and with so much content that it's a bit of information overload. I'll have to watch these quite a few times to absorb the info. So interesting though thank you for such a brillaint sharing of knowledge
You do some awsome work!!!! Keep it up, it's such a positive channel for me, it gives me hope. And you explain things very well and you are very mature in your approach! Cant wait to see the video on descartes!
Loved it! I was vegetarian off and on since 1988 due to shame and embarrassment. Thanks to people like you I developed a conscience and became vegan in early 2015. It most certainly want be an off and on venture like vegetarianism.
Brilliant two videos; loved both. I know you couldn't fit everything in; but you missed out the Cathars and the Bogomils; two lutherian sects in the 11th to 13th centuries who were allmost completely vegan - did you knwo ofthese? Anyway I learnt a lot from these and foundit a great watch; well put togethor.
Sure, there were dark aspects of the dark ages, but never would I have guessed that there was also so many beacons of hope! Thank you for the amazing work behind this nugget-- which is more of an ingot, really-- and for your unending endeavor to make the world a better, more informed place :)
Thanks for the info! Love this one. I've started a series on Christianity and Veganism, going through every single passage of the bible that could pertain to this way of life. Thanks for the information way back when I was getting started on my journey. All the best!
I love this series on the history of veganism!! I showed it to my parents and grandparents and now they don't think I'm a heathen for being vegan anymore! Lol. But since this they have all refrained from dairy and all other meat besides fish. It's a BIG step for them and I'm so proud of them. :D (They're very religious so this was perfect to try to convince them.)
I just had to thank u for this video. Just a funny little story. I made two hard tries at Vegan a while back. But I felt very dizzy and had massive headaches. (I think it was to little dietary Fat) I am gearing up to give it another go. At my last attempt, I started noticing that birds and squirrels stopped running when I came out of my house. Then they started coming right up to me. Finally after days of this I would look at a squirrel and talk to it and say: "What??,..What do u guys want?" Then just walk to my car. But they didn't move. And birds would just hang out. My wife thought it was the funniest thing. She started calling me "The Squirrel Whisperer" and "Tippi Hedren". (Ha,.....Ha) I never connected the dots until now. Maybe there IS some truth to the Buddhist sayings about Animals Smelling Death on us meat eaters! Peace.
Great story! I definitely find that I need sufficient dietary fat (coconut oil and nuts and seeds) or I feel dizzy too; I think each person needs to see what dietary composition work best for them.
Excellent work my dear, I especially love the part about Abul of Syria (I won't even attempt the full name, lol). Wish I'd had teachers like you back in the day, school was so painfully boring, especially social studies. We need Vegan Studies in all school curricula everywhere. I look forward to the next time period. Maybe have your hair free flowing in some vids? Amazing how fast it grew after you had shaved your head. Yeah, I wandered way off topic, oh well ;)
Emily, your dedication is simply amazing! Thank you so much for the very informative and important videos. I always thought that humans need to reflect on history in order to enforce change and evolve, your work definitely helps with that.

Al-Ma'arri was so ahead of his time and sadly still is :/
Lilah Osb very true....he kicked ass.
